I didn't find it much overkill, for me, there is never too much sub power. ---------------- nice speakers and that is one hell uv a sub their. Thats quite a bit out of my range though. I like the rw 10 but im not sure if it hits pretty solid at 25 hertz where it counts. I cant seem to find any reviews on it.
  2. Ive been checking the subs out and i'am leaning towards the rw 10 model. I really like the rsw 10 but cant find any in my price range so far that is. I got to keep searching. I found the rw 10 for 330 bones. Do you guys no anywhere cheaper or the rsw 10 around this price (which i doubt). Thanks
  3. Thank guys youv'e been a real help. Money is a real concern with me, and size i really dont want a huge subwoofer in my room. I had one once and sent it back all i could do was look at it. I like the idea of sticking with klipsch because i like the speakers i have especially for rock concerts. Do you guys believe this i was talking with a velodyne rep and he said klipsch subs stunk. Then i was thinking why would it take a 15 velodyne to keep up with my speakers and it wouldnt take that of a klipsch go figure. I was looking at the rw-8 they look nice. Do you guys think that would be to small?
  4. I wanted to know what you guys thought about a good match up with my sf- 2 towers. I like velodyne subs the chts, but i dont know if a ten or twelve will work with the high sensitivity of the sf-2. Do you think for the money velodyne is the way to go or klipsch. a guy at velodyne told me a 15 incher at the minimal, But i was like damn thats not what i had in mind for my living room. He said usually 15 or 18 inchers for klipsches work well, but i dont think i could live with that size in my Living room. now if i had a special room just for it sure ill take two. Now if a bigger sub is required i would go with svs. So my main concern is would a ten velodyne work or twelve. I could live with that or any other brands for me to check out thank you. Its been awhile guys my computer got hit by lightning, and had to do the insurance thang and get a better computer
  5. I'm in the same boat i tried the onkyo 601. it was a pretty nice unit but did not keep up with my sony db 840. I was told that sony was junk but my sony walked all over that onkyo and ways quite a bit more than the onkyo. with those new onkyos you get awesome video switching. It seemed mayby a bit cleaner that my sony but its hard to tell because my sony has so much more balls and good bass. Another thing the onkyo you have to just about crank it to hear it. I did try and adjust the gain for each channel. When i cranked it it played louder quicker but it wasn't as clean as the sony then. That's my opinion i still havent found one myself i like my music loud. One last thing speaker placement is critical you can have the best stuff in the world but if that isn't on it is a waste. Make sure you measure your receiver to so it will fit where you want it. And if you want to wire some speaker outdoors make sure you get one with a and b mains. All in all the onkyo was a nice unit and had a good clean sound. I just like my music loud now.
  6. Ive been thinking to go with nad or outlaw but the outlaw doesnt have aor b main speakers. The denon seems like a no brainer for 200 dollars 80 watts per channel all channels driven seems to put the others in the dust for the price. I can get a nad t 761 for 500 dollars refurbished is this a good deal compared to the denon at 200 dollars (1603).Oh by the way i can't have 6.1 have to have 5.1 my room wouldnt work for that.

You get it cheap with no service or pay top dollar for great service. If i was going to spend alot for something i would want the good service. Mayby if i got something really cheap i would go with out the service. By the way soundcity is a certified klipsch dealer with a good return policy, and they have great prices so i guess they do meet you half way. I havent had anything break down on me yet from them. They told me if my klipsch took a dump i would have to have klipsch repair them. Hopefully they dont they just got broken in it took forever.
  8. thanks! One thing i need is a and b main speaker capability. Another receiver i found for my price range is a yamaha htr 5560. I got good reviews from a crutchfield advisor who owns one of the denons he said he couldnt say enough good things about them and he had really inefficient nht speakers. which would play a at painfull volumes. Which i like the sounds of that.Something about my klipsch they are making me listen to classical music on the radio. I noticed how awesome they are for stringed intruments i just catch my self caught up in some of the violin solos. Those klipsch are great for that and my rock music to. They dont have an artificial open sound for movies i noticed. At first i didnt know if i liked that butwhen it is meant to be open they are really wide open.
  9. with out a doubt the cheapest place to get them is soundcity. Go on the net find the absolute lowest price and they will beat it i got my sf-2 for 400 bucks a pair not to bad really that was awhile back to. I told them crazy eddies price they beat it with shipping. Ask for Rich hes a real nice guy. But you need to look around on the net to find a low price to prove it. I tried that with crazy eddie with soundcity price they said they couldnt beat it. They couldnt verify i was getting it that cheap.Thats because i had soundcity beat their price. I tried the old switch a rue back and forth till i got the right price. Dont ever pay what their asking for this my advise that i learned over the years.Been ripped off to many times on retail. The only place ever to pay retail is crutchfield because the service is worth the peace of mind i had speakers blow two years after i purchased them and they replaced them with new ones very impressed with them.
  10. Can anyone tell me if this receiver is worth the time or day. Because i can get this for peanuts. I really dont need anything more than 5.1 i just want it to sound good for music. Will it have warmth to it and is it the same quality amps in it as their other receivers. Which i dont really know i never heard a denon. I also can get a pioneer vsxd 912k new one pretty cheap. But i dont know if thats any good all i know is it is 110 watts per channel.
  11. yeah i want to know if anyone can tell me if vanpire wire s video cables are good for the money. At 20 or so dollars a cable. That is a meter in length
  12. I think i just may take the money i save on a new receiver and purchase a svs subwoofer iam not sure yet.
  13. I got my onkyo in and it sounds pretty good smooth top end and nice warm panning on the surround sound. It made my tv and dvd look awesome with that 50 mhz switching. But it just doesnt have the balls the sony does or clarity so i am packing it up and sticking with sony next receiver will be one of the es models. I didnt no what i had or appreciated it till it was gone. I really am going to miss the picture quality it had to offer and some of the warm sounds it has, but the es has 100 mhz switching and will have more oomph. Another thing is the onkyo weight was the same or less than my db sony and that is with an extra amp for 6.1. All and all it is a great receiver with a remote that will control everything and composite to s conversion i think i will put the money i save by sending it back on surrounds. I cant say anything bad about this receiver it is really good just not enough oomph enough said.
  14. fish, thanks for the complements on both amps i havent got the onkyo in yet tomorrow hopefully! Need to re tube my mesa just reloaded a pickup in my prs. I got two (good) habits that are expensive.
  15. disneys Atlantis (the lost empire) the movie. In the set up features it has thx setup for sound and picture. After using it to set up my picture on television it was wearth it even no the the movie isnt that great. But if you have kids it kills to birds with one stone. Picture quality is good because you set it up to thx standards.
  16. I got a 22 foot by 12 room with the entertainment center in the middle of the 22 foot wall with my couch in the middle against the opposite 22 foot wall. Should i put my surrounds on the side wall that are 12 foot long they would be alot further away than my mains because i sit about nine feet from them. Or should i put them were i have my surrounds now. Witch is on the same wall of my couch with two door ways on each side of my couch mounted above each door way. This would make them closer to me but i dont think they would be as spacious. I have had them both way but with way different speakers so iam not sure were to put my new klipsch surrounds when i get them. The way they are now is really accurate sound for dvd but you really cant her them on movies on regular tv. This may have to do with the little cambridge speakers i have. Please some one help because i dont want to put more holes in the wall if i dont have to,and especially if it is superior this way i have it now.
  17. Yeah what's wrong with the sf-2 they kick serious *** actually i almost stepped up to the reference series towers but the bass response was better with the sf-2's and the size was better for my room bounderies witch you dont want to over power your room or under power it. It just worked out better for me to get them, and i may prefer the aluminum tweeter over titanium. but thats my opion every one is entitled to one. I would like to check out the more expensive ones in my room to see how they would sound defenitely love the look of the copper woofers, and the different wood veneers on the cabinets
  18. Here is my opinion but i am no pro. Ive own a few subs and i found that front fireing subs are a little more musical and the down fireing just plain slam the floor which is great for movies like jurassic park i havent had a sub that truly rocks my house watching that movie unless it was a down fireing one. The only drawback is i dont think their that musical. Now i am talking about subs that are pretty economical so the expensive ones might perform the same. Because i did own a front fireing velodyne once and it came close to my down firing acoustic research. The velodyne was defenitely superior. But i tell you that acoustic research would feel like a truck ran into my house but the music was a little sloppy. I miss the ar for the fun factor in movies just shut the thing off for music and your good to go and its cheap.
  19. Wow now were talking John folgerty is awesome Tom Petty live at the filmore killer. Metallica cunning stunts super and pearl jam's touring band 2000 very cool. Another excellent one is Stevie Ray Vaughn live from Austin,Texas his leads just jump out at ya. Pink Floyd the wall is a good one. Megadeth rude awakening , If your into some heavy stuff check out overkill wrecking everything that sucker is dts and it is awesome clarity and totally rips your head off.I never truly experienced dts untill i watched that now i know their is a difference.
  20. I totally agree buy the best speakers in the world. I mean save and save and save because you will never be happy untill you get good speakers and you lose out so much money trying to sell your new speakers to friends. Its really worth the wait. If i was to start over again i would of just bought super cheap descent bookshelf speakers then bought the top of the line klipsch later or what ever you prefer. Some speakers just sound better in different rooms
  21. Yeah i just ordered the new onkyo 601 can't wait till it comes in. Ordered it today and they said it might arrive tommorrow thats quick. It had everythig i was looking for not to many bells and whistles but enough because i like some. I went for that because of the high current capability. I emailed klipsch and they told me what to look for in an amp they didn't recommend any specific brand but they said look for an amplifier that will play at a lower ohm with signifigant increase in watts tells wether it can handle good peaks. The onkyo does just that i think its rated at 225 dynamic at 3ohms. But anyhow i will let you all know how it sounds. And by the way anybody check out the new metallica video filmed at san quentin killer. Yeah buy the way Fish i have the mesa/boogie dual calibber dc-5 fifty watt all tube head with a recto vertal 2by12 cab with custum ninetys in it. Im thinking about changing to the vintage thirties but i kind of like the bottom end of the ninetys. Tubes all the way for guitar for sure nothing captures your emotions like tubes do. Check you later
  22. Its either denon, onkyo or harman kardon for me i guess.Probally look for some refurbished unless i get the new onkyo 601
  23. so you think it has good build quality and sound. Its sussposed to have dts, dd ,dprolic2, 5.1. I guess its 80 watts by five but i am not sure if its all channels driven. The specs say its high current it has the a and b speaker hook up iam looking for and the price is excellent. It is refurbished but that means it probally wont break down for awhile. At least you know it will be ready to go. Think for your imput dude
  24. i guess the denon avr 683 is acient. It does have what i want but i dont no if its good quality because i couldnt find it on the denon web site. Its being sold through a denon auhtorized dealer refurbished. It has the dd dts dprolog2 a and b speakers 80 by 5 high current i guess. Its 5.1 which i want because i dont have room for the sixth speaker it just would sound right anyway because my couch is against the wall.
