  1. I finally got my hands on Pink Floyd's Pulse DVD concert. You have to buy this from overseas and it is somewhat expensive but worth it. If anyone is interested in the VCD version of this, I can let mine go since I have the DVD. This is simply one of the best rock performances on DVD I have ever seen, if not the best...
  2. Does no one remember or ever use rec.audio.marketplace on usenet? That was THE source to find used audio equipment prior to ebay (and it is still in use today although not as good as it used to be). I bought and sold many items there with good results and it was absolutely free! Maybe I am naive, but I tend to feel that most in our hobby are passionate about it and are usually good people to deal with. I wish ebay had some tougher competition. Would keep fees down and service up if they did. Just my thoughts... Regards, Dave
  3. I know the Heresy is a classic and all, but frankly I thought the Quartet was a much better sounding speaker when I owned both and listened to them side by side. The Quartet was more detailed, projected a better soundstage and was just a better speaker. I guess I have no overriding bias that tells me a heritage speaker 'has' to be better. In the final analysis, you have to trust your own ears. I currently own the Chorus IIs and RF-7s and enjoy both. Each has it's own strengths and does some things better than the other. Just as there is no best or perfect speaker; just trade offs you decide you can live with...
  4. ---------------- Today I became the proud parent of a tube of toothpaste, a toilet cleaning brush and a spankin' new one pound bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee. ---------------- Congrats on the additions to your family!! Does the brush look like it's father?
  5. Well, I couldnt' decide between the two so ended up with both. Haven't decided which to keep in the main system and which to relegate to a second system as both sound nice and have different attributes. I was surprised by the high build quality of the RF-7s (mine are in Cherry wood and finished on all sides, looks very nice). I will be using tube amps for 2 channel listening with the RF-7s and Chorus (Scott 299B and Cayin TA-30). In preliminary listening it seems like the Cayin mates better with the RFs and the Scott with the Chorus. I'm thinking it is because the Scott warms up the horn mid of the Chorus while the Cayin matches the analytical sound of the RFs. The RFs seem a bit heavier (taller and deeper) while the Chorus is wider. For those who haven't had any extended listening to the RF-7s, I highly recommend it. I discounted these for a long time as I really had issues with it not having a horn mid. However is it very accurate and projects a very good soundstage and depth. I understand a few are upgrading the crossovers in these and that might be a logical next step to realize their full potential. Oh well, back to the music..Sarah Brightman is in the other room and seems to be calling me....
  6. I got a great deal from fellow Forum member, AVMan in New Orleans. Was a long drive, but well worth it. They look and sound great! ---------------- On 4/26/2004 9:52:17 AM Georg F. Handel wrote: Texas42, Where did you end up getting your RF-7's? ----------------
  7. The 9090 is a nice vintage sansui receiver model circa 1980 or 1981. Not a bad tuner section or amp section. A lot of people prefer vintage japanese stuff from that era. If you ever decide you want to get rid of it, let me know. Until then, enjoy!
  8. Well, I guess this is something I really need to look into as i just purchased a pair of new RF-7 (in gorgeous cherry) and a pair of Chorus II's this weekend. Need to get comfortable with their stock sound first though to see what I feel is missing or needs improved. What a great hobby...!
  9. Well, I may not be the closest but Spring is about a 3 hour drive. I might just have to make it though, just for curiosity sake. Hopefully, they have an audition room so I can put them through their paces. Could be interesting...
  10. Adcom is a line of solid, well built amps and preamps and in the same class as Rotel, B&K, NAD, etc... Well engineered, well designed and should last you a very long time. Having said that, they can be a little 'agressive' with horns but should give you solid bass if a little bright on the top end. Just my two cents...
  11. I contacted one about an hour away and they said the absolute lowest they would go is $1600 plus tax. Wish your salesman was here... ---------------- On 4/18/2004 1:17:28 PM bchild311 wrote: Is there an Ultimate Electronics store near you? I purchased mine through them, they're an authorized Klipsch dealer, and was able to get them for 1400 plus tax. They were delivered flawlessly and have absolutely no blemishes whatsoever. Just my 2 cents involving my RF-7 purchase. ----------------
  12. I've never had a problem paying a 'fair price'. But when the dealer is trying to get $2200 + 8% sales tax ($2376) for them without bending I figure it is time to look elsewhere...
  13. Do you have a store name, real name or contact number? I'd be worth the drive to me if the price is right. Thanks...!
  14. I've been contemplating a purchase of these versus a Heritage pair of Chorus. Unfortunately, the dealer in my area wants full markup. Are their any internet dealers that would offer a more 'competitive' price? I would also consider a nice used or demo pair. Any ideas/thoughts appreciated. I already have the RC-7.
  15. Everyone is still dealing with semantics...As probably the first person in this forum to buy the TA-30, I can attest it is an extremly nice sounding amp for the money and can compete with with the ASLs and Jolidas for even less money. I've never had the desire to pull tubes to run it single ended as it sounds great the way it is. And isn't great sound the bottom line?
  16. Yeah, I'm sure most 'thieves' would defend their illgotten gain with their lives, eh? I guess it all depends on which eyeglass you chose to look through... I always wondered why those guys who died there are called the defenders of freedom. They weren't fighting for freedom from any oppressors--they were just stealing the land from the Mexicans (who stole it themselves) and paid the price. Shrine of Texas Liberty my ***! ----------------
  17. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=3090692890&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW I notice these sold. I hope there wasn't anyone on this board who bought these. I drove almost three hours in storm conditions to buy them a couple of weeks ago and they were/are a mess. The "three tiny holes which can't be seen" were rather large and the woofer will need to be replaced. Both passive radiators are in sad shape as well and will have to be replaced. The 'tiny scratches' were actually gouges (some of which will have to be filled). They will need to be refinished. Lastly, as he was taking them out of his car to put in my van, the riser base on one of them came off in his hand! I quickly passed on these and told him, thanks, but no thanks! Then, he got pissed at me! They were completely misrepresented and I feel sorry for the guy who ends up with these... Buyer beware
  18. After watching the movie, I just had to go drive by it again, for 'ol time sakes. Still looks kind of strange in the middle of downtown San Antonio surrounded by buildings and vendors. But, for every true Texan, it is our "mecca". Looking forward to it coming out on DVD.
  19. Surround speakers are not as critical (as mains and a center) as long as the levels are set the same as your front speakers. If your preamp or receiver doesn't have the capability to automatically set them, pick up a SPL Meter at Radio Shack (costs about $30) and adjust the levels manually. Enjoy!
  20. Anyone have a guide to show what year these serial numbers correspond to? They are Chorus IIs, #s 053492950 and 51. Thanks...
