  1. I use winamp 5 previous versions of winamp were not the best for organization but I think winamp 5, easily lets you organize things, i have 1200 songs and never have problem finding one or an artist. Very easy to use program too
  2. I was hoping around $50 My TV definately can't handl 1600 res :-p but I see what your saying. So since no one has brought it up, I guess that adapter for HDTV's from ATI is a bad idea?
  3. The problem is I could get one of those but then, it still needs to get across the room to my TV. That is why I thought the component out of the DVI would work.
  4. The specialized HDTV input has Red, Green, Blue, Horizontal, and Vertical (5 cables)
  5. My TV has Component, S-video, and standard RCA connector. Also a special DTV input, which seems to be component with two extra cables a Horizontal and Verticle cable. I also have a Denon 3803 I could plug it into.... but it also only has Component, S-video, and standard RCA connector.
  6. hehe, I know about the CPU.... just tried to make the title short and sweet Also, the Processor which sits on the motherboard consists of a CPU(Central Processing Unit) and a ALU(Arithmetic Logic Unit).... sorry 3 years and $40,000 worth of loans had to be worth something. :-( Also, My TV, doesn't have DVI, so thats not an option. The run has to be about 10-12 feet
  7. Wasn't sure where to post this.... but the Home Audio Section has always been good to me :-) Anyways, I went through a post a little while ago and got my audio to go from my computer to my Home Theater.... Its so cool :-p So now I want to do the Video, I tried the whole S-Video Cable.... dissapointed. So, I started looking around and found this http://buy.ati.com/shopati/product.asp?category=AA∂%5Fno=HDTV+DVI%2DI+US&find%5Fcategory=AA&find%5Fdescription=Accessories&find%5Fpart%5Fdesc=&country=USA Has anyone ever tried one... I want one but im not sure its worth $40 if it sucks. Anyone thing its worth it. BTW, I have a decent Video Card I am upgrading in a few months to probably a Radeon 9800Pro should be reltively cheap since ATI just announced their new ones. I am also using a Mitsubishi Widescreen HDTV(model number in my info). 1080i and 480p. Any suggestions or comments about this little connector, or any other ideas.
  8. ---------------- On 5/4/2004 8:44:19 AM Colin wrote: look at your Task manager and see what is using up the CPU processes and the RAM. Also make sure you are shutting down at least weekly, if NOT nightly to clear all sub-routines out of RAM. ---------------- Great Idea, should have thought of it myself. However, I can't remember how to do that on a 98 system :-/ sorry, its been a while. But, with 768 ram he shouldn't have to shut down nightly. I leave my comp on and only restart when I notice slowdowns or weekly is pretty good. I play games that I notice memory leaks and I still don't bother shutting down nightly, afterall leaving a system on 24/7 is much better for it than shutting down everynight.
  9. If it is a "memory hole", or as I learned it in school "memory leak". It isn't in your OS or your main software however, there have been many many cases where video games have memory leaks. So it is very possible that a a program your running has one.... although over an hour increasing to 700 megs is an INSANE leak.... So I doubt that is the problem. I would make sure you have very few programs loading at boot up. Only the necessary ones for windows and maybe 1-3 that you use constantly. If you do not know how to do that I am sure I can tell you or find a website or others on the board could help you.... But, I have to run to Numerical Methods Class :-( Oh, and many many people recommend formatting the hard drive once a year to clean up a lot of the crude that gets on your hard drive. Registry information, files that don't get deleted on uninstalls, temp files. Whatever it may be. I usually say 2-3 years just cause for the average user its a pain in the **** to backup/reformat :-)
  10. I didn't get a chance to read all the posts... in a rush (sorry for that) I understand the whole compairing directional vs wide surround field.... HOWEVER, I don't feel its fair to compare a RB-75 to a RS-7, afterall, the price difference is about triple for a pair. Again, I understand that directional may sound better than the wide surround field, infact I have wondered if buying my RS-7's was a mistake, and what speakers I am going to buy when I upgrade to 7.1 or 6.1.... whenever I decide to do that.
  11. Just got back from radio shack. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU :-) thanks for all your help guys, i guess you figured out it worked :-) funny thing is I printed out that link you sent me jfmacken, and the guy at radio shack was like i will sell this to you but I don't think its going to work. LOL thanks everyone for you help
  12. thanks :-) I will go buy one in the morning Since, the coaxial cable is a monster cable I guess a gold connector won't hurt :-) Thanks!!! again for all the help
  13. ok, I went to radioshack... the guy had no clue what i was talking about and sold me this http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=274-378 doesn't work, so I have to take that back. Aslo dgb, wish mine could be that easy :-( all I have is the 3.5mm hookups in the back, I have no front plate :-( So, did I get the right thing and it is not working or did i get the wrong adapter. If so can you look up one on radioshack.com and show it to me?
  14. OK, so I just use a regular RCA Y splitter and plugging that into a regular RCA Red/White input on my reciever will be equivalent to 5.1 or if a program uses Dolby Digital it will be equivalent to that? Again, I am sorry just not grasping this.... My previous knowledge was RCA Red/White = Stereo(left+right speaker) Coaxial or Optical = Digital (surround sound)
  15. Wow, so is it an actual cable that is 3.5mm on one end and (coaxial or optical) on the other? Or does my reciever have to accept a special kind of input? I have a Denon3803, only inputs I have is standard stereo RCA, Coaxial and Optical. BTW, Thanks everyone for your help. I am sure I made this way more complicated than I had to but I have been looking up information on it for at least 5 hours. So I just wanted to say thanks a whole lot I definately owe you guys :-)
  16. Wait wait.... so option #1 is not in surround sound thats just purely mono? Also will option #2 end up being equivalent or close to dolby digital?
  17. Can you help me find a cable that goes with the first option.... I am flipping through my parts express magazine like crazy, dunno what im looking for :-)
  18. I am reading the manual for my sound card.... and it has a couple choices.... Not sure I understand any of them so I am going to post a link and explain them Please help http://files.americas.creative.com/manualdn/Manuals/790/English.pdf pg 18-20 First option: Use digital Out(3.5mm), and connect to a Dolby Digital(AC-3) SPDIF In using a a 3.5mm(mono) to RCA cable I have never heard of a cable that goes from a 3.5mm to a Coaxial Second Option: Use 3 sets of 3.5mm(stereo) to RCA cables Simply connect 3 3.5mm stereo cables to 6 stereo inputs Now, How would I connect this to my Denon 3803, would I use the EXT.IN or what?
  19. See... now I am mad, I was hoping that since I had a 5.1 sound card and a 6.1 Soundcard on the motherboard... I wouldn't have to buy a soundcard, cause now that I look at it, my soundcard is still worth $50. If I wanted to get the cheapest audigy 2 Soundcard it was $130 on Compusa. I was hoping to do this for the cost of a cable... or less.
  20. What is a toslink cable? Is that different than a digital optical cable?
  21. $50 is not bad at all The problem is I have no clue what kind of soundcard to get, my current computer speakers require a Digital out (not coaxial just a little 3.5mm). So I need to find a soundcard with a 3.5mm digital out, and a Coaxial digital out.
  22. Hey, Sorry, I wasn't sure where I should have posted this.... I was going to post it in the Sound Card section but seems like no one ever reads that. I have been having some major problems trying to hook up my Computer to My Reciever. I am pretty sure I need a SPDIF out, to hook up to a Coaxial cable. But with my soundcard "Creative SoundBlaster 5.1 Live!" It doesn't have one, just has the little 3.5mm hookups. Not sure I understand how a sound card can be 5.1 and not support Dolby Digital or can it just not output it to another source. Anyways, I found a connector from my Motherboards sound card that has a SPDIF connector, I can't find anywhere in the manual that it supports Dolby Digital however. It is a "C-Media 6-Channel Integrated Audio" on a Asus A7N266 nForce 420 Chipset(Motherboard). Any ideas... on what will work?
  23. Great Ideas, I definately don't feel comfortable taking apart my klipsch but maybe I can use a cheap speaker. Also, I would love to do the subwoofer one.... but im not sure carrying my subwoofer, up and down the stairs is a good idea since it weights almost 90 pounds :-/ Otherwise that would be my #1 choice
  24. Just cause a DVD says Dolby Digital does not mean its 5.1, could be 2.0, but in general most of the time it is 5.1. In fact just because it says Dolby Digital doesn't even mean its Dolby digital, could be Pro-Logic.
  25. I have to conduct some kind of experiment in statistics, its very open I just need to collect data. I am going to buy a SPL meter this week and was wondering if anyone had an idea for an experiment with klipsch. Maybe, how the SPL meter changes as I move it closer, or how deep bass gets in explosions in certain movies.... I am not sure because I don't know anything about a SPL meter. If anyone has an idea for a experiment I could do please help me :-) doesn't have to use a SPL meter... but I figured it would be best way to get actual numbers. Surveys of how people like my set-up are out :-/ its a calculus based class so it has to be slightly complex Thanks for the ideas in advanced
