  1. Excellent. I ran across something, perhaps in my HK manual that said speakers of this type needed to face one way or the other. I didn't mean to buy them so soon, it was a moment of weakness. "Hello, my name is Damon and I'm a Klipschaholic" "Hello Damon"
  2. What movies have the (new?) THX optimizer on it? I have Highlander with the THX Optimizer but the only audio test is to play test tones through all channels. Did I miss something?
  3. HD but not 1080i/720p would work. Whats this about a new model coming out?
  4. I accidently bought a pair of RS-7s tonight. Are the RS-X surround receivers directional? By this I mean is one of the horns meant to point towards the front of the room? Thanks.
  5. Its wired up. At first it overpowered the rest of my system but I've finally got it calibrated. I have to take care of my sick daughter tonight so I'll post pics and impressions either very late or tomorrow. So far, the scene at the beginning of Lord of the Rings where Sauron explodes is my favorite bass. Wow!
  6. Somewhere, there are people who think I'm clever and funny. I swear it!
  7. I'm with Dome. I bought the Promedia 4.1 system which led me into the world of Klipsch reference-series home theater. I have been poor ever since.
  8. Given that I bought my entire system this year and paid cash, it will be a while before I upgrade to RF-7s And the big tv and separate amp/prepro what fun would any hobby be if you could ever be "done" ?
  9. 1957 is not nearly far enough back. The machines should create a dinosaur like terminator called the Terminosaurus back in time to find the bit of primordial jelly that the first humans evolved out of and drink it so that humans never existed. The humans will then send Charlton Heston and Chris Rock back in time to stop the Terminosaurus. At the movie's climax the machines suddenly realize that if humans never existed than neither would they, and the Terminosaurus repents and adopts a live-and-let-live ideology that would forever alter the course of Time Travel filmmaking. The film closes with Chris Rock riding the Terminosaurus into the sunset with them singing a broken duet of "Unchained Melody"
  10. Even though I measured I wasn't prepared for how big it looks in person. Yes, everyone at work now assumes I must be vastly overpaid to be able to afford all this. The owner knows its not true though and he can't wait come watch LOTR on the system.
  11. Good point on using the DVD test tones, you are getting more of an end-to-end test then. As far as the microphone on the remote, mine does that and I've seen several others and I don't think its likely to be as accurate as an SPL meter. Looking at my remote, it looks like the feature was added as an afterthought. Also, be sure the feature you are talking about balances output levels, I think mine only calculates delays.
  12. I had it delivered to work. I'm feeling very sick all the sudden. I'll post pics and impressions tonight.
  13. OK, I found a buyer for my current TV which should enable me to make an upgrade. Looking for suggestions for a television. My criteria: -36" -Must be capable of 480p, but not necessarily be HD. There is a Wega model that can do 480p but not HD at about a $1100 price point for 36" If I don't learn something new today thats what I'll get. I'd rather not spend the $$$ for a full HD.
  14. Next week is probably best all around. Today should be the day for the SVS.
  15. I would say don't go with the RC-7, there have been a couple of articles posted about "rear-center" channel stuff. Given your current gear another pair of RB-5IIs is what I would buy if it were me. The RS-X series is an entirely different type of speaker (dipole) so my pulled-from-you-know-where guess is it might sound funky. The only reason I'd go with rs-7s is if it figures into some future upgrade path you have planned.
  16. Here you go arthus, as promised: http://www.damononline.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=8&page=1 Comments welcome.
  17. There are probably great how-tos out there, but I will write up a basic run down and post it on my site.
  18. And they are for _everyone_ I'm actually going over to a friend's house to calibrate his HTIB with it.
  19. Honestly I've heard many people say they prefer the analog, though for what reason I couldn't say. The SVS manual called for the analog so thats what I got.
  20. I'm relatively new to this, and picked up the analog Radio Shack SPL meter (part # 33-2050) last night as suggested by the manual for my SVS. I had previously sighted everything in with a laser pointer (this one: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/5a47/) but something didn't sound quite right. Upon inspection my center channel was coming up 4 decibels short of the fronts and my left surround was measuring 3 decibels higher than my right surround. I can only assume I need a bigger center channel and less-funky room accousics. Anyway it sounds very, very different now. SPL meters are not just for people with $30,000 worth of gear: go buy one.
  21. Curtains only absorb sounds within certain frequency ranges. Check out SoundBusters and other room treatments
  22. My favorite performance is as Hunter S. Thompson in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" that's off-beat
  23. I bought the SVS pci 20-39. It should be shipping today
  24. Hello all! I've met a couple of you already. I'm getting my SVS this week and I wouldn't mind having some Klipsch people over. I'm not expecting to blow any of you away; what I'd really like is to demo some material and get input as to anything I can do as far as room placement or anything to help the sound a bit. To say that my living room is not ideal is a bit of an understatement. Maybe we could get together next week?
