  1. I am currently using a Classe CAV-180 w/Bryston SP1.7. It is a good 5-channel amp. I don't mean to be disrespectful but I think it needs a better speaker than Klipschs'.
  2. The 999ES video quality was great to begin. With the additional powersupply upgrades, the DVD picture is much cleaner. I have seen details that I have not seen before. SACD playback was also much better with the Burr Brown chips upgrade. You have to spend $2000 on up to get this kind of quailty. The unit will show the quality of DVD video you feed into it. "Junk in" "Junk out". Levi
  3. Hi Piranha, I recently upgraded the speakers to a Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home. The speaker wires are Monster MCX 2s. Hi Mark, The turn-around time is reasonable @3-4weeks depends on the level of performance you like. I think, the price for the admission is in the affordable range. Thanks, Levi
  4. As expected, the quality of the mod is excellent. Dan did an excellent job with my Sony 999es. His attention to fine details are evident here. The external powersupply is a neat idea. A transformer mounted on a black box with an XLR connector that attaches to the back of the unit. The supplied XLR cord is long enough to put the powersupply away from the source. Nice. The 999ES has 2 small tubes sticking out of the chassis is an indication that something different about this unit (see picture). The gold plated Modwright plates on top is a nice touch that I did not find in the previous basic truth mod. I really liked the tubes sticking out glowing in the dim light so let's assume that the sound will be as good as it looks! Out of the box: I listened to Suzzane Vega Retrospective album and by track 4, the tubes have warmed up. They are now are in full swing. The vocals started to sound natural as if she was in my living room! Then the wife wanted to watch movies so the 2ch session ended. So far so good. closer look I need a vacation!
  5. Hi there, I will be selling my KG 5.5 w/Hovland MusicCaps upgrade soon! It will be in the low 400s. Pickup only in the 11372 Zip or I can bring it to you if you live within 1hr. Thanks, Levi Here is the picture of the upgraded x-over v.s. stock.
  6. Hmmm...I thought I saw your speakers in their website. You can upgrade your x-over components by replacing the parts with high quality parts like I did. Happy Holidays!
  7. Yes. I will tell you later. I have not seen a KG5.5 filter upgrade until I had the time and courage to open mine. I then took the original components values and replaced them with better parts minus the protection circuit. Silver wire costs $$$ so I used an .99% oxygen free flat copper wire. Check www.alkeng.com Here is your future x-over. ---------------- On 12/19/2003 3:30:38 AM Jitze wrote: I would just use a pure copper wire, such as Monster OMC or a Kimber wire, never a silvercoated wire, this will make the sound of the mids and highs somewhat raw. Anybody upgraded a Heresy II filter ? ----------------
  8. Thank you. The x-over upgrade is worth looking into.
  9. Yes. The x-over upgrade is worth looking into.
  10. Hmmm... that sounds like a good idea. The Hovland MusicCaps are very popular amongst the reputable modshops and tweakers like MusicalConcepts, ModWright, DIYCable, Percy Audio and ALK Engineering just to name a few. Below is a picture of my KG5.5 and below that, ALK crossover. ALK Crossover http://www.alkeng.com/
  11. Here is the picture of my modified x-over vs the stock. I posted this on the other threads.

  15. The KV-3 center channel would be the best match for the KG 5.5 since it uses polymer dome tweeters. The KV-4 tweeter(aluminium diaphram) looks similar to KG 5.5. KLFC-7 seems to have the same tweeter compression drivers but with 2x8" woofs.
