  1. Has anyone else noticed that Klipsch doesn't mention anything about the Heritage Series? Does this mean that they will be discontinued?
  2. Hi Snail's pace, Have you considered building a new cabinet? I have built a few for KLF 10's and KG 5.5's and it is not that difficult. As long as you cut your sheet goods square it is pretty easy. If you build 1 out of MDF it is pretty cheap also. You may also be able to buy cabinet grade plywood at a hardwood lumber yard and pay just a little extra to have the sheet cut to spec and be set. I have used both Mdf and plywood and have been satisfied with both. Q.

  4. I have found that Rhino compilations tend to sound very harsh, specifically the Alice Cooper 4 disc set and the Todd Rundgren best of disc. Q.

  6. I think they are very good speakers. I had a pair and they sounded very good with a yamaha receiver. I think that they were discontinued when the Synergy line was introduced. I sold my pair for $400.00 on ebay. I have seen other people get up to $500.00. If they are in good condition they are easily worth $450.00 in my opinion. Good luck. Q.
  7. I have a AVC-2500u that I use with an Adcom GFA-7000 power amp and KLF 20's. The 2500u is great. Dead quiet plenty of ins and outs. In 2 channel it sounds great and the suround sound is very impressive as well. The auto calibration feature is pretty cool and easy also. If you are into 6.1 or 7.1 surround you would have to get an out board decoder. I have no experience with the Sunfire equipment and doubt I will as much as I like my 2500u. I also can't comment on Parasound amps but I imagine that there as least as good as anything in the same price range. Also if you have any problems with the equipment Parasound will make it right. The customer service I have received from them is the best I have ever experienced. Hope this is of some use for you. Good luck. Q.
  8. I have been using Pioneer Elite 301 CD changers as transports for quite awhile. I use the DAC in my pre/pro with fairly good results. The only other CD player that I can compare it to is a Marantz 63se single disc player. I could tell no difference between the two as far as sound quality went. I understand that the Marantz isn't a true high end CD player but it was pretty good. I guess my point would be that I haven't felt that I am missing anything by using the mega changer. Actually the Pioneer sounds pretty good using its built in DAC also. Q.
  9. I replaced a set of 5.5's with KLF 20's in January. The biggest difference that I found was batter clarity on vocals. The 20's were much better at producing voices, male or female than my 5.5's. With movies it doesn't seem to be that big of a difference since the center is taking care of most of the dialog. On music however the difference was very obvious. As far as the center to use the 20, 5.5, and C7 all share the same tweeter diaphragm so it would seem that the C7 would be the best choice. I used a C7 with both the 5.5's and the 20's and was very hapy until I built my 5.5 center. Now I am even happier. Q.
  10. I can't offer any info on B&K but I do have some experience using a Yamaha receiver as a preamp. If you intend to do this you may find a lot of noise at low to moderate volumes. I had a RX-V692 when I bought my Adcom GFA-7000. I used the yamaha as a preamp for about a week and then had to buy a seperate preamp. There was a definate improvment in the overall sound quality but that noise was bad. When I hooked up a Marantz Pre/Pro no noise and I was very happy for a little while. Hopefully your receiver won't have this problem. Q.
  11. I have a Sony MZ-R50 walkman player/recorder. I think it is pretty neat. Mine will record off of satelite. What I really like about it is that it can be used to make live recordings if you have a mic. If you have a decent sound editing program on the PC you can end up with a fairly decent disc. Q.
  12. There is a prety good discussion on the merits of THX going at the AVS forum. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/004871.html Q.
  13. I have to admit that I would have never considered taking these speakers apart while they were intact. Fortunately for me UPS was kind enough to ruin them so I had nothing to loose. I doubt that I will be rummaging around inside my KLF-20's anytime real soon. On the otherhand, I did have a lot of fun making this pair into a couple of center channel speakers. Q.
  14. My AVC-1800 produced a considerable amount of noise at low volume in the left and right main speakers. I tried everything from line conitioners to using different circuits in the house and could not get rid of it. The signal sensing delay was bothersome but I could have lived with it. I also had a popping noise everytime I changed CD's, changed channels on the dish, or on the menu changes of a DVD. When changing from surround to 2 channel I sometimes had to adjust the volume control to get any sound. The remote is horrible compared to the Marantz RC 2000 MKII that I was used to. On the other hand when I took the unit to the dealer and hooked it up there it sounded great. None of the above listed problems seemed to be there. If you get 1 make sure your dealer will take it back if you have any of the problems I lsted. My dealer wasn't the easiest to work with but Parasound is very easy to deal with. To sum it up I think the preamp can sound very good considering cost, but it can be paticular about the equipment it is associated with. the Marantz AV 560 should also be pretty good. I have a 550 wich does not have DTS or 96Khz/24bit DAC, but it still sounds pretty good. Let me know if you need any more info. Q.
  15. When I used 5.5 mains I had both the KV3 and a KLF-C7. I liked the C7 best. Q.
