  1. The art clean box I am finding needs modified to get to low fequencies. Ughhh, I need to find these caps asnd Radio shack doesnt have them. The ones I saw look more like crossover caps. Please see this link for mod then the second one for the testing. Let me know what you think http://www.subwoofer-builder.com/cleanbox/cleanbox.htm http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/diy-subwoofers/5310-art-cleanbox-mod-thread.html Would Parts Express have these if so what would be the item #
  2. Yes that is what I have. The art box. I also have the RCA to 1/4". At 1st I did not have enough gain but now I do. Also, I do have an SPL meter but I was thinking maybe more like a Behringer mic set up and some form of software. I also read where someone has a unit for 350.00 that will EQ your room and set up subs. Any idea on placement and should one sub be set 1st then the other or should both be placed at the listening position and the Sub woofer crwl begin??
  3. I have a pair of KG 5.5's close but not the same and I hooked them up to an older McIntosh amp and man do these things crank out the bass.
  4. Yeah Boomzilla, how hard can it be to hook up a few cables?[*-)]
  5. So you are saying that higher powered McIntosh gear does not sound good? If so I have a MC2300 that would beg to differ! More "good" power can never hurt and power is not a bad thing. Comparing separates to any AVR I have heard, well just no comparison.
  6. I have a pair of SVS ss 16-46 passive subs and I am driving them with a behringer EP4000 pro amp. I am using my DENON 4800 as a pre amp and sending the LFE signal to a clean box then to amp. How can I get the best out of these subs? Since I have no EQ will the LFE signal handle this? Any reccomendations on placement etc.?
  7. Ok I just ordered one. I was going to buy a Emotive preamp from Joe Sporter but just could not swing multiple purchases and this fits my budget. I will post pics of the build.
  8. I was thinking this but I have never heard one http://www.transcendentsound.com/preampkit.htm Any thoughts or suggestions?
  9. Dynamite sub for the money would be IMO - SVS or velodyne. There is a fella named the ear on this forum that is just "THE STUFF" when it comes to knowledge about subs. PM him and ask for his advice.
  10. '"o need to PM you as I have owned them all also". That part of my post was for the original poster. [] If he felt so inclined. "Altec Fans don't add Klipsch Drivers because they throw them out and Replace them with Khorns. LOL !" Well I am an Altec fan and I own both so, I feel I have the best of both worlds. BTW, I also run a 511 on top of my Khorns.
  11. Yep, owned a pair in ONKEN mahogany Cabinets. Stunning! These are not mine but they give you an idea.....
  12. Hmmm, funny to say no match but you have taken a Stock Klipch product and added Altec Horns. LOL.I am a fan of both and both have strengths and weaknesses. I OWN BOTH so PM me as the Klipsch crowd is kind of bias,.... however, one thing you will never see, is an ALTEC fan adding Klipsch drivers or horns. You want to talk no comparison, compare Driver for Driver. Too funny! I have owned KLIPSCH: Belles, Khorn, RF7, KSP 400, RF3 Lascalla auditioned Cronwalls Owned Altec 604 Onkens, Model 19's Cut-Throat at least we have Fly fishing to agree upon
  13. I have always used my RF-3s with a Subwoofer and now have them as my side surrounds along with 2 RSW subs and they sound excellent with my RF-7s/RC-7 for Multichannel Music and Movies. Then I guess we are in agreement. I used the RF3 as rear in a 7.1 setup with a SVS cylinder sub. NOt long after I sold them and replaced them with KG5.5 in the rear. I do have to say that more power was a step up but it they are what they are. You have got to move AIR to get good bass and those 2 woofers just can't push that much. Get the RF7 and give them some power and whoooo hooo look out!
  14. I had a pair of RF3's and I was never impressed with the bass in comparison to other speakers. They are about as low as you can go in the RF line-up. I was also driving them with about 150 - 200 watts each. Not that the bass was bad it was tight but not room filling. In the end when compared to other speakers they just fell short. SOLD THEM for 350.00 if I remember correct.
  15. Don't forget the coolaid Ohhhhhhhhh Yaaaaaaa! as I crash through the wall (just a little addition of the KoolAid commercial from when when I was a kid )
  16. Just to mention, if you like the KG5.5 you would Love the RF7's. I had a pair of those also. Almost the same makeup but bigger and badder. So unless you plan to go bigger stay with what you got. they are nothing to sneeze at!
  17. Dynaco is another reasonably priced option.
  18. I bought another pair of KG 5.5 not too long ago. I am a big fan of them although I am using them as rear surrounds. They just can't holdup to my Khorns or Altec 19's but we are talking a tough order there. For the cost they are great.
  19. I just tested with a 1.5 volt battery and watched if the diaphragm went in or out. Should have just looked closer from the start.
  20. Still hoping to get this answered..... How do I know the polarity since there are no markings? Which is positive and negative? There are green and brown wires.
  21. Thanks Tom, I did not know if you still resided here. Tom, I have known you always to be level headed and knowledgeable about many brands along with Klipsch. I appreciate your input. I will post a picture of the internals if it helps ( diaphragm ). Thank You
  22. Once open these do look to be aluminum diaphragms inside. They also have tabs that are 90 degrees running from the diaphragm to the outside of the frame. How do I know the polarity since there are no markings?
