I understand the sentiment, but Paul's babies have changed throughout history.  Didn't Paul keep improving his speakers?  So upgrades were still possible, yes?  Didn't Klipsch release the Heresy III?  The Cornwall III?  So upgrades were still possible even then, yes?  Now, I bought Klipsch after first hearing Klipschorns in 1980 or so.  I own Klipschorns that have upgraded cross-overs - by Klipsch no less.

As I said, Klipsch can take action, and you obviously decided on a solution, but I still haven't seen anyone define the problem.  In any case, I don't peddle, so have at it.

Now, personally, I would like tar more aboutblowing the Pro Line and understand what exactly I am listening to at the good theater I frequent.  What's the difference between them and my Heresies, etc.  Which speakers are being used to reproduce all the bass in that theater, etc.

Ah man.  The top line pro theater units are mind blowing for two channel music in the home.

You maybe right but I bet it's bigger than you think but sales aside these are Paul's babies hence called heritage and what will stop is all peddlers talking about so called upgrades. Pretty simple?  The answer is yes.

    So Bones,

Does this mean that I can peddle my ear bud upgrades here?

There is no wimps to be found here. With such a diverse membership of age and experience, I am just surprised there is not more moderating than there is. Myself as an example, I have not received a single warning or point against when I may have  deserved one. There are various opinions and personality types here, from wearing of feeling on their respective shoulders, to those who are oblivious to their own words, and how they may make the other feel.

As for the broad generalizations about this or that, there are almost always exceptions. Painting with a broad brush almost always ends up labeling a person, topic, opinion, or thing. Labels are fine but not very helpful at getting at the truth. Truth is we are all different and unique, and the same. Take a serious topic like audio, which is like most things in life both complex and simple. A bit of an enigma.

This forum is not all about me, regardless of how my ego may feel about it. Reality shows me that I have barely scratched the surface of my experience and understanding about the intricacies of just Klipsch product, nevermind the associated hardware. In the past I have always referred new members to the search function, as there are untold riches and treasure  troves left here over the years before I even knew about this site. Have wanted to contribute more than I have taken from here, although I lack the knowledge to do so intelligently. This has resulted in some parroting by me. No, no wimps here. Just a vast group of people trying to get along with each other who have forgotten more than I may ever know. Like friends holding a grudge forever, all is forgiven when a Klipsch forum member is at a loss and needs a helping hand. Holding a grudge, like I have tried to learn, is more of a detriment to me, than the person who lets it slide off their back like water under a bridge. To make myself clear, which is difficult to do over a keyboard, I couldn't make a pimple on some of your ***'s when it comes to audio. Like my brother said to me before, you are the best there was, the best there is and, the best there ever will be. Same goes for you!

  9. FASTRAC Cornwalls anyone? I believe the concept has been out for a long time now. Similar to CornScala I first saw at BEC's all those years ago.

Was recently revisiting Al's website, and re-introduced to the subject on improving the mid-range of the Cornwall. I think I'd like to try it out on a pair of decorator cornwalls that I've been sitting on.

Was wondering if anyone here knows where I can obtain a K-600 horn, and what the going price was?

Any ideas on a template to help center the horn cutout? Not sure if Fastlane audio supplies the template, but if they do, never mind.

Ah man. I think that I have done almost everything in the book as to CW mod's. Networks, horns, tweeters, drivers, bracing.....

The one thing that stands out for me? The K-600 is a nasty little thing at volume. Chews on your pant leg.

After running several mid horns both inboard and outboard the small format FASTRAC horn wins.

  10. I usually hear comments like that from people who haven't done any exercise since high school gym class and get winded climbing a flight of stairs.

It has nothing to do with fitness.

At 67 I worked at a 180,000sf sports complex and smoked most kids in the 40. Never needed day-glo spandex to do that. How's your bench? smile

  11. The cost for sure. But why build in damping if they didn't think it was better?

MARKETING.  Why did they replace the time tested  zipcord with Monster cable?  MARKETING, not because it was a needed "improvement."  Similarly, why did Klipsch build speakers with bi-wire capability?  Again, MARKETING trumped science.  Bi-wiring is total yellow button, but the same customers who welcomed Monster Cable also welcomed bi-wire.  Such superfluous BS did not put off the knowledgeable customers, so why not throw the marketing people some bones?

Great examples and I'll buy that.

  12. I have never noticed a "ring" nor found the need.  Others will disagree...

It is my thinking that if the horn is mounted properly, no issues.

Why would Klipsch produce the K401 with built in damping if the K400 doesn't ring?

  13. This raises a question for me (not trying to hijack the thread). I know that the heresy was made as a center channel for the klipschorns. Back then (50s, 60s ish) there was no such thing as surround sound. So back in the 2 channel hay day, how did you hook up three speakers? Ask of the vintage equipment I have seen was only meant for left and right speakers. This has been bugging me for awhile.

Back in the day, at least one McIntosh pre-amp, the C-26, had a center output and volume control.

    http://www.roger-russell.com/c26pg.htm

I see that PWK complained that the pre-amps with the controls were not conveniently located.  Maybe this is what he was contemplating.

IIRC we had some discussion of a Scott with center channel configuration long ago.

I note that Klipsch was suggesting a small speaker as a center.  Further, in a Dope from Hope he suggested that retailers should suggest that a buyer wait until he can afford a Belle with K-Horns so that lack of distortion would be matched by the Belle horn loading.

I've often wondered why PWK (as far as I know) never suggested three CW's across the front (or Belle or anything).  Three identical speakers are what was used in the Bell Labs demo.

Of course there is some expense to all this.

    WMcD

    Well said.

Had a Marantz 7-T preamp in the '70's and the center pot was on the back.

    In two channel:

One reason for a center would be an excessive distance between the flanks leaving a "hole" in the middle. Another is that Khorns are locked into the corners so there is no toe-in.

  14. So who is coming over next year for the solar eclipse?  My place is right in line for it apparently.  As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been one to hit the continental US since 1979, and that one kinda sucked.  I was asked to host a mini-party and blast The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd during the eclipse.  Not sure how many people would travel for such a thing, but if that interests you, then you’re welcome to come over. Rumor has it that area hotels are already booked up but I cannot confirm.

I was around for the last one. Several buddy's eating lunch. We all ran out onto the parking lot. Damnist thing I ever saw! The air had this intense thick blue tint. ( and no it wasn't an acid flashback)

    It was beautiful.
