  1. Amazing! I just logged on to the forum to post a question about the exact same thing! My 1804 seems way underpowered from when i listened to it in the stores. Just received it, and I have to turn the volume way up during movies.(-20 just to get decent dialogue) I'm possitive all the polarity is correct, I'm just very surprised to find that 90watts/ch. is too little for the incredibly efficient Klipsch speakers. Maybe the RF15's I'm running aren't as efficient as the larger klipsch speakers, even though their drivers are smaller.? Any more help would be great -just to add, my friend bought an Onkyo running 85 watts/ch. to some incredibly inefficient MTX audio speakers with 6" midranges and 12" woofers, and he can crank his much more than I can. I just feel a little cheated and confused? My denon is supposed to be more powerful!
  2. I know what you mean about the herritage series J.4knee. I used to have a couple of cornwalls and never had any trouble, still a comment like that coming from someone supposedly in the know made me shutter a little.
  3. IXOS is my personal favorite for price and quality. Check them out! http://www.ixos.co.uk/us_interconnects/index2.html
  4. He didn't specify which line of klipsch speakers he was referring to about the problems. When I asked, he said that he would see all lines, from herritage all the way up to modern reference. I said that I had a hard time believing that with a 400 watt peak (on my RF15's even) that I would be able to blow them that easily. His response was (and I quote again) "Wow, 400 watts on the RF15's, what's the max continuous wattage?" I replied 100. "That doesn't sound right! Your continuos should be at least 65% of your max. Either they're (klipsch) under rating the continuos, or they're way over rating the peak wattage." My question is if klipsch is completely accurate on their rateings. Anyone else ever tested the speakers ratings to prove the accuracy? Is this 65% rule a real mark to follow, or is Klipsch just different? Any more thoughts?
  5. I was chatting with a friend of mine this weekend who used to work for an authorized repair center. I was bragging about my new klipsch system, when he mentioned that he had seen more klipsch speakers blown than any other company. He said that the coils tend to over heat and melt together. I quote "They're decent speakers, just don't crank 'em too much becuase they're known in the industry to be a little touchy." Now, being a big Klipsch fan, I automatically defended my purchase, and the Klipsch name. I have never heard of anyone ever having problems of this nature.(and I've cranked mine let me tell you! ) He also said that he prefered Boston Acoustics and that the Klipsch speakers seem rough and harsh sounding to him. Are these claims about Klipsch justified or are these his bias tendancies talking ? Anyone have any experience with this. I'm not sure whether he was refering to klipsch home or professional speakers or both. Shed some light on this dark subject.
  6. I would go with the RF25's. The larger cabinet allows for stronger bass response, and floorstanders are just all around great looking. I honestly believe the RF25's will perform better. The RF3's are also a great speaker. You make the choice, but I personally would always go for a floorstander over a bookshelf. I've got RF15's, and don't have any complaints.
  7. Thanks for all the info. The sub is up to about 85 hz now, and the rf15's set to small. ". It hurt to call my RF-7's "small" in the set up, but at 80hz it's sounding pretty good to me " I understand what you mean Darren. (AND I ONLY HAVE RF15's!) We'll give it a few weeks of listening to see how performance matches.
  8. Thanks Darren, that's exactly what it was. My rf15s were set to large and taking a little too much low end. Am I going to experience any loss in performance by changing that setting to small. Should the sub be able to handle everything cleanly up to 80hz? Thanks
  9. Thanks, the denon does have adjustable crossover settings, but like you, I found it difficult to believe that the RF15's were distorting the low end at 80hz since their response goes as low as 46hz. It is just at high volume levels that I think the woofers on the RF15's are trying to handle more than they should. I'll play with it a little more.
  10. I just bought a pair of RF15's with RC25, RS25's and an RW12 sub. I'm having trouble finding a good combination with the cutoff frequncy for my RF15's and the crossover on the sub. I find that when I'm watching movies with some mid to low frequencies, my RF15's are taking too much, and the sub, not enough. I've got my receiver(Denon avr1804) set to an 80hz cut off for my RF15's and the sub is up to just above that for the crossover. The RF15's are just distorting the lower frequencies in their range a little. I really don't want the sub to be handling anything much above 80hz. Any suggestions?
  11. Sony's full specs list for es speakers here: http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=lsVoXU_7nlRoXQ_03pBiVgDr8zhdaPzYToc=?CategoryName=hav_ESShowcase_ESShop_Speakers&Dept=hav&TemplateName=item%2fsy_item_b&ProductSKU=SSX90ED
  12. Can you beleive that Sony reports that its new es line of speakers can reach a screeming 70khz.!?! Most high end receivers from denon, yamaha, hk, and others only support up to 20khz and they are marketing these as home theater speakers? Shed some light on that mystery if you can. Sounds like a waste of material and just specs to lure the unsuspecting audiophile into their realm of poor sound reproduction. Possibly over rated? Even KEF's with their hyper tweeters "only" hit 55khz
  13. Apology accepted Alan, I'm sorry for insulting you. As for starting this thread, I hope no one gets too angry. After reading all the posts, I went down to Home Depot last night, and bought 80ft. of pure copper 12ga. lamp cord. (honestly, I made the decision to go with lamp cord because they didn't have any white speaker wire) Thanks for all your posts. Even if the debate gets heated, it makes for an interesting read.
  14. Thanks for your courtesy Alan. I'm sure you have a whole lot more experience and knowledge with only 46 posts. Forum members, I motion to disregard alan and his statement. Second anyone?
  15. If I have some regular 12ga. copper lamp cord, 12ga. no name speaker wire, and 12ga. regular copper monster cable,(not bandwidth balanced)would there really be that much of an improvement as you go up the line. For all of monster's hype, is it really worth the extra money?
  16. Correction... "over" 70khz. Hmmm.... that ipmlies accuracy!
  17. Thanks for the extra info. I haven't ever had any terrible experiences with sony. Seems to me they have all been built fairly well, but lean a lot toward the sound preferences of the designer, and leave little to be tweaked toward my listening preferences. I haven't ever been able to put my finger on exactly what I didn't care for. Just my experience though. Thanks again! On a side note, can you beleive that their new es line of speakers can reach a screeming 70khz.!?!
  18. You should be using an optical cable for your xbox, and take advantage of the dolby digital 5.1!!! Don't just settle for pro logic when you can have the real thing! I don't!
  19. I'd do the same as tpg, but put the RC7's at your left and right, and put the RB7's begind. The RC7's make a great 180 degree sound stream and can be mounted straight on to the wall on either side of your main seating.
  20. I need wall mounts for my RS25s, but the wall that I'm mounting the rear right on is perpendicular to my couch. I need a mount that brings the speaker out far enough from the wall so that it can be rotated to point in the direction of my couch without catching the wall. Its a little difficult to explain. I would mount them on the wall at the back, but it's a little far from my couch, and behind my bar. I need a mount that has about a 6-7" arm to mount the speaker on, giving it enough clearance from the wall to be swivelled into the right possition. Is that clear?
  21. I'm looking for a decent SACD player. I usually like to stay away from SONY components, but I heard that SACD was sony's technology and that they make the best players. Enlighten me on the subject! Thanks
  22. I've got a denon dra-1035r receiver with 130 watts/ch. Sould I keep it for my 2 channel system or sell it? I've been told I could probably get $300 for it. That would put me close to some tubes, but I like having a little more power. Any comments?
  23. and one of the back pannel. please email me with questions
  24. Denon DRA-1035R with 130 watts per channel A&B speaker outputs, phono input, continuously variable loudness, rca pre outs, and includes a denon backlit lcd remote control. email me for more info and pics. Purchased it new for $975, asking only $300. jpgobroncs@aol.com
