  1. Orders will be coming any day. I have a friend who's son is a 'Pathfinder' -- he left for Iraq last night. Poop will fly soon.
  2. Randy, I thought the Laurels did have 6SN7's? At any rate -- If you need another pair, I have a brand new set of CBS Brownbase 5692's over here that you can have. Kelly won't agree, but it's the same tube as the Redbase. Made by RCA for CBS. I think I put 4 hours on them with my AE-3 DJH. Just get me your mailing address -- and you can have them. Passing along the grace and generosity shown to me by Edmond.
  3. Craig, I apologize, and I hope you can forgive me. I just wanted to throw a little salt in your eyes, I didn't mean for you to take it as you did. Looks like Hussein blinked. He's giving up those two missles. Interesting. Andy, you may be right. It may be a done deal. Like I said, once it starts, I'll be changing gears. I went to bed last night praying for special protection on Ranger and Craig's son. I prayed for a swift and decisive victory. I prayed confusion on the enemy, and I prayed for the Iraqi people. I then prayed that God keep the rest of Middle East out of this one. Looks like I'll be adding Andy to the list tonight. In my head, I rebel against this whole thing -- but in my heart, I'm with the warriors. 100%. No reason for anyone to stay upset with each other. Venting is good. We need each other for that.
  4. I didn't mean it as a low blow, and I think you know that. I meant it in the sincerest way. You see, that's the way I look at this whole thing. Is it worth the ultimate sacrifice? I have a 17 year old son who could end up in this thing if it gets out of hand. I look at him and think -- would I give him up for this? HELL NO! I'm the kind of person that if it's worth it, if it's a must do -- I'm first in line. If world peace could come by putting a bullet through me head -- I would pull the trigger myself. To put this whole thing in it's proper perspective, we HAVE to personalize the issue. I'm sorry, but the ultimate sacrifice demands the ultimate argument -- and I just don't see it. My dad goes out and gets drunk every November 23rd, comes home and cries himself to sleep. He's been doing this since 1967, when Uncle Pat was gunned down in the back pushing two wounded friends into a chopper. I don't want to see anyone go through that for the wrong reasons.
  5. I just don't get the sense of urgency on this thing. He's had these weapons for a decade -- and NOW we wanna get him. GET HIM, GO...NOW, GO...HURRY...GET HIM NOW NOW NOW NOW. Yeesh. Some of you sound like rabid dogs. So which is it? Are we going after him as part of the war on terrorism, or is it because of Resolution 1441? Does this mean we go after Israel next -- since they are currently in violation of quite a few themselves. I guess bulldozing Palestinian homes and schools, and throwing people into refugee camps isn't "terrorism". Consistency thou art a jewel.
  6. 1 trillion or 10 trillion? How about 1. Tell me the truth Craig -- would you give up your son?
  7. I enjoyed reading that post.
  8. I was actually thinking that since you had the sub -- you could get by with some nice monitors like the RB-5. However, you really didn't tell us anything about the size of your room, or what you like to listen too, or how loud, etc...
  9. Take my word for it. Dennis is The Man. He's going to figure it out, stumble onto something interesting, turn it into a jewel, send yours back -- and then make another 1000 of them. Don't sweat it and be patient -- it'll work out.
  10. Mark is right on with everything he has said, and I'm astounded that with all the gripping logic, it has failed to take hold. Forget the complexities involved with the issue, and just focus on the obvious. Hussein has WOMD -- what the hell are we doing sending anybody in there? You don't think this clown is going to use them? We back him into a corner and this is going to get ugly fast. You think Israel is going to sit this one out after he launches an Anthrax laced scud into Jerusalem? Think Syria is sleepwalking through this? Turkey, Greece, and Saudi Arabia? Can you say dubya dubay dubya III? Since Saudi won't cooperate in our endeavor to root terrorists out of their society -- we now feel the need to potentially off a million people so we can have a presence in the Middle East. One more thing. The chances of Hussein and the secular Baath Party doing ANYTHING to help out the Wahhabis, or that the Wahhabis would take a single dime from Hussein -- is about 0%
  11. "Mr. Bush is unique in this regard of divining the direction of our nation through the Word of God..." Seriously Mark, there is nothing unique about this. Think about it. There is no way a person can separate out their belief system from their decision making. At any rate, if he were really driving the direction of the nation using the Word of God -- he wouldn't be doing this. "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world...Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness." http://www.castlebar.ie/news/printer_no_to_the_iraq_war.html And it's one, two, three, What are we fighting for? Don't ask me, I don't give a damn, Next stop is Vietnam; And it's five, six, seven, Open up the pearly gates, Well there ain't no time to wonder why, Whoopee! we're all gonna die. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The only thing men learn from history, is that men never learn from history. Klipsch Out.
  12. I don't even want to know what Kelly was doing at the site associated with the link he provided. Egads. Mark, though I agree with your analysis, and have been enjoying the thread with your marvelous posts (which have saved me a multitude of keystrokes) -- I think you went over the line. Please be careful with this kind of thing. Judas Iscariot was a religious/political zealot, who had little in common with the other disciples of Christ. I'm also offended that you correlate a lack of intelligence with religious zealotry. Again, please refrain from stereotyping. I am a religious zealot. Yet, I have no intention of dragging anyone, kicking and screaming -- into God's kingdom. I am also Historical Amillennial from an eschatological perspective, which puts me at major odds with the Dispensational Premillennial teachings prevading the majority of churches. The doctrines associated with the latter are responsible for much of the lunacy regarding Christian political positions and the country's infatuation with Israel. Raw Christianity as Jesus, Paul, and Co. taught -- is a far cry from much of what is out there. There are many of us just trying to live decent, quiet lives.
  13. Geepers Doug -- your'e slipping. Didn't you read the poor guys post? "I'm living in Belgium- Europe, and that doesn't make things easier. Buying in the USA is virtually impossible, because of the very high shipping costs, taxes and so on. In Europe these speakers aren't so widely spread, so chances to find them are much less."
  14. Hussein's actions over the last few days have convinced me he's just a clown asking for it. What idiot would put his whole country at risk with this ridiculous postering?
  15. Due to problems related to compression in the bass as the volume goes up, the only sub(s) I would recommend are a set of SVS Ultras. You could then use your solid state amp to drive the subs, and get yourself about 50 tube watts to drive the Belles. You would need an external electronic crossover like the $400 HSU research product. All said and done -- you would be all said and done.
  16. 45 watts is NOT too much power for a set of K-horns. Did you ever get your preamp situation straightened out? I just think you need a low gain preamp.
  17. If this fellow has a small room, and has them pushed into corners or against walls, it is possible he could be experiencing some imbalance. When I had the Heresies -- I thought the bass was evenly balanced. This coming from someone who is not really a bass freak. It is best to simply communicate your concerns to him. Have HIM check the drivers by simply turning the volume down and checking each driver by ear. Can you provide a link to the original eBay ad? Is it still available for viewing?
  18. I'm still curious about cost and availability, and whether or not the little box has been tweaked, or comes as is? If the amp is grain free, it might be interesting to use it in a horizontal biamping situation just driving the horns. Of couse, I'm thinking of an application involving a decent two-way. Reducing the load on the amp might net even cleaner treble.
  19. Craig, it's impossible to have a cable pass a signal "untouched". They all have variances in their electrical properties which shift the signature somewhat. The "right" cables are the ones that operate in a synergisitc manner with the rest of the gear. Ultimately, the tuning is to your own personal taste -- so there is no "right" cable when you get right down to it. Also, though resistance is primarily determined by cable length and thickness -- capacitance and inductance are not. The nature of these two is that as one goes up, the other comes down. low inductance is achieved by sandwhiching the positive and negative leads together as close as possible. However, when you do this -- capacitance skyrockets. The inverse is true as well, separate them out some, and inductance goes up, while capacitance drops. The Goertz speaker cable is the best I have ever heard in my system. The interconnects however, leave a lot to be desired. As far as trying the Scott on the RF-7's, I just didn't want to mess with doing another set of cables to make it work. One set of Goertz has spades on both ends (won't fit into the Scott terminal screw pads), and the other set was made to fit terminal screws on both ends. I gave all of my copper stranded to my dad for his JBL's. Kelly, The Superlatives from DIYcable, as well as the Risch designs were on my short list. However, I've got a substantial amount of silver over here. Remember those Music Metre's I bought from AudiogoN for $160? Since I didn't really prefer the sound over copper for the most part in the speaker cable role, I decided to tear one down and see what was underneath. What I found was six solid core strands of 20 gauge, five nine silver in each six foot cable. There are four cables, so what I have is 144 feet of 20 gauge silver. Gee, that's enough for 24 sets of interconnects. Wanna buy a set?
  20. Seems Hussein has been following this thread -- he wants to 'debate' Bush.
  21. Craig, I won't know if the RF-7's 'work' or not until I get Edmond's SLP-90/4 on Thursday. They are finished however. Upstairs system will be: Cary SLP-90/4, Quicksilver Mono-60's (60 watt, EL-34 based, running in ultralinear, with 12db of negative feedback), and the Sony 9000es. Speaker cables are Goertz, interconnects will end up being my version of the Chris Vanhaus DIY silvers. For now, I'll use my 550i's. The Quicksilvers are here, all hooked up and ready to go. They showed looking like new. I bought them from the original owner who evidently is as anal as I am when it comes to taking care of stuff. They are gorgeous. Downstairs will be the Cornwalls, Marantz DV-7010, and Scott. Again, Goertz speaker cable and 550i's until I finish my own interconnects. I haven't written a post on the Scott mostly because I just haven't had the time. I've been spending all of my time inside the Cornwalls, finishing the RF-7's, and as of late -- working on this second set of DQ-10's. I think most here know what I think about the Scott. I liked the first one you sent me enough to 'upgrade' to the 299B, and I just ordered the custom case for it from Marc in Canada. That case should be here by the end of the week. I also didn't want to write anything until I got things dialed in somewhat. I'm extremely high on the amp -- I think it's the bomb with the Cornwalls. I know you don't want to hear this, but Heritage and tubes are EXTREMELY reactive to cable changes. I've had both the silver and copper Goertz Mirc Purls between the Scott and Marantz. Even after the major improvement the tweaks gave me, I still felt there was a general lack of warmth. I couldn't figure out how the Cornwalls could be THAT different from the Heresies, and reacting to a gut feeling -- yanked the Goertz interconnects and put the Monster's back in. I'll just say that the Purls are going back to Alpha-Core, and the Monsters are staying in for now. A design that seems to work so well with their speaker cables, appears to be a complete downer with their interconnects. I must have read over a hundred archived posts at the Asylum, and finally stumbled across an interesting post by Jon Risch. Jon indicated that the lowest inductance possible between speakers and amp will usually sound the best, and the lowest capacitance possible will sound the best between source components. In other words -- lowest inductance possible with speaker cables and lowest capacitance possible with interconnects. The Goertz speaker cables are VERY low on the inductance side, but very high on the capacitance side. Good for speaker cable, bad for interconnects. As of last night, my ears agree with his assessment. Things are dialed in over here with Cornwalls and Scott -- and I'm really happy with the sound of this setup.
  22. So what is the deal with this thing? Can you buy them this way, did Leo work his magic on it somehow? Where do you find them, and how much are they? A good candidate for very late night listening?
  23. The Marantz isn't that bad. As far as mass market players go -- it's decent. Geez, it did originally list for $900, and hung fairly decently with both my old Anthem CD-1 and Sony 9000es. No more play money -- so this is it -- and 'it' is pretty damn good. Listening to Rush 'Permenant Waves' right now. Lot's of great compression. Leo's amp huh? 'Interesting' in the Chinese kind of way -- or just interesting?
