  1. My last electric bill... $68.. They just filled my LP tank for the hot water and stove @ $2.49 a gallon. Life is pretty good around here right now. Gasoline is down to $3.09 or so. Bruce 40 F and 40 mph winds out of the North East at the moment and I feel like I am one of the luckiest SOB as I missed out on last weeks destruction. only lost power for 12 hours, Sandy could have just as easily gone a bit farther north and done it's hard left into Boston instead of New Jersey. Yes, yes you were lucky. I didn't have power for 5 days and I got off light!
  2. My dad had 1980's Craftman tools, I used them inappropriately like a wrench for a hammer but it still works and looks fine. I want to buy a new set of Craftman tool even with the ridiculous markup they have compared to similar products out there but I wonder, will they work and stand up to time like my dad's? Probably not. Hence I won't buy them. This article re enforces it.
  3. I forgot, the company had to lay off 32 American workers.
  4. Viking Funeral..... its the only way As for the structure, you can see MDF no way can they be all weather!
  5. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/09/business/popular-wrench-fights-a-chinese-rival.html?_r=0 Basically a tool called the bionic wrench made in America, sold in Sears was copied by Sears, made in China and Bionic Wrench was no longer sold in Sears.
  6. With the dented cones an extra screws holding the horn in?
  7. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the bridge does not get "hit" anymore. So many truck drivers hit it and the city had to repair it that they put a barrier before the bridge that like a can opener prys the trucks open so it does not hit the bridge anymore. http://11foot8.com/
  8. Gentlemen, thank you Speaker Fritz if you need any help from me, just say send me a pm or I think you have my cellphone number.
  9. Good, I know where he lives and remember he lived close to the water when I met him.
  10. Thanks guys. I have no central air so much less load. I do have a electric dryer but I won't run it when I am on generator. I believe I was seeing at home depot the 4000 dollar one. Well I wonder with the natural gas piping now that I think I probably have to get larger size. As for placement I live on a hill so I have no pooling of water. Hell my sump well is bone dry even with the hurricane and no power.
  11. Not Larry here. When I bought mine, it was a little over 4K. I did my own gas piping (plumber in a former life) but I paid an electrician to wire it up. All said, between 5 and 6K. You can certainly spend more. Another option is to get a smaller (cheaper) generator and hand pick what circuits you want to run and do a type of semi whole house back up. Thanks. I saw one at home depot for around 3k and well it can't do whole house with ac etc I am just happy to have a hot shower about now. I have a gas water heater but it needs electric to work. Damn. Power looks to be down for atleast another 2 days
  12. Well hurricanes are the ocean's way of dissipating excessive heat. I figure, the water temps before and after sandy is probably a big difference. Well as of now three tunnels flooded, another train only tunnel flooded. Hoboken under water still. No one thought the hudson would surge. Gas a premium now as nj is basically on generators. Larry if may ask how much in total was the natural gas whole house generator? I think its time to invest in one.
  13. My friend lives in dc he said it pretty much dodged a bullet
  14. Stoves still work with a match, natual gas is intact and fine. Its keeping the house warm. I also have a bbq and coleman stove with some gas. Coleman lantern is good right now. Thankfully dad brought us camping when we were little and kept the stuff.
  15. Glad your OK, and yes it could have been alot worse. I know it sounds sick but I hope it really scared everyone, at least enough so they leave next time . I say this because it would save many thousands if a cat 3,4,5 ever hits, they may remember this and get out. Yeah I think irene made everyone complacent as it was not that bad. Our governor is pissed at the atlantic city mayor. So Ithink no power for atleast a few days. Water and gas still work. Gotta eat everything in the fridge now. Down the block 80 feet tall oak trees fell over into houses and cars :-/ It could have been worse for us. Few shingles need to be fixed, one gutter pipe fell off, aluminum side fell off, all together meh Hopefully larryc is oak?
  16. No power here but everything else okay. My verizon fios was knocked down by a tree limb. Minor damage around the house. Water and natural gas still works. Could have been worse
  17. I think the actual center is now aimed right at Atlantic City, I live about 100 miles north. I was thinking about a natural gas generator but the cost and location is detering me. I am actually just worried that my sump pump might stop if the electricity stops. I am on a hill and hopefully last years ice storm knocked down all the branches that will be stirred today. I think the coast will be flooded as it already has during high tide but more so. Actually social media is great for a pretty accurate picture of what is happening right now. http://imgur.com/zlGyY I am hopefully fine as I am about 125 feet elevation on the side of a granite hill. All I worry is like last time Irene overwhelmed the pump station and we did not have running water for about 5 days. It was not the most pleasant. Electricity hopefully won't go out but it should be restored quickly as I am next to a hospital which is priority one. Same for if any trees fall down in the front yard, the route is the main hospital route and the city will most likely cut it pieces to open the route. So I am not sure, crossing my fingers but prepared with charged batteries, led flashlights, tools, etc. One thing though the stores still had bread and water surprisingly. http://imgur.com/a/KNq2Q No idea who made it but its there and it was fresh.
  18. Larry, how are things, I presume the storm is approaching?
  19. I just went to my local supermarket I have no idea what brand this is but well there is still bread
