  1. Sorry for the double post... I was going over some of the setting in the denon setup menu..When I do the manual test tones the reciever automatically brings the volume up to 00( which is near max!) and from they I can calibrate it at 75db. I know there is no need to set do testtones on the receiver menu if I plan on using the dve disc for a actual tone settings... But my question is this, when I do the dvd route for test tones I bring the volume up to -15(my reference level) and calibrate it at 75 db from there. But since the receiver goes to 00 volume level for test tones is that a better starting point for doing the test tones on the dve disc at 75 db. Hope you follow my poor explanation! Usually evening equals beer which equals slurred thought process
  2. I new sub is in order for sure..the ksw15 looks like a quintet under those monster.. other than looks nice...the rears are huge main I wich I had those for mains. They are my favorite in the heritage line very clean looking NIce
  3. Hi I live in nj..I have the new crutchfield catalog. I will take a look. I would love for a denon but I think.. to get want I want it will get pricey. How much better are these newer and more expensive dvd players? If there isnt much of difference in mine verse newer dvd. I might just go for the cd changer I keep going back and forth on it!
  4. Thats what I have been thinking, my next question is how much better can a say 200 dollar dvd changer and 500+ actaully be. Most players now are progessive scan with digital outs (either optical or coaxial..usually both) I dont need it to have a decoder since my reciever is more than glad to do it. Then three is dvi output but I have heard mixed reviews with that! Hmmm
  5. Hi Well since I am due to have a baby(well the wife is). This will probably be my last purchase for a while..When I moved about 3 years ago I dropped my cd player and it broke. I have been using my dvd player for cds when neccasary. I currently have a Toshiba progessive scan dvd player(paid about 140 for it at BB about 2 yrs ago). I dont know if I am better off buying a 6 dvd/cd changer, or a cd changer. cant do both since my budget is at 500 tops! I am happy with my dvd player I have know, and I wonder if I was to get a newer one what type of improvemnts can I expect if any!!... SACD would be nice but not a must since I would probably say I am 90% DVD and 10 % music Also I really would like a silver faceplate PS Still battling my tv hourglass shape in widescreen mode. Tv tech couldnt fix it at home, looks like it will need to go in for service!
  6. Hi Cant say much about the sub but I had a pair of dcm 12 floorstanding speaks, I got them at circuit city for like 250 a piece or something. I really liked them and they had a lot of bass. They are a canadian speaker and not heard of often Good luck

    Video tuneup

Well this could be found under a search. But look for a Digital Video Essentials DVD (25 bucks) or Avia (50). I have the DVE it has both a video and audio tune up..very detailed. Good Luck
  8. I hate it when I rent a flic and hope to get one with a decent soundtrack. But it just plain stinks. I will check multiple times to see if it is in 5.1 mode or better too, just to be sure. Any new releases that have a good soundtrack???? My 2 cents
  9. Hi The center chanel has a adjusting foot so you can angle it down. Mine is about 6 feet up and I have it angled down so it was directed a little better. At times the center can sound lower, I have my center and rears a little hotter then the rest of my speaks. About 2 db higher for the center and maybe one db for the rears. Good luck!
  10. I was showing off my system to my cousin and put in the darla and sub scene from finding nemo. I wasnt in my sweet spot postion, which I always am. I seated to the far left. The sound was good a little of do to my of centered sitting postion. But man the svs sounded not nearly as loud from that spot! Too bad I dont have any other spot to put it! My cousin my impressed to say the least My 2 cents
  11. Here is a pic of my 6.1 setup viewing the back wall. rs-3 II's and rc-3 II. I am happy no room for any large floorstanding speaks for the rears Good luck
  12. I wish I could just sit and enjoy a movie instead of making sure everything sounds right....Sometimes giving a speaker a funny look when I expect to hear something out of it! I am dreading the tv dude coming over disconnecting wires pulling the ent center out. Try to bite my tongue when he or she begins to fiddle with my stuff, I will get as much ready as possible but those damn tv cables are so hard to reach in back of the tv! Watched Master and commander last week, good movie, but I thought the soundtrack was nice and loud with some real decent base in the begining and some other battle scenes
  13. Yes I tweak every couple weeks or more and usually I have to adjust something. It perfects check it a week later and changing it again. Wife thinks I am nuts, with the spl, and measuring tape to make sure they are equal distances and stuff. Making sure my wires are tight all the time, checking during the movie to be sure it is running the right format. Finally got all my wires tight and clean, and now the tv needs to moved for a tv repair, I am sure he will be gentle too . Looks like another two months of checking wires and spl again!
  14. My reciever will do either 6.1 or 7.1. I new the wife would not go for 4 rears so I used the two rears. And put a rc-3 II in the center back. For sources that are recorded in a discrete 6.1 it sounds great. ddex sounds good, but when it just matrixs the rear for like prologic or a 5.1 I usuall y turn the rear center off. I havent quite nailed the right setting for it for all formats Good luck
  15. I was reading about some bose cubes, because my friends always bragging about them. I tried to kindly say they sucked but really could get my point out right. Any way it was talking about clipping in some scenes in a dvd from the bose, what does that mean exactly. And secondly, I have all my speaks set to small, and I think main+sub for bass at 80hz crossover. When running the dve disc, there is a test called the buzz and rattle which brings a tone from high down to 20hz. My rf3II where still audible in the 70 range, does this mean I should change my mains to large of is the main+sub option essentially the same Thanks
  16. I am no expert, but I think rs-7 would be good. I have the rs-3 II and they sound good for movies and such. For music probably rf would sound nicer but I primarly use my system for HT viewing. Many hear feel that you get a better match if you use the same fronts as rears and others feel the opposite. Maybe you could get both and hook both up and see which you prefer and return the other. I dont have the room for the rf for rears, so I never even thouht about it. I am curoius how my system sounds compared to other klipschers. I have a friend who brags about his bose cubes sound all the time...I would like to see how it sounds...And how much better mine are. It is amazing how many people are impressed or think bose are top-notch. Good luck
  17. I would still push for the toshiba or samsung. Toshiba first and then samsung if you want too spend less. You should be able to get a toshiba 32 hd at bb for about 1100 or so Good Luck
  18. I like the toshiba the 32hf73 is a hd a little over 1000 though. The samsung is good too you should be able to get that in hd for about a 1000
  19. They said to stick it on mtrx on. That is what I have it on anyway...Although her explaination between matrx on and normal on. Did seem real good. I think she said they saound alittle different. I will just have to test and listen through time Thanks
  20. I planned on calling them today but didnt get a chance to call Ill post back when I get a chance Thanks
  21. Yes, But that descritption(for the modes) is exactly what the manual says and to me it doesnt seem to clearly specify! Thanks
  22. Hi There are a few setting for my receiver for the center rear Off. Non mtrx-same signals those of the surr channels are output from the surronf back channels Mtrx on-surround back channell is reproduced using digital matrix processing normal off No playback through surrond back normal on- surruond back channel is reproduced using digital matrix proccessing My question is when watching a 6.1 discrete movie which setting should it be on? How bought 5.1 which one? Prologic? Thanks
  23. HI I am not familiar w/ your reciever. But the sub cable should go to the lfe in of the sub, to the sub out on the receiver. No adapter, the sub hum sounds like a ground loop problem, where a simple adapter attaches to the power cord Good Luck
  24. oh boy I have a 36hf73 toshiba not widescreen. I noticed that the leftside top and bottom had a very noticable curve to it, bent up at the top left of screen and bent down on the right side. The top left curve was the most noticable. The right side a slight curve to it but not as much. It was most noticable in widescreen mode. You could see the top left line of the image bend up and the bottom down. I eventually returned it, same thing on replacement but not as much. Toshiba said that a slight curve is normal(although my 32hf72 never did that). I will eventually get a repair guy out to look, but I think it is the nature of these tvs. Not real happy about it, I dont think my next tv will be a toshiba! Has great pic, but real unhappy with that curve. I bought it from a local applaince store that doesnt like to take return(makes me wish I went to like bb or something like that with a no question return policy). This place makes you get a repair guy first, and then it is still a hassle to return it
