  1. When I feel down or depressed, or worried, I'll often just hang around at night. It's not that I won't be able to sleep, it's that I won't want to get to sleep.
  2. Oh please. The whole concept of organic = trash. I'll much rather eat 'golden' rice than natural one.
  3. Also, I would not be surprised there are a few unscrupulous types that'll rip'em into the computer before unloading them. Why wouldn't you?
  4. Nope... Americans are fat. Damn fat. Other countries where the average level of income is close or even higher than ours have several times less overweight people. Some states have surpassed 50% in terms of overweight population. That's insane.
  5. Sorry to hear about that. Good luck, and too bad about the dog.
  6. colter are you going to goto the photo convention this year??? I am, it would be nice to finally meet you. Also Meuge, that is a nice place, I believe my brother lives near there I forgot exactly where. The prices are crazy, how the heck did you find that place with a view for a college student!!! That must be 2000 a month atleast! Also its probably a bit lonely, why not go enjoy the outsides. And if you want me to I can bring over a 12 pack [] I am going to host an apartment-warming at some point. Send me your email addy and I'll invite you.
  7. Thanks. No, I do not have my MD yet. The program splits the MD portion into basic and clinical. I finished the first portion, and now I have to finish my PhD before I get to go back to the wards and finish medical school. It's going to be a long road... most likely another 5-6 years.
  8. The key is to pay attention to the bolded part. Everything else is bollocks, really. Americans are fat, cause for the most part, they are content, lazy, and gluttonous in all the wrong ways. We've become a culture of such a high average income, and such available luxuries that we have become fat and complacent. Does that mean you bypass the elevator and take the stairs to and fro your new cool apartment? What floor is that on anyway? Nice view, btw I am not argueing with what you said, think your right. It's on the 7th floor. And no, I don't take the stairs... but I have a very rigorous exercise schedule. I run 3 days a week, lift weights 3 days a week, and swim 1 day a week. I exercise in the morning every single day, other than the past week or so, but that was because I had injured my shoulder wrestling. I am also enrolling in Krav Maga classes at the end of the summer (can't now, due to time constraints).

  10. No, actually it's a little park between two very expensive apartment buildings (one of them seen on the left in the picture. They are located on the north and south of the block... there is a commercial strip which closes off the block on the west (which you can't see beyond the trees (the picture looks west)... and my building closes the square from the east. The neighborhood is Murray Hill.
  11. It's both. I like the city, but I do not like the rent prices. If I could, I'd probably live elsewhere and save my money. However, I am restricted to living here by my school and work: I simply cannot spare 2 hours a day for commuting. Plus, I do not like public transportation, and I'd have to take it, because keeping a car parked in the city costs $350+/month.
  12. Thanks for the kind words everybody... while I may seem kinda casual about it, I am actually feeling quite heartbroken and awkward. As I am sure all of you know, when you are with someone for that long, and you're happy for the most part, it's hard not to see that person around. But things happen. In any case, how about a daytime view:
  13. Now I feel grown up. On Wednesday is my 25th birthday... on Thursday and Friday I am taking the qualifying exam for the PhD candidate title/M.S. degree... and today is my first night in my new apartment in midtown manhattan. Unfortunately not everything is well, as myself and my girlfriend of 5 years have split up. Now I have to re-learn how to live on my own... but I can't imagine a better environment to do it. The entertainment wall: ... and for the grand effect, the view from my window this fine night:
  14. so are you heading towards an amplified sub-woofer or running a second amp to a non-amplified sub-woofer? I have an amplified subwoofer right now. I am very satisfied with its performance... I just wish I could get rid of the insertional artifacts that the ICBM is giving me. I do not need its multichannel capability, nor the myriad of its adjustible functions. All I need is for my line-level signal to be cleanly segregated between my speaker amp and my subwoofer amp, based on the frequency. Thanks for your replies, btw. so you need to by-pass your existing internal amp circut. are you handy enough to replace you existing sub woofer internal amp with something like the below? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-784 or http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-796 I think we misunderstood each other. When I said my subwoofer was amplified I meant it has its own amp (the PartsExpress 1000W), not that it's running off my speaker amps. P.S. The sub is the Titanic III 15"

  16. I do not know whether it should be active or passive (somehow I think that steep crossovers are likely to be active), but what I am sure of is that I'd like it to be line-level, as opposed to speaker level... something I could put between my preamp and amp.
  17. I was wondering how complicated it would be to build a simple, non-adjustible 24dB/octave or steeper crossover to use a subwoofer in a 2-channel system. I am using the Outlaw ICBM-1, and I am happy with it, but there is a little bit of insertional noise (noticeable with tube preamps) and some loss of soundstaging. I figure this can be minimized with a simple crossover built of really high quality parts. If someone has done this, or knows somebody who has, let me know. Also, if you think it's better to just purchase this equipment, suggest a piece or two. Thanks.
  18. Looks very familiar. A few days ago, we put a quarter pound of afghan gold through such a pipe, while camping out with some bedouins in the Jewish desert, about 5-6 miles south of the Masada, under a beautiful desert sky. Then we lit a bonfire and about 4 hours before sunrise we fell asleep on 1-inch thick mattresses, using the sheep method to keep warm, just to get up about an hour later and make our way to meet the sunrise at the Masada.
  19. Most new games support dual-core chips natively, and many benefit simply from the windows processes being offloaded to another CPU. At this point dual-core chips rule performance-wise in games. But Intel's Pentium 4 DC is a pretty sucky way of doing dual-core, with few instructions for load-balancing. AMD's X2 CPUs are far more efficient, and are predictably MUCH faster. Intel's Core 2 Duo technology (not to be confused with Core Duo) will be a much better implementation, and we're all looking forward to it.
  20. It's a pretty big meeting, with the director of the WHO taskforce, and the president of the American Virology Society (who's also a world-renowned flu expert). Should be fun.
  21. Don't worry Tom, I'm holding onto it for you. If you're going to call, please call between 11am and 5:30pm EST. I have class until 11, and at 5:30, I am attending a reception on avian flu. Alternatively, you can let me know when is a good time I can call you.
  22. Apparently I don't... haven't gotten it. Just email me at "themeuge!remove!@gmail.com", just remove the "!remove!".
