  1. I guess I'm just from the old school of stereo=2 speakers: I just have to get use to the idea that the bass dosn't really need to come out of two speakers, and that a subwoofer can work. marc
  2. If I am forced to get some bookshelf speakers, how will a subwoofer sound when listening to stereo? Thank you,....marc
  3. I have a very old pair of Cerwin Vega's (I think they are D-7's), which have a great sound; they are 3-way, and have 12" woofers for an nice deep bass sound. Problem is, my wife says they are too big, and wants something smaller. So. I'm thinking that the RB-61's may do the job. I have a 10 year old Onkyo, and am wondering if the RB-61 will push out some decent bass. So, just looking for some +/- comments on the RB-61's Thnak you,.....marc
  4. and why are some rear ported? In looking at center channel speakers I noticed that some are not ported, some are front ported, and some are rear ported. I wouldn't think a speaker that small would need to be ported, but if anything I would think front ported would be the best? Sorry if this is a silly question, just trying to learn some.
  5. My ultimate goal is to end up with a nice system within my limited budget. That said I would like to stay with the sound I'm used to from my CV's which is soft, and just the right amout of bass. It was my wife's Idea to down size from the CV's to a smaller bookshelf type system, but for that to work I would need a subwoofer. I really don't have the room for a sub, and would prefer to end up with front speakers that have sufficient bass. I think I've convinced her for now (LOL). Yes, I'm all over the map here, and appreciate the suggestions thus far, but the KLF wasn't my idea, it was a suggestion, but out of my price range. My re-edge kit should be here tomorrow, and if I can re-edge my woofers without screwing them up, I'll hang on to the CV's till they blow up, or a great deal comes along on something else. I was looking at the Forte's as I thought they were in line with what I have now, only needless to say, with much better quality. However, I noticed the Forte's have a speaker in the rear? If so, they are out as I don't have the room, and may look to the Heresy's down the road. So basically I need a center speaker that will match the CV's. The JBL's are rear ported, so they are out of the running. I thought the KV-3 being an older speaker would fit in with the CV's better than a newer style. If not I was hoping the RC 25/35 would blend in somewhat. So all that said I am looking for suggestions to fit within my limited budget and room. Thank you
  6. I'm looking at these for a center for my system, and would like to know the sound characteristics, and differences between the 3 models. Thank you again!
  7. I've decided to keep my Cerwin Vega's until a nice pair of Forte's come along. I was looking at the RC25, or the JBL Northridge EC35, but I see one of the orum members is selling a KV-3. TheKV-3 looks like it has better frequency response. What do you guys think about the KV-3 with my system, as compared to the RC25 or EC35? I know i'm asking alot of questions, and I really appreciate the help.
  8. I've decided to keep my Cerwin Vega's until a nice pair of Forte's come along. So what center do you guys think would work the best; I'm thinking that since the center is so important I should go for the RC25. Thanks again for all the help.
  9. Need to replace my old Cerwin Vega D5's down the road (just ordered a re-edge kit from Orange Co. Speakers). I like the old sound, but my wife prefers I get rid of the big old speakers. However, I may be able (hopefully) to convince her the sound is better in the old stuff. I've read some posts on the Heresy and Forte series, and would like to know the difference between these two greats? Also, if I have to go with a smaller speaker, I'm looking at the RB-75's, and would like to know how they stack up to the Heresy & Forte. One of my concerns with the older speakers is parts availability; Are parts readily available? Thak you,
  10. Please do enjoy life and keep the faith knowing there are folks that care.
  11. Read a post or two here that indicates these are really great speakers. However, I notice the bass doesn't go as low as some others? I would think that with 12" woofers they would go below 50hz? Any reason? Thank you,
  12. My old speakers are some type of wood (pressboard I guess), but the newer speakers look like plastic? I would think wood would have a better sound than plastic? Thank you,....marc
  13. I currently have a 20 year oold pair of Cerwin Vega D5's with 12" woofers. The outter foam edges are shot, so I need to decide wether to re-edge/or replace them ( the wife would prefer smaller replacements); why don't women like the good ole stlye speakers???? I like the bass sound they produce, and really don't want to get a sub-woofer if I get new speakers (unless I have to), so I'm looking for some good speakers with decent bass. I have a 1998 Onkyo DS 747, and PSB bookshelf speakers for surrounds and no center (I have it split between the two D5's) What I'm really looking to find out is if the 75's have noticeably more bass than the 35's being that they both share the same woofer? Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you,....marc
  14. Ok, I am a newbee; Where would 7 speakers go? 2 Front, 2 Surround, 1 Center, and 1 in place of a sub-woofer?
  15. I currently have a 1988 pair of Cerwin Vega's, with a 12" woofers in them, which produce excellent bass sound. I also have a pair of PSB's for the surrounds. I have the center channel split netween the Cerwin Vega's, with an Onkyo TX-DS-747. My wife wants me to get the Bose Acoustimass 10 system, but I'm of the older school, and just don't believe you can get the good sound out of those small speakers. I would like to just like to replace the woffers in my old CW's, but she insists on new speakers. I like the RB 35's & RB-75's, and would like to know how good/deep the base sounds on them?
