  1. In my quest for a high end system, my opinion is in most cases an external DAC is of no benefit. I've auditioned the Muse 2, ART DI/O, EVS Millennium II, and Museatex Bidat with upgraded Dynaco ST70 and Bottlehead Foreplay. None impressed me to any extent. These compared to an Arcam Alpha 9 one box. How about this? The best system I've heard, period: old Sony DVP S7000 to a stock Sherwood S-5500II integrated, with home made Utah 12" 2-in-1 speakers, DIY CAT-5 cables, DIY Jon Risch IC's. All this for <$500. I think the whole answer is component matching, and KISS to reduce jitter, etc. Den
  2. Pulmoguy: Good to know the cost to replace. I didn't get around to check it out. I'll knock off $50. It's fair that I pay at least some of that cost. I live 12 miles northwest of Appleton. Den
  3. Here is another photo. I'll send another, also separately. Den
  4. Hello: Attached is a photo of the repair I took for my Ebay ad. I'll send more separately because my modem isn't capable of a large file transfer. The radiator is a solid repair. It's fine since it's only the passive and not a driver. They sound really excellent. It would be great to meet somewhere around Fond du lac, maybe an exit off Hwy 41? I'm available anytime. Regards, Den
  5. Hi members: Selling my nice Forte II's, only to raise funds to pay dental bills. Very good condition. The main issue is a repaired rear passive radiator. Very minor wear on edges, one top corner has a small ding. These are oiled oak cabinets. Made in 1990, serial mumbers 900019157 and 900019158. Looking to get $500, what I paid. I'm located on east central Wis. and am willing to deliver within 100 miles. These will be going on Ebay in a couple days if no response. Regards, Den
  6. Jon: I just received my S-5500II manual from www.W7FG.com in the mail. It's nicely bound with a removeable plastic spiral strip and has nice heavy covers. It consists of 32 pages plus an 11 x 17 foldout schematic. It contains a parts list of all capacitors, controls, transformers, and diodes. The 2nd number in your amp's serial number designates the year it was made (Ex. 0=1960,1=1961). It also contains information on other models, including solid state. These pages can be removed. You definitely need this and it's easily worth the $13.00 total. Regards, Dennis
  7. My experience agrees with 'Mobile'. I'm using a cheap Sony DVP S7000 cdp, Bottlehead Paramour mono 2A3s, and Forte II's, with a $15 DIY Radio Shack passive. The sound is truly amazing, great dynamics, soundstage, clarity, and balance. I have no desire to replace my homemade device with any other passive or active preamp. So, for around $600 you can have your complete amplifier system. Also, the DIY Paramours can be extensively upgraded. Regards, Dennis
  8. I have for sale an upgraded Arcam Alpha 9 cd player. It has the hush kit for optimum disc centering, cool running kit for the transformer section, and two additional resistors in the dac section. These bring it very close to the model FMJ-23. It also has three pointed cone feet installed. The remote is included and the original owner's handbook. I am asking $540 including delivery. Please email me at: dlnagreen@juno.com. I am also registered at Ebay under neergan1216 with many feedbacks. Thanks, Dennis
  9. Hello: I have a pair available. Attached is a photo. Regards, Dennis
  10. Hello: Currently using an Eico HF-81 amp with Wharfedale Emerald 99's @ 88 db sensitivity. I'm very pleased with the sound, but would a more efficient speaker offer any noticeable improvement? I've located a pair of Forte ll's (not mint) for $500 if I pick up. Should I take the plunge? Would appreciate any opinions, Dennis
  11. Hi: Wow! We really are close to each other. I'm looking for the best speakers to match with my Eico HF-81 14 wpc amp. I'm using Wharfedale Emerald 99's at 88 db sensitivity. They sound great. Would a step up be Forte's at 98 db? I've located a pair of Forte ll's for $500 if I pick up. Would appreciate any comparison results or suggestions. Thanks, Dennis
  12. Hello: Anyone willing to work a trade of your Fortes for my Heresys? Thanks much, Dennis
