  1. Dr. Who - thanks for the tip on the Denon, I'll have to swing it around tomorrow and do some measuring, maybe buy a cheap dual from Radio Shack to try out. I do like the cable loop on the dual you posted the link for, thanks much. where is the hold-down screw for securing the wire? the singles on the Blue Jeans Cable site come with heat shrink to cover the metal body and reduce risk of shorts, but certainly a consideration with any metal body plugs. appreciate the inputs!
  2. For the users of the dual bananas, does anyone have problems running the wire into the plug for use in a dense layout of jacks on a receiver rear panel? For the 12 AWG cable I'm considering, I guess I'd have to bend the cable back over the plug body, anyone have any good or bad experiences with this? Alternate option is to go with a non-stackable single banana with wire entry thru the barrel of the plug. Blue Jean Cables has this kind: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm and instructions for fab: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/Speaker_cable_termination.pdf Of course, I could not bi-wire for my RF-35 fronts with this plug, it is not stackable. Probably a non-issue.
  3. Rick, I was leaning towards the duals if my Denon 1804 will support the spacing. Did you put any heat shrink around the area where the wire is connected? What gauge wire did you use these with? thanks again -
  4. I'm getting ready to wire my surrounds and upgrade fronts and center speaker wire. Nothing too fancy, twisted pair Belden, probably 12 AWG. Looking at these banana plugs from Parts Express and just wonderred if anyone had used them. I know there have been lots of posts about pros/cons of bananas versus bare wire, etc., not really trying to resurrect any of that. Any users of these or comparables who have good or bad feedback? 5. Has Klipsch announced the MSRP for the new reference subs?
  6. I've been wanting to ask if anyone knows where to have dual turntables reconditioned. I have a 1229 from early 70's, has not been used for probably 20 years. Anyone have any sources? I am in the St. Louis area.
  7. APC has a couple of AV power conditioner units, I believe they also have UPS as well. these should generate pure sine wave to loads. I run an APC 1500 VA unit for my computer stuff, it is way overkill but found a steal for $100 with rebates at CompUSA a couple years ago, cheapest I've seen since then has ben $150. This is a tower type of unit, not well suited for AV. Check their site for the AV units, they look similar form factor to the Monster stuff, but APC is well known for their power conditioning products. http://www.apc.com/products/category.cfm?id=15&lid=1_15
  8. This amp with the PEQ looks nearly identical to the SVS amp in the PC-Ultra, the SVS amp adds line inputs, otherwise from a faceplate/panel it has similar layouts. Heat sink external for the one shown here, must be internal on the SVS. The SVS is 525 Watts, not sure about the one posted here.
  9. Wow!! I had just about given up on finding any Heritage gear in St. Louis. I'm out in O'Fallon, MO, count me in, sounds great.
  10. Hi Jay - saw your original post and was amazed by all the replies and thoughtful suggestions. I've had the low back problems for around 30 years, usually laying flat with ice will help after a couple hours of ice, no ice, ice, etc. Some episodes have been worse than others. Early December one eveining found me trying that routine to no avail, just could not move without pain or get up higher off the floor than my elbow. Made my first trip in an ambulance at 2 AM, couple days in the hospital etc. For me, in my mid-50's, I have become desparate to avoid or limit this as much as possible. Started physical therapy again, and started walking (treadmill at the local Y) as many have suggested, planning to work towards light weights as next stage of therapy, etc. The orthopedic doctor I have seen a couple time want me to eventually work towards a conditioning program so I can get the muscles able to carry the load. Too much sitting in my case, desk job, etc. I guess I would encourage you as some others have, to try to get into a rehab, therapy program, the sports oriented programs seem to be the best. Hope you can get to a "minimal pain" time period so you can get hooked up with a good program, hopefully thru school. Hang in and hope things start to even out for you! Larry
  11. Thanks! The Omnimount site does have lots of good data, thanks for the link. The Klipsch data sheet (web based) shows RS-35 weight at 9.6 pounds. If you have yours mounted with the Omni-mount series 10 brackets that locates the insert size on the speaker. I was hoping to use a bracket rated for 20 pounds for a safety factor and/or if I upgraded later to a different surround speaker, but apparently those threads will be too large for the speaker insert.. Someone else had this problem a couple weeks ago and wound up stuck with a set of the 20 pound brackets they had bought on-line. The adapter Omni-mount shows is confusing, not really anything that gets the 20 pound bracket threaded shaft to the speaker insert size for the RS-35. To use the 20 pound bracket I would need a custom adapter with female threads to accept the larger 20 pound bracket threads and male threads on the other end to mate with the speaker insert. The adapter would probably not look very cool compared to the bracket hardware. Good to know the 10 pound bracket works, at least I have a path forward if nothing else pans out. Thanks again.
  12. Navigating the Klipsch site I came across a review from 1969 for the Cornwall II. If you're interested: Klipsh Home Page - News Center at top of page - Reviews - All the way at the bottom I've never heard these speakers, the article is very favorable, and also notes where "Cornwall" was derived from. They are described as a center channel for Khorns. Was the Belle designed as a standalone speaker/set of speakers or did it have a similar mission?
  13. Can't help you on your comparison question, but can you tell me how you mounted your RS-35s? I have been trying to find someone who knows the size of the threaded insert on these speakers so I can research speaker brackets for them. Any info on thread size? thanks -
  14. Exactly! These are still new, unopened, need to match thread size with available mounting brackets and then sell wife on using them versus selling them (ouch) and buying in-walls (ouch - ouch). Having the thread size for all applicable speakers on the product web page spec sheet would sure be great. Omnimount stainless steel 10.0 post is best info so far. My tendency is to go for a bracket that holds more than 10 pounds since these weigh just under 10 pounds, but then the bolt size changes. Not much margin with a 10 pound mount. Wonder if a threaded adapter exists, smaller threads into the speaker with female threads to accept larger bolt from bigger bracket? Has anyone mounted these using the keyhole slot? Seems I saw rubber feet on the back when I checked the product spec sheet the other day. Keeps them away from the wall? Brackets seem like they would give more flexibility for tilting, etc. Also thought about setting them on shelves, brackets still seem like a more versatile solution. Any thoughts appreciated!
  15. Does anyone know what size bolt fits RS-35 surrounds? Bought a set of these awhile back and never mounted them, need to research brackets that will fit and hold their weight.
  16. I have a set of RS-35s, new, unopened boxes. After initial agreement on going with them, wife now favors in-wall for rear surrounds. The RS-35s are the match for my RF-35s and RC-35, should have mounted them right away! Could probably get away with mounting them, but may be easier to sell them and keep the peace. St. Louis area if you want to PM or email me.
  17. Well, I posted this originally on both the 2-channel and home theater forums, not sure that was such a good idea but I did get a good mix of responses, all very much appreciated. As noted on the 2 channel forum, I'm sticking with the Denon 1804 and the RF-35 system for now, easier on the family situation this close to the holidays. Someday it would be good to hear RF-7s with a capable amp and decent room acoustics. I've put them on my wish list for future upgrade/possible home theater. Till then what I have is quite enjoyable. Thanks everyone.
  18. Thanks everyone for the inputs, final analysis on my end for now was to hold with the RF-35 matched system and the Denon 1804. It is entirely adequate to my ears with my existing system. Everything (speakers) match and it's all paid for! I am still concerned with the RF-7s regarding the amp power versus the low impedance drive, but final straw was timing, crazy holiday season, extra stress at home with unplanned major audio purchase, you get the picture. If/when I do move to the larger reference speakers it will be with a more powerful amp. Heck of a deal on those RF-7s, though. Sub decision is still pending, may be easier to work on the home front since I have laid some groundwork for that addition. Thanks again for the responses.
  19. My Denon is an 1804, less than 100 watts per channel. RF-7s are on sale thru Wednesday, price is each, so around $1600 with tax. Verrrry tempting......
  20. Price is each. Comes out to 25% off retail if I remember correctly. My main issue is that I'd have to sell entire RF-35, RC-35, RS-35 system. Wonder if wife would notice the larger speakers if RF-35s just sort of disappeared...... very tempting! Sale ends Wednesday, any more inputs on amp power (solid state)? My Denon is an 1804.
  21. Yes, seemed high, good news is they have RF-7s on sale for $750 each, bad news is I already have a complete 5.0 system matched to RF-35s....... mighty tempting to switch over to the bigger towers, put some posts on 2-channel and Home Theater about any issues driving the RF-7s with my Denon receiver. Decisions, decisions!
  22. Went out looking at subs last night and found RF-7s new for $750 on sale, which seems like a good deal. Currently have surround components matched to my RF-35s. Have a two year old Denon 6 channel receiver, model 1605?? 1805??, I think it's 70-90 watts per channel. Do the RF-7s need a tube amp to get good response? I've read posts regarding big impedance changes across frequency and some implied limitations on using solid state amps. Anyone have experience with these speakers with solid state similar to mine?

  24. Went to American TV and Electronics after work to demo the RSW-12. Wow, it is a big cabinet, not sure I can find the space for it in my current setup. They have it for $1299, with lots of other speakers on sale, but not this one. They have the RW-12 on sale for $475, but I believe some posts have said it lacks the punch of the RSW-12. Anyway, the sales guy was nice, but played some acoustic guitar and acoustic base CD, hard to tell what the sub was doing or how everything was setup. Guess to adequately demo these subs you almost have to come with your own CDs and DVDs, and be permitted to tune up the receiver settings and sub settings. I will say the 12 inch speakers sure looked impressive, I can imagine what the RSW-15 must look like. On anothe note, I stopped in Ultimate Electronics, they no longer show the RSW-10 or -12 on their web site, and they were also missing from their floor models. They do carry the RW series of subs.
