  1. Hi All! My plan is to build a pair of Cornscalas. I've gathered all the parts. Now I just need to build the cabinets. In the meantime I need to store the K-33Es. What's the best way to do this, face up or face down? Or does it matter? Martin.
  2. The Chinese 2A3s that came with my Bottlehead kits had a nice blue glow. I replaced them with Sovteks. I really like the sound of the Sovteks but sadly they don't glow like the Valve Arts. It's mainly about the sound though, so the Valve Arts are in storage. Martin.
  3. Here's a site that is supposed to have all the UK releases listed. http://www.jpgr.co.uk/ I know I've seen books in the bookstore that have the info you want but I don't own any myself. All my Beatle books are text or photos about the beatles themselves and their music in general. I don't have info about particular releases.
  4. I don't have a link for you but I found an article in the Oct 1994 (#108) issue of Fine Woodworking. I got it from our library. Haven't had a chance to delve into it yet. You're public library might have a copy.
  5. Have a look at this thread. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=54990&sessionID={6BB06606-EBA9-4C2B-A939-B46AEE022FB7} The title is Let's Build a Driver Test Box.
  6. I don't know anything about these but if I had 2 grand and the right sort of corners ... I don't have either. http://austin.craigslist.org/ele/82036622.html
  7. I've swaped cables and tubes side to side with no change. I'm pretty sure its in the left side speaker. I'll try to get some time to open it up tonight and check all the internal connections. Thanks for the input so far!
  8. I'm experiencing an odd problem. I've got 1980 Heresys hooked up to Bottlehead Paramour monoblocs and a Bottlehead Foreplay preamp. The pre and the amps are unmodified. There is normally very little hum, a little, but not much. I hadn't listened to this system lately for one reason or another. I got a chance to listen this weekend and found more hum than I'm used to. I shut everyting down and checked all the cables and tube sockets. It still hummed. I pulled the grills off the Heresys to try to get a better listen. The hum seemed to be comming mainly from the left side. I gently tapped the cone of the woofer on the left and the hum dropped down to the very low level that is normal for this system. It didn't come back during that listening session but returned the next time. Again, gently tapping on the left woofer made the abnormal hum go away. Anyone got any ideas about what's going on here?
  9. I checked and although it is in both channels it does move if I run the left channel of the pre though the right hand monobloc and vice-versa. I tried playing the CD on a couple of other systems and I can hear the distortion. It is not as easy to hear on the other systems but it is there. It must be in the recording. That makes me feel better. I've found that it is one thing to read about how a speaker or system sounds and a whole other ballgame when you're sitting in the sweet spot with the music pouring over you.
  10. Since I got my new (to me) Heresy's hooked up to my Foreplay/Paramour setup I've been playing different things from my collection to see how much different they sound. For the most part they've been much better. The Heresy's are so much better than any other speakers that I've tried. On the first track (Grandfather's Waltz) of Getz/Gilberto #2 I'm getting some distortion that makes my woofers buzz. This is particularly evident on the left channel. I haven't found another CD yet that does this. I'm wondering if it is the recording. I don't have the LP so I can't check that. Has anyone else heard this in their system?
  11. I have to point out that David Allen Coe's songwriter friend was Steve Goodman a.ka. Chicago Shorty.
  12. You may also want to clean the tape monitor switch(es). When the channel drops out try switching the tape monitor on and off a few times. If the channel comes back you've found the problem.
  13. I opened up one of the tweeters last night. One of the fine wires between the diaphragm and one of the poles was completely gone. Vaporized I guess. I thought about trying to solder a fine wire in there as I've read can be done. I think I'll replace them instead. Thanks to everyone who pointed me in the right direction. Martin.
  14. I just bought a pair of Heresy Is at a local thrift store. At $40.00 for the pair I just couldn't pass them up. I got them home and hooked them up to my Bottlehead Paramours. The woofer and midrange seem to be working fine but both K-77-M tweeters are silent. I'm new to this type of speaker so don't assume I know anything. What should I check first?
