  2. KG4's my friend ... the year is stamped at the bottom of the binding posts...
  3. Im sure it'll be around after the summer ... **UPDATE** 07/06/12 I've sanded with some 220 grit and put a nice coat of Tung Oil ... WOW what a difference!!! The water mark is gone! 07/06/13 I've sanded lightly with some 320 grit ...smoothed it out more ... and put a second coat of Tung oil ... looking good! Another coat is scheduled tomorrow before work ... no sanding this time ... and maybe another Friday if i have oil left The grills are still a little stained ... im wondering what i can use to clean em besides water and a bit of soap ...? AND ... the Badges came in the mail yesterday (one day shipping) ...and they match EXACTLY!!! So im guessing Krazy Glue would work? ***Photos will be up soon ... the wife lent me the digicam but the battery is spent ,,, and she kept that darn charger ***
  4. :EDIT: Problema solved ... Micron Canada called me today and said they found the badges i needed tucked away in some corner My Lucky day ... we traded info on the phone and they should be here tuesday or wednesday...
  5. They truly are "Rock and Roll" speakers... I think i almost had a religious experience today ... listened to a "new" song today (if i aint heard it...its new to me) "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf WOW..... 'nuff said!
  6. Receieved an email from LaToya Torrance (Klipsch), she says that they sell for 3.42 US --> 3.63 CAD (Not bad... our dollar is at a 30 year high ) She says THEY have to ship it to Micron Canada (about 10 days) ... and then i arrange payment with Micron and MORE shipping to my house ... :S Im glad im not rushed I musn't be the only Canuck who orders directly from Klipsch, so if this is the way it goes... i guess we hafta go by it dont we? :S --> Buck: Thanks for the offer, but id really hate for you to go through all that for me ... ill do it the "regular" way ...
  7. So, apparently living in the Great White North is a problem with Klipsch in Arkansas. Youse guys do not ship to Canada. :S BOOOOOOOOOoooooo JK I was told i have to deal with the Canadian reseller ... http://www.microncanada.ca/ ... I just emailed them earlier, i await a response because i was all about ready to buy the parts directly from Klipsch. They came to less than 3$ each ... i hope the reseller doesnt jack up the price and triple the shipping ... :S *crosses fingers* But ... the KG's sound GREAT! I was listening to some old school Elton John last night before sleep (SACD quality) , and at low volume it sounded awesome! I cant wait to put on something with alotta bass, crank those puppies up and hear those 12'' passives come alive! Thanks for all your advice y'all! Pat P.S. Project: "Speaker Restore" begins next tuesday with light sanding
  8. Yeah but.... i dont think he'll be selling it anytime soon ... so maybe in a few months ill take him up on the offer. SOooooooooo.... purchase MADE!!! Cabinets were a little more knocked up than advertised so he knocked some off the price ... good deal all in all i guess.... my first time dealing with cragslist and second hand buying has been positive... Pro's : Price seemed reasonnable (to me ... vintage Klipsch isnt too available in these parts :S) I bought new (old) Klipsch Kg's are nice and hefty ... vintage is awesome! The cabinets look almost salvageable and cones and passive woofers are undamaged They sound sweeeeeeet Con's: Cabinets are more damaged than i originally thought They dont have the serial number "paper" on the back anymore ... totally ripped off ... only the staples survived They're the 1984 model ... 4 Ohm impendance Vs. 6 Ohm *** One of the front grills LACKS the copper Klipsch logo*** I know its stupid but this one is the most dissapointing :( Can anyone help me on how to get new ones ? Lesson learned: Well...maybe its a lesson i WILL learn ... ima gonna learn how to sand and refinish these speakers!!! I want these Babies to look good! But first i need to know how.... Any gurus out there with links to any DIY sites with some info? Thanks in advance and i appreciate all your comments! Pat P.S. I already got the wife frowning at me with this new hobby Ill have pics up as soon as i can borrow her digicam ...
  9. Just spoke to seller a few minutes ago, he's a teacher at a local highschool i often deal with and seemed quite genuine. So far things look good! We spoke for a bit, he even offered to sell me a HK tube amp to go with it for an extra 150$ :S Sadly its out of my budget right now ... He's delivering tomorrow evening straight to my door ... ill keep you guys posted and take some pics of the damage (watermark) as to maybe you guys can help me out on how i could fix it ...

What to y'all think ... this person lives about 10 minutes from my house ... a good buy? http://montreal.craigslist.org/ele/345095586.html would these 6 Ohm speakers run well with this 8 Ohm Amp i have ? http://www.harmankardon.com/specifications.aspx?cat=REC&ser=∏=HK490I&sType=H Any details or insight/advice would be nice .... Pat P.S. Please dont anyone snipe em away from me.... They look real nice.....im planning on emailing the guy tomorrow....
  12. I wasnt aware it was Peace Officer day in the US of A ... in Canada we celebrate it the last Sunday in September ... I still consider myself new in this profession (3 years in August)but i love it more and more every day! It's an awesome job, I do it because i love it and i have plenty more years ahead of me ... Thanks for the kind nod y'all ... it's nice to hear good things about us for once RIP to all my Brothers and Sisters who've passed while on or off duty ... RIP Valerie Gignac and Daniel Tessier ...
  13. Wow..... i was pretty much decided on the Marantz 8001 because getting seperates was WAY outta my budget..... but reading this makes me want to wait a little while more to see what the new Marantz 8xxx series has to offer....
  14. WOW for the Anthem Audio tho.....their stuff looks nice ... and they have a dealer near my house in MTL.....thanks a bunch!!!
  15. Personally, im a big time movie buff ... but i also like to crank up the music. Im thinking of seperates because i dont want to have to buy a new high end reciever once a new technology comes out. So by just changing the Pre/Pro, ill be able to enjoy new HD audio Codec's (and newer future ones) comming out without having to dish out big bucks to get them in a AVR WITH good power. I figured 7.1 is enough to last a while (how much surround can we fricking NEED ) And 125 WPC should give me better performance that the less than 75 i have now on my AVR..... Thanks for the Canadian nod up there, ill check out those Mississauga amps, maybe it'll be cheaper on delivery and no mooney to convert!!! So... hopefully a "Lower" end AVR be fine as a Pre/Pro...... im not made of money ... im young and blue-collared and enjoy's his Movies/Music Personally, im thinking of the HK 245 ... but i guess used would be a better idea.... None of these upgrade are for the immediate future sadly (ive gotta collect my money and i still live in an appartment and will blow open the walls if i get new stuff now) but i appreciate all the input and opinions youse guys have throw this way!!! Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.... i still have to figure out which SUB i wanna add also....... the RW8 just odesnt cut it!
  16. Thanks so much for the info people!!!
  17. I you can see by my system specs ... i haven't the greatest of AVR. BUT..... i have been doing some research and i have a plan on what im going to purchase next... well sorta Here it is .... im thinking of doing the "Seperates" route ... My MAIN goal is to be ready for the future. So when FINALLY affordable HD/BD DVD's come out i can just switch out the Pre/Pro for a compatible one and have great sound because the Power Amp won't go out of style. So...... i have an Amp lined up ... i was thinking the Outlaw Audio 7125 ... it's125 wpc @ 7.1 .... (how many WPC do you guys REALLY think this one put out when it's running 5.1 ?) But i dont have a Pre/Pro ... id LOVE to use the AVR i already have as a Pre/Pro .... BUT it lacks 5.1 direct (or more) output. So..... is a designated Pre/Pro NECESSARY? Because they look expensive!!! Or can i fill in the void with a cheaper AVR with 5.1 (or more) direct output? Does it necessarily have to be a high end Pre/pro? Or will it sound fine on a Marantz 4001/5001? EDIT: How would an HK AVR 245 act as a Pre/Pro? Opinions? Recommendations Please!!! PS. Im not sold on Outlaw Audio ... i saw their prices and i figured they were reasonnable. If any one else can recommend me a good brand im ALL ears!!! It's just hard to find prices and places that sell Power Amps... especially in Canada. (Anyone know of a place in MTL?) Ebay and Audiogon dont always ship up here so those are kinda crossed off my list...
  18. I have an RW8 and im not overly pleased with my bass... for some reason it doesnt "kick" in at the right time .... i dunno why. I notice it in scenes that requires a subtle amount of bass...... the sub will kick in halfway though like it was sleeping... wierd eh? I think my sub isnt configured all to well....... but the thing is... i dont know how to set it up properly!!! What the Heck does a Low Pass dial do? What aobut the other dial ... with the 0 degrees, 90, 180 etc..... Can any one help explain things and help me get the most out of this "puny" sub ..... **extra info Crossover set to 80hz ...all speakers to "small" ... sub connected from LFE out on amp to RCA in on SUB (proper cable used)**
  19. Im afraid there are no screw connectors (except for the FM and AM radio) ... only binding posts and RCA jacks .... so it might not be a twin power model. (I also looked inside today and didint seem to notice two power supplies, my father had a 430 Twin Power) But bare wire is always an option, being a novice i though that proper connectors made a better connection and therefore better sound... To live and learn!
  20. Well....I bought some electrical cleaner and dared to open the Stereo ... The thing was PRISTINE inside ... NO DUST at all ... i even gave it a few shots here and there and there was no dust to be seen. So i removed the volume knob, sprayed the rear binding posts, spared the part that the knob seemed to hide and exactly on the other side of that on the inside of the amp .... Man was i scared cuz i didnt wanna "F" anything up ... So i put the cover back on....screwed a screw in ... and plugged it in ... WORKS *whew* Plugged some speakers in and ..........WOW... the "static" noise when i raise or lower the volume appears to have dissapeared by about 95% ... Its not perfect but WAY acceptable now ... THANK YOU ALL for your Advice! *********************** NEW QUESTION ********************** I cannot seem to fit "normal" banana plugs into the binding posts as i can do with my Denon 1505 ...i find it kinda wierd ... are there different types of banana plugs? Is there a special interconnect available that hooks up well with binding post, other than banana plugs ? because they dont seem to fit on mine... ive tried and pushed but theres no give ...im sure if they're supposed to fit they'd go right in ... Thanks ahead of time
  21. Pray tell.... what exactly is contact cleaner and where/how would i apply it?
  22. Well, the girlfriends' aunt was looking through her old stuff and suddenly my eye caught a box that said "Harman/Kardon". I asked her what she was doin with that one and she said "Oh, we dont use that one anymore, you can have it if you like!" I took it and RAN like a Bandit Its a HK 940i ... circa early 80's i think ... so far i havent tried it out very much ... i know the FM radio works because i hooked it up to my RS 25's ... Sounds ok! So far i have found one minor ( yet somewhat major) problem ... for some reason one of the channels have "static" in it ... when i adjust the volume level ... i can hear static from the left channel ... which sucks ( i tried it on both speaker "systems" A & B ...still static) My question is .... ... has anyone ever had this particular Amp? And honestly ... is it any good? Is it worth the trouble to having it brought in to a local hi-fi repair shop and probably spend ~ 60$ CAN to have it look at? Is the quality of this "vintage" equipement worth it? Any help and insight would be appreciated.... Thanks PAt A.K.A. Lex (FYI ... i live in Montreal, Quebec)
  23. Wow, Thanks for the Reply Gang! I got the system i bought because i was on a budget and i had to have it when i moved out. Had i known better, and with the knowlegde i have now ... id have gotten at least a RF35 Matching system ... So.............WHAT Receiver would you guys recommend that has SUSTAINED power, and not DENON power ... ? How does the Marantz SR7500 look? (105 WPC ) Any other suggestions?
  24. I bought a "beginner's" kit last February: RF 15's main's 100 Watts RS 25's Surrounds 75 Watts RC 25 Center 125 Watts RW 8 Sub Denon 1505 Amp 75 WPC Regular Sony DVD Player (Digital out ...DTS....Component) When im watching movies or even listening to music... i sometimes feel unfullfilled. Like i feel my system should be better. The dialogue isnt often as loud as id want it to be.....the mains often overpower them. The Surrounds dont seem to make me feel "Surrounded" ... they arent that loud ... What im wondering is: Is my amp strong enough for my center or my mains? Am i getting the best possible sound? If i got a new amp If i got a 100 WPC amp .... would it damage the Surrounds because they are only rated at 75 Watts? If i got a 125 WPC amp ... could it damage my surrounds and my mains? I need a little info on what these speakers need for power and how much power they can take without damaging them. I HAVE been looking at a Marantz SR7500 or Denon 2106 or even a Yamaha RX1600B ... but will these amps make my speakers "sound" better? I have also considered that maybe the SOURCE is the problem ... as in my DVD player might suck the big one... so i also wondered if that would get me a better sound. (Denon 1920 maybe?) Last year i kind of bought this whole system blindly ... thinking i knew what i needed. (The Sales Reps's were little help) Did i buy a totally mismatched system? Do i need new components to get the best out of my system? Anyone have advice for me?
