  1. Glad to hear you sealed them, and it seemed to make some difference. No, they are not LaScalas, or CWa or KHorns, but for their size, the Heresy gives 2/3 a KHorn's performance..... (Famous Klipsch ad)....... [H] Good Luck!

  11. Moderator, please remove double posts... Thanks.

  13. Yes, this works. If you use high quality MP3s (320kbs); the sound quality is very good..... And sounds very nice. My .02...... Good luck.....

  15. I believe PWK's vision was to make a speaker which responds "flat", no brightness, no boomy bass, or bright highs...... Just accurate. I would say that most Klipsch speakers today acheive this; some more than others..... That being said; marketing does come into play, and many of the newer models were made and marketed for different segments...... I wish I had room for CWs; I am envious.... Your point about our ears adapting to the speaker is valid; I just think it is somewhere in the middle of the 2 theories...... ( Part us getting used to the speakers; part the speakers breaking in when new)......
  16. I do believe that we get used to how a speaker sounds. I also believe that speakers return to the "equilibrium". I just believe that once a speaker has been in use, it quickly "warms up" (lack of a better metaphor) to the good sound it produces after initial break in..... minutes instead of hours. I also redid my Heresy caps, and saw improvement after hours.... initially, it was quieter than the old caps. (I did one speaker before the other; to compare). 4 months later, and the improvement is real..... I do not believe everything can be measured, and yes, different people hear things differently. But if my GF hears the difference in my computer speakers after "break in" (non audiophile), this goes quite a ways towards validating what I am hearing.......
  17. This is a highly debated topic. I am one who believes there IS a break in period. I have seen it with many speakers... (including 2 pair of Promedia 2.1s). I trust my ears. So..... If I had a pair I ran for 1.5 years; and then quickly changed over to the new set..... and began listening at the same volume...... (all other factors being the same).... why did the new ones sound much more bland? Now 6 months later, and both systems sound amazingly good for their size..... (Do not hold a candle to the Heresies though)......
  18. Yeah, The control pods are not that much $, but it kinda sucks that they can go bad. Have you tried wiggling your DIN cable? (you might be able to verify that is in fact the issue by doing so)....... Good luck.....
  19. I have 1980 H1s. I would reccommend what another poster did; set your bass contour to flat. In stereo (2 channel), I have been able to make the whole apartment shake. (I had to double check that my sub was not active, it was not). I will add some (+2db) bass contour if listening at low volumes; but otherwise I run them flat, with a bit of midrange cut down(-3db)..... Also, if you make sure the backs are tight (I used weatherstripping before reinstalling), you will not need to add so much bass..... It made a big difference! All this being said; it is possible yours have been driven very hard and could benefit from new woofers...... Good luck....
  20. Back in the day, I had an alpine detatchable face deck in a 79 Trans Am. I had no back speakers so I connected it to 2 bookshelf speakers (do not remember the brand, but had 8" woofers and ferrofluid tweeters and were 8ohm)..... These kicked some arse, for being speakers in my back seat with no amp..... Yes your deck will work; however the SS1s are just like my SS3s design wise. They may not sound so great for music...... (Great for HT though). Good luck.
  21. Yes. They may not sound so great for music, as these were designed for sound dispersion. (I have the SS3s)..... Anyway.... good luck.....
  22. How old are your speakers? (Are they still under warranty?) Is it possible your sound card plug is loose? (the green one). On a related thought.... is your sound card seated properly? Also, is the sound on your computer enabled? If none of these suggestions help, it sounds like you may have a defective amp....... (It is hard to say without being there.....) Good Luck.....
  23. Well, I got 'em. After some light sanding and oil; they look gorgeous. They were in better shape than I thought. They sound harsher than my H1s; but I suspect the right amp/receiver will rectify that. Bill; thanks again.....
  24. Bill, thanks for the replies...... Unfortunately; the seller pulled the bait and switch. They were in fact KG2s, in good condition, but not great. Anyhow, I am thinking these might be nice for the bedroom...... $85 may be worth it, but am debating.........
