  1. Let me toss Willie and Lobo's Caliente into the mix. Two wonderful muscians that play what's been described as Flamenco Jazz (Spanish guitar and Violin with some help from their friends). As a bonus this cd is in the XRCD format Originally Tower Records carried them in the World Section but now for some reason the're under New Age. Caliente sounds so very sweet on my Kg 3.5's. (Their other cd's are great to except for Puerto Vallarta Squeze which is a compilation) Have to second Concerete Blonde. Seen them in concert three times. All their sutff is great, lyrics, voice(beyond belief powerfull), guitar etc.
  2. Try Tower Records and online go to www.acousticsounds.com they are loaded with dvd-a and Sacd from all the better labels.
  3. You have several choices. My first suggestion is to download the latest version of Mozilla, it's a super great browser, free no ads, and you can set the level of pop-up blocker you want. Go to Mozilla.org and download version 1.6. Open source sotware developed by computer enthusiasts and is based loosley on the old but great Netscape browser. Google's also a good choice, and I think the latest version of Windows Exploer has one. Also almost every major portal (Yahoo, Aol etc.) now provides one. The other thing to check is for a virus, update your virus definitons and run a scan. Also a spybot can really slow down a computer. Download and run Lavasoft Adaware 6.0 www.lavasoft.com (free no ads). Finally, if you're running Wndows XP enable the firewall, even if you have dialup. If you don't know how to do this pm me and I'll walk you through it. One other thing and this is for everybody on the Forum suffering from spam. Download SpamPal(free no ads) and the Help section to go with it(two seperate downloads). SpamPal's a little tricky to configure but once it's up and running it will drop about 97% of spam into a seperate folder. I've been using it for about three months and it has caught over 3,500 pieces of spam!
  4. Hey Gary I'm up for it! Let's work it with a game. See how the Orioles are doing this year. You wouldn't happen to have a couple of tickets to the O's/Yankee matchup would you? (heh, heh, heh) Hodogs are on me! Chuck, I'm glad for your counterpoint on the tube amp questions. Especially since I just dropped five bills on the Denon. I gotta tell you guys that I love the sound stage and dynamics from the Denon but I'm having some harshness problems, a lotta sss"s from my female singers with current setup despite setting delays, test tones setup with sound meter, fiddiling with base and treble, placement etc. I'm hoping the kg5.2's will solve that problem. Well I'm at it has anybody been listening to Cyndia Lauper's At Last. Love a lot of songs on it, and her voice is incredably powerfull yet controlled but it's still comes accross as harsh.
  5. Jet, Consider me to be on the hunt! Thanks
  6. Thanks guys, but the forte were sold before I could get to them. Bummer, but I compensated by purchasing a set kg 5.2's. Sounds like I have a tube/amp in my future. Any other suggestions (lower price range) besides the HK? My apologies Gary I must have been dropped on my head a few times as a child. Don't need a switch because I have an a/b switch already on Denon. Duh! I may have lost out on the Forte's but I strongly suspect that I'll be climbing the speaker upgrade ladder down the road. Who knows maybe there's some Khorns in my future.
  7. Have an opportunity to buy some forte 1's in the DC area, but I am wondering how they match up with a solid state receiver. Many on the forum advocate running these with tube amps but I am currently running a Denon 2802 reveiver and will not be changing it out anytime soon (recent purchase on close-out). Right now I have a timbre matched system with Kg3.5's for the mains, a kv2 center and kg 1.5's in the rear. Aside from above if I get them should I leave my current setup in place and use the forte's for music only? With only one receiver that's a bit of a hassle. Well Ht is great, but my primary focus is on music. Would have posted this on 2 Channel but that's restricted right now. I AM NOT, REPEAT NOT, trying to send this thread off topic, but I am hoping some of the 2 channel guys have migrated over here and will be of assistance.
  8. Thanks TauRus and DrPyro. I quess I was just mainly throwing this out there for informational purposes, but it's good to hear there will soon be more choices out there for universal players. Basically all I had been running accross on the low dollar end was the Pioneer player which has had decidely mixed reviews. TauRus, I guess you missed my part about a beer budget. While I drool at the thought of dropping a K or 2 on a high end SACD player it would probably be overkill since I'm running Kg 3.5's (kv2 center, and Kg 1.5's surrounds-Denon 2802 receiver). Following the advice of many of this forum I think my big bucks will go towards the mains even though I love my Kg 3.5's! DrPyro, your thinking on SACD parrells my own. After all when we go to a concert we only bring two ears with us. However, a couple of people I talked to who have these players say they add an extra dimension to the music giving more of a feel of being in a concert hall. One likened it to moving from the tenth row to the first row. This got my attention and peaked my interest in finding a reasonably priced quality SACD player. Thanks again guys, this is my first thread. It's nice to get the feedback.
  9. Been looking for a good SACD player on a beer budget. A press release on the Toshiba web site informs me that they have two new players coming out that are SACD and DVD-A compatible. A single player (SD4960) is due in June with a list of $180 and a carousel (SD 6915) is due in May. These were previewed at CES in January. Did anybody get to try them out? How do you think they match up with Klipsch?
  10. I'm interested in the Quartet's but first a question: I'm currently running a pair of kg3.5's, a KV2 center and kg 1.5's for the rears with a Denon 2802 receiver. I have never heard the Quartets, although I have heard good things about them. Would the Quartets be an improvement over the kg 3.5's? Mind you now, these kg 3.5's are very clear but can sometimes be a bit harsh even after playing with the treble. I'm trying to upgrade to champagne on a beer budget. PS I'm live in Northern Viginia and could come by an pick them up saving you the shipping hassle. Thanks
