You can then switch between either pair. You also have connections for a pair of surround back speakers (you CAN use only one) which is usually a monopole. Most people seem to use a speaker identical to their front center speaker. The thread you spoke of didn't even resemble a debate. The other party never allowed me to present my opinion in a manner that could be understood. I understand his psyche, as I work with bull$hitters of even higher caliber daily. I'm convinced that most people haven't a clue as to the purpose of a surround speaker. Keith ---------------- Hi Keith, You said some people only use one speaker for rear center. I have a Denon 3801 and would like to know which terminal to plug into if I'm going to use one rear center speaker. Thanks, Mike
  2. I would like to thank all of you for all the helpful input at this forum. Special thanks go to STL for being patient with all my noob questions. With all your help, I now have a killer HT . KG 4.5 mains, STL's lone KG 4.2 at center, KG 4.5 rears, SVS 25-31 sub, and all run by a Denon 3801. With the addition of the Hitachi 57 S700 on Friday, I now drive home from work a little faster. I don't know what's more fun, the journey to get everything, or the actual destination. Now that I have everything, I'm already starting to think of getting a Pacific Yurt and setting up an HT with KLF 30's. Oh well, ya gotta be addicted to something. Now it's time to calibrate everything. Some of you recommend a setup disc from Video Essentials or Avia. Any other suggestions? Thanks once again, I gotta run, the wife and kids are out of the house, I have to watch something loud while I have the chance, Mike

My question is this - are SVS subs ONLY available as resell or direct from manufacturer? Seems so, just trying to confirm. Thanks! Popbumper ---------------- Popbumper, You are correct. SVS is sold directly from the manufacturer or resale. That's the good news. No middle man, better price. My friend, major audiophile, introduced me to SVS. At the time he was running 2 SVS cylindrical subs and the house was a rockin'. I bought my SVS 25-31 CS+ a little over a year ago and I love it. I found mine used at www.audiogon.com in the classifieds. Also try the SVS website and see if they have any "B" stock available. The price is good on those if they have any. Good luck, MLH

I just ordered the same Model, same size. Can't wait. Delivery is taking a while but the price was right. Any advice? Mike
  5. It's time upgrade so I would like to purchase a pair of Forte's or Chorus II's. Please let me know if you have any you would like to part with. Thanks, Mike
  6. Hi, Do you still have the speakers for sale? Mike

Going from KG4.5s toKG 5.5s will only get you a little more bass and only 1dB more efficiency so it's not really worth the effort or cost. I have debated this before so you might want to search old threads. I have KG5.5s as mains and made myself a custom center (using the horn from a KG5.5). I also wanted to let you know that that I have a long KG4.2 for sale. What is your HT setup like? You might be able to modify it and use it as a center (much like Redtop did) -- or for a few extra bucks I might modify the motorboard for you! FYI, in case you didn't know the KG4.5 and KG4.2 are 95% same speaker. They both use the same horn tweeter and a 10" woofer, it is just the older KG4.2 is in a smaller enclosure and uses a passive radiator for venting whereas the KG4.5 uses a port for venting (but sonically you wouldn't know the difference). Let me know if you are interested and I can email you some pictures. One more thing to note, both the drivers in my KG4.2 are already video shielded and the passive radiator has been replaced with a port. BTW, the C7 might be a decent match at center but it pale in comparison to using a KG4.2, 4.5, 5.2, or 5.5 (which all share the same horn tweeter). ---------------- Hey STL, Thanks for the help. I like your advice. My HT setup right now is pretty basic. I have a KV-1 Center which of course I would like to upgrade. My problem is I have a terrible room to work with. It's a big open space that includes the kitchen and living room and has high ceilings. So if I take your advice on modifying a KG 4.2 like you have, where do you put center speaker? Do you lie it on top of the TV? What does a "long KG 4.5" mean? Let me know how much you want for that speaker too please. Do you have any suggestions as to how much I should pay for a set of KG 4.5's or 5.5's? I'm looking to get a new TV, a Hitachi 57S700, so I would like to get some more cool Klipsch speakers. The rear speakers I'm using now are some old things that were given to me, so I definitely want to match everything properly if I can. Look forward to your input, thanks, Mike
  8. Very, very cool theater. Mike

I used a KV-2 with a pair of KG5.5's for years and it worked pretty well. I later bought a KLF-C7 and while it sounded OK, the C-7 overplayed the 5.5's, and was difficult to match well with the 5.5's. Klipsch built the KV line of center speakers for the KG's. I recommend those, although there are others that you could try. Good luck to you. Keith ---------------- Thanks Keith. I currently have a KV-1. Is there a significant difference between a KV-1 and a KV-3? Also, how much should one pay for a KV-3 on Ebay? Mike
  10. I'm new to the world of Home Theater and it seems like many of you on this site are quite experienced. I bought some Klipsch speakers from a friend who was upgrading his system and now I would like to do the same. I have a pair of KG 4.5's as front speakers and a KV 1 for a center. I'm thinking of finding some KG 5.5's to be the fronts and using the 4.5's as rears. Also would a KLF C-7 work well with this set up or would there be a better way to go? My receiver is a Denon AVR 3801 and I also have an SVS 25-31 subwoofer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Mike

    kg 5.5

I sure appreciate all the good info on this site. I'm expanding my HT and would like some input. I have a pair of KG 4.5's that I'm using as fronts. I'm thinking of using them as rears and getting a pair of 5.5's for fronts. I'd like to replace my KV 1 with a KLF C-7. Would this work? My receiver is a Dennon AVR 3801 and I'm using an SVS 25-31 sub. Thanks, Mike
