  1. Good Evening All, I just want to start off by saying thanks to Raptorman for the compliments, I had a great time on Sunday listening to some fine tunes. I am currently using a pair of rf-35's with my Shanling STP-80 tube integrated. I upgraded the cheap tubes that came with it to a quad of new Mullards. I am very happy with my system. It has warmth and excellent imaging. As Raptorman stated on Sunday "the speakers disappear". I use to have my Heresy's hooked up to the tubes but they lacked the bass IMO. I traded the rf-35's from my wife's system and i have not looked back. The bass is deep and rich, not sloppy at all. I am very content with my set up and I can definitely say that the RF-35's sing with my tube amp (35 wpc). I hope you get your set up to where you are as happy. Delano
  2. Mr. Songer, You have a PM. Thank You all for your responses. I will let you know if I pick up any Blue Note's or other good vinyl. Delano
  3. Good Evening, I have the chance to purchase some early pressings/first pressings on the Blue Note label and was wondering what I should look for to authenticate. I have over 100 Blue Note reissues on vinyl and now I want to take the next step and go for the real deal. What should I look for? I know this is hard but what are the price ranges for these beauties? For example: Herbie Hancock - My Point of View early pressing, how much? I would really appreciate your input. Thanks Delano
  4. Good Evening and Welcome, I had been using my trusty Heresy's with my new tube amp and thought they sounded great but still lacked in the bass department. I had recently bought a second system for my wife which consisted of a brand new pair of RF-35's ( newer version of the RF-3's). One day I figured I would switch out the speakers and try the RF-35's on the tube amp. All I can say is WOW, the bass is extremely tight and they sounded amazing with the tubes. Now I must say that I am and have always been a big fan of the Heresy's but I had to be honest with myself and go with the better speaker for MY ears and I stuck with the RF-35's. Just my two cents Dealno
  5. Raptorman, You have a PM. Sorry for the delay. Delano
  6. I have been going through a ton of records in the last two weeks and have found some amazing stuff. Max G, I have been seeing many early Decca, London, Mercury and Columbia pressings. Even though all of the records I received were classical I made some interesting discoveries which would interest the jazz fans. On several records on the Vox label I noticed that the sound engineer is none other than Dr. Rudolph Van Gelder a.k.a. RVG of Blue Note fame. I have been thoroughly enjoying some fantastic performances on vinyl. I especially love hearing mono pressings with Maria Callas in her prime. It will take me quite a while to get through all these new records but i will keep posting updates to any interesting finds. Delano
  7. Hello all, I scored big time this weekend. I went to a friend of a friends house for a new years party last week and noticed a large amount of vinyl. It turns out that the owner of the house inherited this large collection ( 900 +) of records from his dad. I asked him what he was going to do with it and he wanted it to go to a good home. So I went over this weekend to look through them and pick out a few. As I started I could not believe what I found. Mint condition classical recordings from the 50's and sixties and mostly mono recordings. There were some of my favourite operas as well as symphonies, needless to say it was overwhelming. The owner approached me and asked me if I wanted the whole lot and to make him an offer. I only had $200.00 dollars on me and I told him that, he replied "sold". So here I am with over 900 classical recordings along with my 400+ jazz and rock collection. I guess I am definitely back into vinyl. I will definitely need a record cleaning machine and a turnatable upgrade. Mr. Max G I will definitely be posting some of my finds as the weeks go on and asking for your opinions. It will take me quite a while to go through all of these. Delano
  8. HEY CTP JUST MY TWO CENTS. I HAVE THE SHANLING AMP PAIRED WITH HERESY'S AND I AM DEFINITELY NOT LACKING IN THE BASS DEPARTMENT. WAIT UNTIL YOU GET THE AMP FIRTS AND TRY IT OUT WITH YOUR RF 3'S, YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED. i HAVE RF3'S IN MY SECOND SYSTEM AND I TRIED THEM OUT WITH THE SHANLING AND IT WAS PRETTY GOOD. i FIND THE BASS I GET WITH THE HERESY'S IS DEFINITELY NOT BOOMING BUT VERY TIGHT AND ACCURATE. I LISTEN TO MOSTLY JAZZ AND SOME ROCK. THE ACOUSTIC BASS SOUNDS VERY REALISTIC. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY SET UP, I WOULD'NT CHANGE IT ONE BIT. GOOD LUCK WITH THE AMP AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. DON'T LET ANYONE PUT IT DOWN BECAUSE IT WAS MADE IN CHINA, YOU WILL SEE WHEN IT ARRIVES THAT IT IS ONE NICE PIECE OF GEAR. DELANO PS. WHY IS THE POST IN ALL CAPS?
  9. Good Day, Well I am the proud owner of an stp-80 and I love it. ait has blown me away with it's very non-fatigueing warm sound. I am very surprised that you want this amp. A short time ago when I posted that I was having problems with mine you made it clear that "not to bash your choice, but Chinese amps will always break". Those ar your words. I am not trying to start an issue here but I was wondering what made you change your mind. I would reccomend the shanling without hesitation and I hope you do get it. Delano
  10. Good Evening, I was wondering if you guys could help me decide if it is worth changing the Ortofon om -5e cartridge on my Thorens Td145 to a Grado Black or Red. Will I hear a difference? Is it worth the money? The Ortofon is still in good shape with not too many hours. Thanks all Delano
  11. Hey, I bought a used Thorens td145 MKII and it is in mint shape and built very solid. It has some weight to it. I spoke to a audio guy at one of my favourite shops and he told me that this table came out about 20 years ago or so and with a half decent cartridge would compare to a 1-2 thousand dollar new table. It is just incredible. I am in love with my system all over again. Delano
  12. Sorry guys, I was just going to say that I hooked up my new Thorens turntable and vinyl is simply amazing. I am loving the soundstage and that magical warmth. Dealno
  13. I just hooked up my new Thorens turntable and wow! I did not realise how much I missed that vinyl sound. It so open and warm, I think I have a new hobby. Delano
