  1. Lisa, In my opinion, they will not need those replacement diaphragms put into them. I bought them 'working' but he didn't know if they had 8 or 16 ohm diaphragms in them. I also knew since I was buying them sight/sound unseen, I only has his word that they were working fine (they were). I bought the 8 ohm versions 'just in case' even though by ear, they worked and sounded PERFECTLY fine in my system. I recall reading somewhere that they've discontinued the 2404 and my peabrain said if they've stopped making the drivers, then after a while, they'll stop making factory diaphragms. I remember reading that the JBL brand (supposedly) sound better so I just figured I'd get them and put them in. I never got that far. Also, if in fact I've got after markets in there, I can't imagine the factory brand sounding TOO much better as these tweets sounded pretty nice as it was. They have clearly been replaced at least once though. The rear cover is gone. I had Al's extreme slope crossovers and I have zero idea where I had these set. Memory tells me I had them on the same setting that I used for the Klipsch tweeter because I had a spade connector there and I'd simply swap back/forth every now & then to get a side by side comparison. For ME (and I'm no where near as critical listener as you might be) the JBL's won hands down. The only reason I mention I've got the replacements is *in case* I were to part with them and someone were to find an interest in them, they might want the replacements too (for possible future use). I had no idea the replacement diaphragms were as expensive as they turned out to be.
  2. front view. I also have a pair of EV ST 350-A's (with the round enclosed back) but they're installed so I can't take pic of them
  3. Not going to be a stock fit, here's some side by side shots
  4. Good, Mike got a pic of the back. Here's the tag indicating wattage.
  5. I stand somewhat corrected...I went back to read what he said and it was NOT that the 402 was the SOTA. He made a comment that another horn was NOT the SOTA. my apologies
  6. I certainly don't have anything constructive to add to this thread as it's all WAY over my head. With that said, I do however, seem to recall Roy saying something to me once about the K402 being the state of the art. I might be in error with my memory though so Roy, if you read that and I'm wrong, don't send me the bones from your (bbq) ribs.
  7. I don't know what you're networks are and how they'd work although I'd guess they'd work fine? As for the stock squawker, I had stock in MINE and it sounded fine. I've (passively) thought about selling them. At least one person (speakerfritz) has expressed a passing interest. Don't know if he still has it. I ALSO have brand new (in the box) 8 ohm diaphrams to go with them. These are genuine JBL and not 'aftermarket' versions The new diaphragms alone cost something like $180. I wanted to be sure to have 8 ohm, JBL brand avaialbe to me so I ordered them. You can email me, pm me, or call me at 888-531-0715. If I'm here at work, I'll answer if not, it'll ring off hook lol.
  8. Lisa.. I've got a pair of JBL 2404 "babycheek" tweeters that are sitting around. One thing about this hobby of ours is sometimes to try something you gotta pay for it FIRST and if you don't like the change, it can become an expensive experiment. If you'd like to listen to the JBL's, I'd be happy to box them up & ship them to you for an audition. Your only expense would be to ship them back. When I had my Khorns, I put in Al's extreme slope networks and put the JBL's on top of the Khorns. Simply sitting on top, out in the open with no baffle or anything for them. Sat them on top like you might sit a coffee cup. The 2404 tweeters were the SINGLE most telling change I made to the Khorns. For me in my room, I really liked the difference and one reason is a table occupies my "sweet spot". Since these have wider dispersion, the sound filled out the room a lot better. I was able to dinker with their output using Al's crossover. I don't know how you're setup. I was going to do the trachorn thing too but that darn 402 jumped line!!! So, if you would like to try these, send me your address and I'll get them out.
  9. I don't know if it means for the bass bin ONLY or if it is intended to mean for use when in the 3 way mode, but if memory serves me correctly, there is a sticker on the bass bin that says 1,200 watts max. I'm at work but would be happy to take a pic of that when I get home and post it to verify. Just hung up with the wife. She eyeballed the bass bin for me and the tag says 8 ohms, 1200 watts
  10. Meagain, at home I've got some pics of the K402 horn sitting on the floor and you can see the back side of it (with the K-69 attached). I thought I had copies of them here and I don't. I'll post one later when I get home if you want. Each driver has a fancy little wrench stuck to its underside!!

  12. Well Mr. Parrott... TECHNICALLY, both groups of people are getting their highs out of a TWEETER!! Yes, it's true. Perhaps you are unaware that in the 2 way version, they drop the tweeter HORN but keep the tweeter DRIVER (K69), they also drop the midrange DRIVER but keep the midrange HORN, mounting the TWEETER driver on the MIDRANGE HORN!!! So both groups are hearing tweeter sounds, from tweeter drivers. Got it Tweety? []
  13. Most residential listening rooms won't accomodate 300 people??
  14. If I remember my measurements correctly, the K402 is actually LARGER (in length/width) than a LaScala. Meaning, sticking a 402 on top of a Khorn would take up MORE space on the X, Y axes than placing a LaScala up there laying on its side. I was measuring to the outside dimensions of the 402 but none the less... subtle it aint!! However, GOOD SOUNDING, it IS!! When you put the 402 on top of the Jubilee bottom, it doesn't take any more side to side space since they're close enough to be identical. Dean, I'm glad to hear you might actually SAVE some space by going to the HUGE Jubilees... ironic huh?
  15. Mark, I don't know the first thing about actives other than how to fumble and insert paramaters in the one I have (numbers supplied by Roy) I'm emailing a spreadsheet to you so you can see the different 'tweeks' it has inside. I've got NO idea if and what other actives can do that stuff. I know you don't have a dog in this fight so if you don't care to waste your time looking at the spreadsheet, I understand. I thought you might gleen something from it, relative to the one you indicated to use above.
  16. Sorry Cupcake... I think Mark got it right. I DO have the dbx amp which you're aware of. I ALSO have a dbx 5bx and a dbx 14/10 eq which you might NOT be aware of and both of those are plumbed into the tape loop of the Peach (although I rarely use them, hence his comments)
  17. Do I understand you correctly in that you're saying if I have "nothing" attached to the tape in/ tape out jacks I'll have "X" signal going through the system. If I change it though and attach something to the tape loop jacks BUT the item is turned off AND the tape selector is set to SOURCE, that I still might get a lag on signal strength??!!! I would have NEVER expected that!! Good... you can bet I'll give that a double check and see if that makes a difference. Follow up question though, wouldn't it make reasonable sense that if a dead unit (turned off) and tape selector set to 'source' sapped signal strength, that if I had the tape selector set to TAPE and I had the dbx unit(s) (there are two of them) turned ON, that I should regain that gain? If that logic is reasonable then I'll make comment that there is no noticable gain with the dbx units turned on and selector set to 'tape'. Regardless of your answer, I'll certainly give that a try. After all, it WAS you who figured out the DC feeding back out the inputs on my OTL amps causing other issues, all based on an innocuous statement that I thought was unrelated. You sure you're not Sherlock Holmes reincarnated? [Y]
  18. Ain't that the truth [H] Sometimes it's just impossible to quiet the idiot inside of me.
  19. Mike, You are right in that Mike did bring his Behringer over. It was the Behringer that he used to discover (verify) the mode and get a feel for how big/dramatic it was. By happenstance, it was right at 90 hz. I do not recall how tall (?) or strong it was. He knocked the 90hz down and the room sounded a lot better right off the bat. As luck/happenstance would have it, I had a dbx 14/10 eq in the closet. I pulled it out and slapped it into the tape loop of the Peach and the eq happened to also have a slider at 90 hz. I knocked it down several db's and all was well. With that explained to you and before anyone else jumps in on something else being in the food chain, I might add... today with the Jubilees in there, the muddiness that we heard at 90hz is greatly reduced by having the Jubilees in there (as far as the ear is concerned). Because of that I typically do NOT listen to anything with the dbx unit in the circuit. Yes it's plugged in in case I choose to turn it or the connected 5bx on, but as a matter of daily listening, those just sit there idle with their power turned OFF and the tape loop of the Peach set to source. The Behringer never was part of my system and is not today. He took it home that same day.
  20. Shawn, you are absolutely right here. The Jubilees are far far FAR better behaved in the room than the Khorns were. I've got a much better sweet spot, the 90hz node I had (with Khorns) is either not there, or more likely, simply not as noticable (ie, better behaved??) I'd not be bashful to recommend the Jubilees to anyone who owns Khorns across the board, based on the improvement I've heard in this room. I'll bet no one has figured that out yet huh?!! []
  21. I'm not taking any offense to anything you've said here or prior. In fact I'm more fearing that maybe I'm doing a poor job of describing my situation. This XLR stuff is 100% new to me as of several months ago and I'm meandering my way through it. I DO have great sound from the Jubilees. They WILL play loud, clean, clear and with punch.
  22. Mark, the reason I'm using the Dx unit is primarily because it's the one Roy/Klipsch use. I knew nothing about these things and if I used the same one Roy used, I knew I'd be able to ask him about a question regarding its use. The SE-OTL amps are now gone (presuming those are the ones you refer to as the beautiful amps). They WERE the most delightful sounding amps I think I ever heard on my Khorns however, they only had 4 wpc when bridged. Here I am crying like a baby only getting 10 watts into my HF horn and those only had 4 total... I don't know how many my bass horn is using. The OTL's simply did not have enough power for me although for within their range, they were probably the nicest sounding amps I've ever heard. I sold them PRIOR to getting the Jubilees. Had I not done that, I'd be trying them in the system to see if they'd take care of my lower listening level desires. Given that they're gone (prior to me even thinking on buying the Jubes), I HAVE thought about purchasing a pair of them again. I emailed Rozenblit and he suggested I might look at their bigger brother. I've debated on getting both sets so I could try them side by side. If I did that, I'd be buying 2 OTL's so I could bridge them and probably a single OTL 16 or what ever his number is for the next one up. Part II I can turn the volume knob up to get 6 db more gain...until I run out of volume knob!! [] Let me ask a question... is it reasonable that if I in fact had something wired weird, I'd be getting 'funky' sound, rather than simply less volume? Meaning, I once had a RCA/XLR cord soldered wrong on one of the ends. I had a hum. I found that wire, fixed the incorrect solder and hum went away. Remember... I've now had 11 forum members over (and one forum member wife) to listen to these. NO one has found any 'funky' sound. Interestingly, no one has really gotten into cranking them as loud as I might, except for Dale who came pretty close!! Surely with 11 forum members over, if there was something funky sounding (there isn't) they would have noticed it? It might be the wrong tool... might be my ignorance, which I think is more likely.
