  1. For you Forum Member DIYer's I've got some K-Horn Bass Horns for sale. They are made from 1/2" MPF glued and nailed. The joints are sealed with 50 year rated silicone. The Bass Horns shown in the pictures were built for a Forum Member in Cleveland. On his advice, I am no longer including the 3/4" removable motorboard shown in the pictures. It turns out that the bass performance is enhanced by mounting the Woofer directly to the front panel. Thanks for that John! The price is $800.00 a pair, plus shipping.
  2. Al, Will this affect the price of A Series kits you have in stock?
  3. Yes the the new tubes work in two of the five sockets but not in the other three sockets. But the old tubes work in those three sockets.
  4. I just got my first tube amp. It's a Fisher X-100 that I got off a guy on Audiogon. I hooked it up to my homemade K-Horns and the sound is great. However, I started looking at the 12ax7 preamp tubes and noticed that one was a Russian tube another was Chinese and the other three were unmarked. So I decided to buy a set of EI Yugoslavian tubes from a guy on ebay. When I plugged these in three of them didn't light up. So I took the two EI's that worked and plugged them into the sockets where the other EI's didn't work. They didn't work there either. Why do the old tubes work in those three sockets and the new EI's don't? Don
  5. Allen, Come to think of it, I've got one of those 70's versions of Exile stashed away. I'm going to dig it out and see how it compares to this new recording, although I know it's going to have a bunch of pops.
  6. One of my favorite rock and roll albums of all time is Exile on Main Street by the Rolling Stones. Back in the 70's I probably wore out three copies. Recently I picked up a RTI HQ-180 remastered premium vinyl pressing. It sounds terrible. I can't even listen to it. I'm listening to it on hybrid K-horn which have K-33 woofers, 511-b horns with 902 drivers, Beyma cp-25s and ALK networks. Why is it that Exile sounded better on our old Pioneer cassette decks driving around back in high school than on my big ole horns?
  7. I think the thing to do is just cut the baseboard on the wall to fit the bass bin.
  8. D-Man , There's something that I didn't think of at first that kills the idea of adding the back panels to the bass bin. They would cover up the access door to the woofer. You wouldn't be able to get the woofer out. Don
  9. D-Man, That's a great idea. The only thing is shouldn't the back pieces extend all the way out untill they intersect the plane of the front of the cabinet like false corners? Don
  10. D-Man I think it's a great design too. If by outer panels you mean false corners yeah I'm working on a design. Got any ideas? Don
  11. I just bought a Kodak easy share camera. I can e-mail pictures just fine but for some reason I can't get them to download on the forum. I even tried burning them to a disc and downloading from that and it didn't work. When I was using Irfanview I didn't have any problem at all downloading to the forum. Ideas anyone?
  12. I just got done with these a couple of days ago. They are constructed from 1/2 MDF glued and nailed. All joints are sealed with 50 year rated silicone. I'll take 800.00 for the pair.
  13. I'm working on my third set of k-horn bass bins. I should have them done in a couple of weeks. I'm not going to be able to keep them so if anybody around here is interested in purchasing them drop me a line. I would imagine they would cost a small fortune to ship so local pick up would be best. I'm in Wilmington NC.
  14. LaScala on steroids. Thats a good way to put it. Are you going to do yours as two way using only the 511-b on top? When you say positioning options I assume you mean making the top section so it pivots. Thats an interesting idea. What I was thinking on mine was to build the top section with the tweeter on top of the 511 making the cabinet about 6 or 7 inches higher than a stock Lascala.
  15. Tigerwood, Go for it! You'll love the sound no matter what you listen to. How about this, for my next project, I'm thinking about doing a center channel hybrid Lascala with a bass bin section that looks like the new Lascalas with one inch sides and top with a seperated top horn section (like K-Horns) that will house 511-B horns and EV St-350 baby cheek tweeters.
  16. Last year I built a pair of hybrid k-horns using k-33 woofers from Bob Crites, Altec 511-B horns and Beyma C-25 tweeters. At the time, I was going to use the 902 drivers that came with the 511-B horns, but after posting on the forum several members stated that the 902 drivers might not work at the frequencies that the mid-range is crossed at in k-horns. I went ahead and got a pair of Atlas drivers from Bob Crites and installed those instead. The concern about the 902 drivers was that at high volume levels the phase plugs might blow. After several months of listening to the speakers, that by the way sounded great with the drivers, I noticed that according to the output meters on my McIntosh amp even at high volume I wasn't pushing more than maybe one watt per channel. Recently, I figured that since I wasn't putting that much power through the speakers anyway I might as well go ahead and try out the 902's and see how they worked. Man, oh man am I glad that I did that; they sounded so much better! The imaging and detail are incredible!
  17. What are you going to do with the Planet? I might be interested.
  18. You're right I should ask Al. I thought that when he originally installed the 811s in his Belles he was using the ALK A series networks and then later switched to ES networks. But then I also thought the K-55 was an 8 omn driver. Shows how much I know. Thanks Don
  19. Can I use Altec 806A 16 omn drivers with 811B horns with ALK A series networks in a Belle?
  20. Thanks guys for the help. Still no luck. Don
  21. dragonfyr, I've tried that one already. For some reason I was unable to download the file. Thanks anyway,Don
  22. Does anybody out there know how to find a user manual for a ADC LMF-1 tone arm?
  23. Soundog, First off, the bass bin kits would, I think, go for around $1,000.00 shipped for a pair. Hey, if what you want is used K-Horns that's cool. What I'm aiming for are DYI's who want to do hybrids from the ground up. The speakers I'm listening to now have the regular K-Horn bass bins with K-33's. On top I have Altec 511-B Horns with Atlas drivers, Beyma Cp-25 tweeters and ALK Engineering designed crossovers. Don
