  1. Ok, in regards to this Crown D-75A I'm getting, I have been told by David Glass at Crown that this amp does indeed put out a thump durring turn-on/off. My question is this... Other than using relays, I have been told that I can use a capacitor in series with the 902-8B for about a 400Hz rolloff @ -6dB per/oct which should keep the driver from being damaged. If so, what size cap should I use, a 50uF or 62uF? Also, should I run a fuse inline with the 902 as well, and if so what size? The drivers VCs read 6.1 and 6.7 ohms. Thanks again for everything,Charles
  2. I am trying to get a straight answer about this amplifier on the Crown forum, but I guess they feel it isn't an important enough question for them to bother answering, so I figured I'd try here. I have received one rather vague answer from a member here which didn't help me any either. I did a search for this amp several days ago on here and know there are quite a few members here that own either the D-75A, D-75 or D-45, so I'm hoping someone will chime in here and help me out on this. All I am wanting to know is if the speaker outputs on this amp go through relays first, as to not pass any kind of thump or power surge to the speakers when powered on or off. That's it. The reason I need to know is because I have one on its way here and I plan on using it to power my Altec 902-8B drivers directly via a Rane AC 22B. IOW, I will NOT be using any kind of passive filter between the amp and driver. However, if this amp sends out a thump or power surge durring turn-on/off, I'll end up damaging (blowing) the Altec drivers the first time I power the amp up, which is something I do not want to do, AND cannot afford to do. Anyway, if you guys/gals could please give me a helping hand on this little matter, I'd greatly appreciate it! Many thanks in advance, Charles
  3. Nope. That's the only list, and was the only driver. I revised the list after it was sold.
  4. So no more takers on any of this stuff? Just checking before it goes the way of eBay. []
  5. Since I am switching over to an active, bi-amped, 2-way system, there are a few things I no longer need. I have to sell this stuff in order to fund the upgrades. The digital Behringer DCX2496 crossover I'm getting has 3 inputs and 6 outputs, so I'll be bi-amping the center channel as well, which means I need to buy myself another matching Altec 902-8B driver, and that I will no longer need the HF drivers and network for the center channel. Everything listed below has been taken well care of, is in "like-new" shape and will be packaged properly so it arrives the way it left my hands. Feel free to check out my Feedback on eBay (chopsrr). It speaks for itself. All prices are firm and INCLUDE shipping with insuruance via USPS to anywhere in the lower 48 states. No international sales. Sorry. Anyway, on with the toys... 1) BEC Custom Cornscala II crossover network - $90 3) Selenium ADF25-25 adapters (modified for Altec 511B/811B) - $4.50 each 1) Sammi Sound SH-150 bi-radial horn (includes 2 Eminence APT-3 adapters) - $16 1) Pyle Pro PH2380P horn (similar in sound to K-400 squawker horn) - $17 2) Aura Sound AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shakers - $70 for the pair If you have any questions, please feel free to PM or email me. I forgot to mention, I accept PayPal only.
  6. Honestly, I have no clue, but I'm willing to bet the EV is a much better unit over the Behringer. I'm not saying the Behringer is bad, but I have heard that there are plenty of improvements to be made on/in it. Not to mention that the EV is roughly $1k more than the Behringer!
  7. Hi Michael, Yeah, I saw that you're getting ready to sell some PA gear and that you're wanting to tri-amp your LSI splits. And I always wanted to buy a Rane but could never afford one before. I also plan on buying a Rane Balance Buddy BB 22. That way, I can take the unbalanced -10dBV output of my Pioneer Elite receiver and convert it over to +4dBV balanced which they say guarantees noise/hum free operation with proper grounding. Also, a friendly word of advice... If you haven't used that Crown DC-300A in a while, you may want to have it checked out before using it. I have been reading quite a bit over on the Crown forum and see that there are many of the older DC-300A's developing uncontrollable buzzes and hums due to some of the caps falling out of spec from over the years. Pretty much the same thing that happens to the Klipsch Heritage networks. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up! [] Charles
  8. Sounds to me like a loose connection inside the speaker. Try opening it up if you can and check the connections going to the tweeter. I'm will to bet that when the center channel is "boxy - muffled" sounding, the tweeter is completely dead. When you physically moved the speaker over to your left channel, the connection got moved just a bit to make contact, then once playing lost connection again due to vibration.
  9. Here's to a little friendly bump. []
  10. Totally unrelated to this thread, but I just sent you a PM. Back on topic, I thought that's what I heard about why they stopped making the CWs to begin with. I didn't say I knew for sure. At any rate, if not, I stand corrected and I'm definately glad they brought them back into production. []
  11. Items are going pretty fast! 2 CT125 tweeters, 2 Pyle horns and 1 Atlas squawker driver SOLD! Thanks guys! [] Still have lots of goodies left. Just check the updated list above in the first post.
  12. Shawn, Do you know if there's a stand-alone "delayed" relay unit that can be had for such an application? Tom, Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't even notice that until now! Dang, back to square one.
  13. Hi Shawn, Thanks for the input! The amp I plan on running on the Altec drivers is a Crown D-75A. On their site in the "Datasheet", it says... Turn-on: Minimum thumps. Power-on is instantaneous with no program delay. Do I assume that that means there is no relay switch on the outputs? If so, I guess I wouldn't be able to use this amp on the Altecs? That's going to suck if that's the case. I have read something about possibly using capacitors or relays to resolve these blasted thump issues. Any thoughts on that? As for the crossover slopes, I'll probably just use it at -48dB. I plan on running all three front speakers off of this one crossover if I can. Maybe later on, I'll play around with getting to higher rate slopes.
  14. No. Why else did Klipsch discontinue the Cornwalls back in the early 90's? Lack of sales? That's what I remember hearing.
  15. Bob and whamo, you both have a PM. []

  17. I wonder if they purposely set the CW III's up in a better room than the Khorns to try and boost sales for the CWs. We all know the CWs never had as good a track record as the rest when it comes to overall sales.
  18. Hi Shawn, In the near future, I'm going to be buying a DCX2496 so I can bi-amp my system and get steeper crossover points and a lot more flexability, and better sound quality. As it stands for now, I'll be using my father's old Technics SU-8099 amp to power the K-33s (115 watts per channel) and I have a Crown D-75A on the way to power the 902s (35 watts per channel). In one of your older threads http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/1/657888/ShowThread.aspx , I see mention of elliptic filters at rates of beyond -200dB per octave, sometimes even more I think. Anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me a few things about the DCX2496, such as sound quality, how quiet it is, the various EQ settings per output and how you're doing these elliptic filters with it. Any info you could share will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Charles
  19. Now would any of this apply to my current setup? Since I'm running the Cornwalls as bass bins, the K33 driver is right on the front baffle (motorboard). However, with the 511B horn, the 902 driver is over a foot back behind the motorboard, so wouldn't that already naturally correct a little bit for the time alignment?
  20. Actually, I'm partial to that natural wood look. Looks like it had a rather nice and smooth finish too! Oh well, to each his own. [] Either way, this project and your work looks great! Charles
  21. see attached Ah ha! I see. Thanks Fritz! []
  22. Sorry guys, I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but I do have a couple questions. What's the difference of the Jube bass bin over the Khon bass bin? Is there any reason why one is better than the other?
  23. Fritz, Yes, I already know all of this. []
  24. Yes it is and no I'm not. []
