  1. That is crazy, it seems to be an off-hand of saying the person you report to holds you accountable. Why was he upset about that?

Pretty nice way of demonstrating to the boss that that the Big Stew Man Rule was unworkable. It also reveals how in many organizations if you have a way of getting things done, you end up getting everyone's job done.

Put yourself down for a raise.

  2. He was certainly the master of satire.

The center panel depicts so many taboo subjects for that time, miscegenation, sodomy, same-sex relationships, etc.

The center panel was always the most thought provoking to me. Is he suggesting this is the paradise on Earth if there had been no bite of the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge? Or is it depicting the moral decay because of it?

Fendi had to most certainly have been influenced by him.

  3. Here is another list I have seen over the years:

    "T.H.I.N.K. before speaking...

    Is it True?

    Is it Helpful?

    Is it Inspiring?

    Is it Necessary?

    Is it Kind?

If not...probably best to keep your mouth shut."

This is a link to a discussion on the accroyacronym in Inc. magazine.

    http://www.sermoncentral.com/sermons/think-before-you-speak--sermon-body-larry-wilson-sermon-on-tongue-159447.asp.

A website discussing the acronym with biblical citations is support thereof.

  4. Recently, a highly regarded 4th grade teacher with around 40 years experience told her class that the tooth fairy isn't real and that it is actually the parents/grandparents who leave the money under the pillow. Well, a girl went home and told this to her mother who was outraged because she has always told her kids that the tooth fairy is real. The mother then went on social media sites and bashed the teacher for destroying her child's belief system, contacted the school administration to demand an apology, and went to the newspapers with her story. I'm confident that a law suit will follow (NJ has so many frivolous law suits that it's a joke, except for those who have to pay since juries here award damages as if they are candy). What is wrong with these people? Of course, these same parents are usually the ones who, on a gorgeous sunny 75 degree day, drive their kids the 100 feet to the bus stop so their precious little ones don't have to be exposed to the elements or interact with other kids. Sorry for the rant. I'll leave now............

    Maynard

Now remember that my mother is a retired 1st grade teacher with her doctorate in education and a masters in guidance counseling and my father is a retired school superintendent of the second highest operating budget double AA School system in the state at the time and past president of the County board of education.

    Roger,

In my book, people like your parents are the real heros of this country. I wonder what their view would be on issues like charter schools, vouchers, mamdatory minimum skills assessment tests, etc. I wonder is they have differing views on some of these issues, on being an administrator, one being a teacher?

  5. There have been a number of threads in which I wanted to participate but did not because of the nasty level of personal comments made by a few members. I won't subject myself to that kind of B.S. If an individual can't be locked from that kind of thread, the mods don't have much choice but to lock the thread itself .....that is if this is to remain a civilized forum. Darn shame that a few can't or won't tolerate differing opinions.

It is understandable why you feel that way, I think many reasonable people here maybe feel the same way and, from what I read, part of the reason for Mike's post.

Which makes it one of the saddest posts I have read on this forum.

  6. I agree, I have so much I would like to say on the matter. But I don't think The KLIPSCH FORUM is the place to say it. Klipsch has this forum to be informative to those inquiring about their product. There are some very intelligent folks on this forum that provide the data and technical information that people are needing. Yes we take it past Klipsch product, which I don't think is minded, as long as it doesn't turn into threads that you speak of.

As long as we can be civil about things, the rules can be bended. Once things get out of hand, then we need to resort back to following the rules. If that fails, then more rules are usually implemented. Which could make this a dull place, I don't want to see that happen.

If Paul was around and came on the forum and started bashing people about their intelligence I don't think I would stick around. Nor do I think I would care much to continue to purchase his product. Is it entertaining? Sure, is it Right? Not here, I believe there are other forums it could be taken to.

    Just my 2 cents.

I think this is very well said.

Paul fancied himself a "gadfly" and it appears he was certainly willing to engage anyone and everyone on issues he was passionate about, whether it be his pastor's sermon, the audio "establishment" or anyone else.

He used satire, as in the case of his article about a combination space heater/amplifier. He was so accustomed to misinformation he invented the first analog tweet, the Bullshit button.

I only know him from his writings, and a great number of anecdotes from those that knew him personally, but I don't recall him ever having to resort to personal attacks to make a point.

  7. You (or anyone) can PM me if more appropriate....

Looking to see (and obtain if you have) ever designed a passive for a K402 atop a LaScala?

    How's about a K510 on a LaScala?

I'd like to obtain a copy of the diagram if they exist.  (I'm guessing with the K69 on the back)

Now the million dollar question.....have you done the same with the TAD-4002 on back? (both the 402 and 510)

    ??

To my knowledge, just the Jube. He has debunked a couple.

Wait, he has designed an electronic analog crossover, but that isn't passive.

You going to use it for a center? Are you running your Jubes passive these days.

I would want to know what the time delay is on all of those configurations first befor I looked at passive.

As I recall, Bob has designed and tested a passive for a Jube Scala, but I cannot remremember which horn. Is it for in front of screen or behind?

  8. I once paid to watch Mike Tyson.

I think the fight lasted something like 90 seconds. I felt as though I was royally ripped off.

That soured me enough that I doubt I'll ever pay to watch a fight again.

Not sure which Tyson fight you saw, and some of them were really bad rip-offs.... but you can thank Don King for the majority of them.

But you should never buy a PPV fight because you want to see it go the full distance or dragged out... on the contrary, spectacular knockouts against worthy opponents are what makes memorable matches.,... and during his prime, Tyson was "King" of the spectacular knock-outs. No one since has filled the void he left behind.

After Don King took complete control, he milked the Tyson name for money, matching him up against chumps, just for a Don King Promotions payday.

Here's Tysons WBC championship winning fight, Berbick was suppose to be the one to teach the new kid on the block a lesson. It wasn't a first round knock out, but a second round destruction of Berbick.

The kicks-into gear about 25 sec. into the link.

I was in the 3rd row for that fight, Tyson hit Berbick with a left hook so hard in the temple I thought for sure he had killed him.

Tyson was 28-0 as a pro if I remember correctly, 26 by KO, and the number one contender. He became the youngest Heavyweight Champion ever after that fight. He would go on the following year to beat IBF Champion Tucker to unify the title and becoming the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, the previous was Spinks in '78.

Spinks was the Lineal champion, whom Tyson would fight next, crushing him in 90 seconds.

You can hear those shots when you are there, they are loud beyond compare.

  9. I agree with you Mike

I do not understand what is so hard about figuring out whether something is a personal attack or not. It is pretty easy and doesn't require a consensus or committee to figure it out does it? Or maybe it is who is making the attack, or whether the attack is serious enough to warrant sanction and that requires a consensus? Why does it have to rise to the level of an "attack"? Isn't it enough that that the argument turns personal?

Don't punish the thread, warn or punish the offender, and do it out in the open so everyone can learn from it.

I think if you want to correct the behavior, instead of locking the thread a moderator should just quote the offensive language of the poster, call it like they see it, and advise them that future transgressions will not be tolerated.

That serves 3 very important purposes. First it tells the offender what is unacceptable so that if they are normal they can correct their behavior.

Second, it tells other forum members what is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Lastly, when the general public goes through a thread they can see that this is a place for reasonable discussion and debate. Believe it or not, this adds credibility to the forum as a whole.

Short of that, Klipsch should provide an incentive system for mods to give out warning points. First one to 500 points, or whatever, gets a free pair of speakers. I am of course kidding about that.

I think Thad should undelete those posts, and point out how each one was personal. Better yet, create a private forum where forum members can watch Craig and Dean go at it, no holds barred, and sell tickets to it and use the money for a worthy cause. You can have matches about topics like cables, tube v. SS, high money parts vs. Cheep parts, all ot the topics that devolve into personal attacks. Tonight is perfect, offer up round one right before the fight. Five bucks a head, you will get at least 50 guys, that is 250. Everyone votes for the winner.

    On second thought . . .

  10. I just traded in my 2010 BMW 528 for a 2015 Ford Flex. I did it because i want to quit working and start the proverbial endless road trip -- the Flex has enough room for me to sleep in and to carry a guitar or two. I’m in NO WAY an expert in this area; but, here is something to think about. I got it for $289 over invoice--tells me there that (1) the dealer lies about the invoice; (2) they’re going to make the lion’s share of their money elsewhere.

Enter the extended warranty and service plan.

I tried to get 50% off the extended warranty; but, ended up with 25% - 30% off. So, don’t forget to negotiate EVERYTHING.

Now, there is a holiday coming up, so there will most likely be some sales and/or promotions. With your negotiating, special offers from Ford -- you may end up with a favorable deal. Plus, i’m guessing the 2016 models are coming soon and they may want to get rid of the 2015s on the lot.

Just remember, this is a business. I’m all for getting a deal; but, i also support a fair deal. You surely can’t expect the dealer to take a loss.

(I storm chase on the side).

Regardless of what kind of car deal you score -- you’re the coolest guy on the forum. I’m a HUGE fan of extreme weather and have wanted to storm chase for years.

    Good luck man,

    Steve

I think you are wrong on that Stew man, I think this is the coolest thing I have ever seen posted:

"I did it because i want to quit working and start the proverbial endless road trip -- the Flex has enough room for me to sleep in and to carry a guitar or two." Makes me want to pull out On The

However, the storm chasing "on the side" sure did did catch my attention.

  11. I wonder what the shipping charges might have been...or did they get in on a free shipping deal?

How much does it weigh? It costs $10,000 per pound to ship to the ISS.

  12. And I'd beg to differ with Mark on the subject of illegals being "critical" to our economy; I don't see it that way at all, not even close; but then, I'm not an expert, I only grew up surrounded by illegals. All along the border towns, I'll agree, yes they work cheap, not relatively cheap, but dirt cheap. However, once they get past the BP (border patrol) check stations, it's bye bye discount labor. Our yard man wants $120 to take care of our yard. Just him and another guy. From the time he arrived, to the time he was driving off the property, it took him 2.5 to 3 hours max. And we wanted to hire him twice a month. My wife tried hiring his wife to help clean the house, she declined, said $50 bucks wasn't enough for 1/2 a day, she wanted $100.

You asked about California, not Texas. If they aren't critical in Texas, that's no argument against mine. I said they were crucial to California's economy, and they are. We have the largest most productive agricultural area in the country and it will come to a screeching halt without Mexican labor of all kinds. We build houses by the hundreds of thousands and that will also come to a screeching halt without Mexicans. It's not my opinion, it's the considered opinion of all economists who study the California economy. Even Reagan admitted they were indispensible. Remind me, how long have you lived in California?

Gee, I'm real sorry your yard costs $120 to service. Mine is only $75.

    Mark,

A lot of us just don't find California's bankrupt economy or water problems a concern for us.... To many Gays and Communists for me to care if the big quake happens and you all drown to be brutally honest with you! I think the book is already written on this Country's economy and it is very capable of collapse in October despite your concerns for illegals or your bankrupt state...

    Roger

You had better care, if California goes BK it will drag the entire country with it. The SDP of CA is larger then the next 3 largest SDP states combined. CA's SDP is five times that if Ohio. If it gets close the the brink, you, and everyone else in the country will pay to bail it out. Ohio keeps slipping in SDP, 7th a few years ago, now below North Carolina at 9th. It will continue to slip because a major portion of the SDP is tied to the auto industry.

In other words, it will never go BK, because it will either turn around or it will get bailed out, gays, communists and all. It isn't going to fall in the ocean either, LA and SF keep moving north because they are on a different plate, but nothing is falling off into any ocean.

Why do they get bailed out? First, because it is too big to fail. Second, CA has political clout. 10 percent of the House, 10 percent of the electoral college. If they need a bailout the CA deligation can politically demand one, and they will because they will be gone if they don't. It would be greatest bipartisan effort ever seen in this Country. Republicans, Democrats, communists, independents, gays, whites, Hispanics, blacks, Asians, all working together, hand in hand to get a bailoit.

Lived in CA first 26 years of my life, only met one communist, Angela Davis, but she had switched to socialist party, so that probably doesn't count.

People in the Midwest are just going to have to get over the gay thing. They are in every state, every city, every school, always have been, always will be, it is just a matter of how open they are. There are two types. In open communities the ones you knew were gay anyway will talk about their partner. In closed communities they marry for apperances and sneak around any chance they can like that senator from Wyoming who got caught in the Minneapolis airport bathroom trying to solicit some sort of sexual act from a male UC vice cop.

Instead of worrying about gays, communists, conservatives, liberals, the tooth fairy or whatever else, I feel we would have been far better served if that time had been spent in figuring ways for US manufacturing to inovate and stay ahead of the game like we did with chip manufacturing.

  13. The Venetian and MGM are 7K room hotels. LV has about 10 hotels that are in the 4K room class. Mexican nationals will not clean hotels, they consider it beneath them, or at least it was that way when I lived there. They are more established there and can do better. Hotel maids there are primairly from El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, etc.

They are, for the most part, documented. They are, for the most part, unionized. They start at 10 an hour with full benefits, and go up to 16 an hour, that is 32K a year. Paid vacation, matching 401K.

  14. Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your choice of the Cornwall III's. You will not be disappointed in that selection.

As to your question about tube amps, we probably going to need some clarification. from you as to how you are using the term "amp"

You indicated in your post that you still had the Marantz 4400 "Amp." The 4400, as far as I recall, is a receiver, a Quad one at that.. A receiver has an amplifier, a pre-amplifier and a tuner all in one box.

The terminology associated with electronic components is a bit confusing at first, which is not your fault, sales people call different things by different names, and advertising sometimes does the same thing.

  15. Used 2009 Klipschorns: $3500.00.

Being able to have a concert (and/or movie) in my basement anytime I want: Priceless.

It doesn't get any better than that. Did the original owner indicate why they were selling them? Moving and no room, different direction?
