  1. I have a pair of 1990 LaScalla's and the K401 Horns have what appear to be white spider-web like cracks in them. I know this is just inherent in the materials uses, but I was wondering if anyone has come up with a good way of re-blacking the inside of their mid-range horns so they look nice and pretty.

    Thanks,

    Travis

  2. I was wondering if any of my fellow HT Forum members have the Yahmaha SPX 1 projector. It has now been discontinued and the place where I do some business is offering them at a closeout price of $4,000. I would appreciate any feedback on this model, Yamaha projectors in general or if anyoneis really plased with their projector they might have recently purchased in the $4,000 range.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Both pair are HD La Scala's.

    $2200 for both.

I know La Scala's are efficient, is there a way to hook up a portable cd/mp3 player to them?

He said he would take $1700

If he is asking $1,700 for two (2) pair, i.e., four speakers, that is a very good price depending on the shape of the exterior. Keep in mind that you can get the "home" version in excellent shape for $1,000 which you would be able to test and could get assurances on. There are a couple of great posts you can search for on this forum about what to look for when purchasing LaScalla's depending on the year of manufacture. You should try and get the S/N's ahead of time and post them on here so that you can get some more input on what the original drivers and cross-overs should be.

A portable cd might be a little light, but you can for sure hook them up to a car stereo system, right off the amp. I know because I had to test a pair this way myself and you can get them cranked up as high as you need for a good test.

    Good luck,

    Travis

  4. I have a lot of LP's for sale. I recently purchased the last remains of a record store here in Austin (2000 lps). I have a lot of duplicates, extras that I am going to get rid of on ebay. I would rather give forum members first dibs on going through them. Most of these are 70's and 80's rock. They range in condition, most are VG, some are NM. If anyone is interesed send me a private message or an emial to tcwesq@texas.net and I will be happy to send you a list of what I got.

  5. I am driving about 4 hours to look at/purchase two pairs of LaScalas this Saturday. The seller says they have the following S/N's:

    S/n: 110016 and 110017

    s/n:19T208 and 19T211

The "T" I assume means they were made in 1979. The other numbers are giving me problems. Were those compleated on the 11th day of 2000 and were thus speaker No.s 16 and 17.

I read the great posts Q-Man and several others left on looking at LaScalas for purchase which will come in quite handy, I just want to be sure the owner in on track with those first S/N's.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If everything looks and sounds good up to this point this is when I show him the color of my money and say " I'll buy them if you let me look inside the bass horn and see if they have the correct woofer".

I get my screw gun, turn the speaker up side down and unscrew the bottom cover. Take a quick peek inside and then seal it up and carry them out the door. Don't forget to let the owner take a look inside. I find that they never knew how to do this and they get a kick out of looking in the dog house for the first time.

    Q-Man,

    Great Post Q-Man

Seeing as how I am also in the process of buying LS's, it could not have come at a better time. I am buying 4 from one guy that I am driving out to see next weekend.

I was with you all the way on your suggestions up to the point of looking for the "correct woofer." What is the correct woofer in a 1990 set supposed to look like and in a 1978 set? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank,

There all yours if you want both travis .

I've got enough klipsch in my house to do 3 or 4 people , if your that close then good luck on your bidding and i'll pull back . I'm in canada so shipping is always a hassle plus the 1.33 exchange rate.

I'm sure i'll find my single belle some day .15.gif Plus i'm really after a black one.

    Thanks Dale,

I see they are up over 1,300 now so it remains to be seen if they stay reasonable. I mispoke, they are in AZ, which is still possible for my to pick up rather then risk shipping. If I do get them, I will give you first choice to buy one of them when I split them up to use one as a center later on.

I will let you know how it works out.

  8. Dale,

I was going to try and get that same pair, but I don't want to be bidding against a fellow forum member. Can you let me know if you are able to find someone to go in with you, or if you are real serious about that particular set. They peaked my interest becasue I can drive to Tulsa to pick them up and don't have to risk having them shipped.

    Let me know,

    Travis

  9. This is a dumb question, however, it will probably save me money in the long run so here goes anyway. If you are running 3 LaScalla's upfront, where do you have the TV (I don't have a projector/screen yet. A LaScalla is not shielded in anyway so TV on top of the center (I shudder even thinking about setting a tv on top of one). Any insight into this layout issue would be most appreciated.

  10. The following speakers are listed on ebay:

    "EPIC CF-4 Floorstanding Tower Speakers

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    NO RESERVE!!

These speakers offer better imaging than even the famed Klipschorn, as evaluated by owners of both the CF-4's and K-Horns on the Klipsch Forum.

    Peak Power Handling (1200W) surpasses KLF-30 (800W) and the new RF-7 (1000W).

Unlike these other speakers, the CF-4's are front ported, allowing close to wall placement."

He claims that some members of this forum believe that the CF-4 have better imaging then K-Horns.

    IS THIS TRUE?

  11. There are some K-Horns for sale on ebay right now described as follows:

"Serial # 1504 and #1056, signed labels on the back of speakers (see photos). Only a very few nicks in the cabinetry. Grills are near perfect, front and side. Number 1504 appears to be in original condition. Number 1056 appears to have some refinishing on the cabinetry. All coils and wiring have been inspected and replaced where necessary. They are hooked up and sound magnificent. They look incredible and are a rare find. These speakers are very heavy and would be expensive to ship. That is possible if buyer is willing to pay all expenses incurred. Please email me if you have any questions at Ccarr0326@aol.com. I will answer all that I can. They belonged to my late husband and he cherished them. I do not have a room in my current home to accommodate them as they should be used. They can be seen and heard in AUSTIN, TEXAS."

I live in Austin so there is not going to be easier way then this to buy some used K-Horns. I have seen some discussion in this forum about the sound of the new K-Horns vs. a nice vintage set. Putting aside for the moment the price difference, I was wondering if someone could comment on the vintage vs. brand new issue.

Secondly, I would appreciate anyone's comments on what they thought about the speakers for sale.

    Thanks in advance

Good lord, man. That's not a true 7.1 anyhow! No wonder the Denon replacement sounded so much better - crikey, you're talking about a 3.1 system with auxilliary front and rear channels - the 3 true "front" channels are 100 watts apiece, while the rears and the "front effects" channels are 35 watts apiece.

The speed of technology or marketing? Two or three years ago I bought a Yamaha RXV 1300 (6.1 x 100w) to build my home theater around. At the time is was just out, cost about $1,000, and was "state of the art." Reading through this forum and looking at Yamaha website made me realize that it has been passed up at least 5 times, is now about half the price. It feels like it is almost obsolete. I think the manufacturers have ten years of future "state of the art" technology locked in a vault somewhere and just release it a bit at a time when sales start to dwindle on the last years "state of the art" system.
