  1. I can imagine those grado sr-60s looking pretty silly hooked up to an ipod though;) According to user reviews they fall off of your head easily when you are jogging, so I guess that won't do.
  2. For those of you klipsch people that own an Ipod, what kind of portable headphones would you recommend to give the best sound performance for a modest price? The generic headsets sound like crap and sound like the bottom 4 octaves are cut out. I've heard sennheiser headphones before (hd600's i think) and they sounded great on a home setup, but you probably wouldn't want to take something that nice out for a jog. Any ideas?
  3. If you are using a sub I would personally go with the heresy. I dig the K-55V sound!
  4. Wow. I wish somebody would do that to my heresys!
  5. Has anybody mentioned any talking heads albums yet? I think their live album "The name of the band is the talking heads" is my favorite of their 80's catalogue (otherwise I would have went fear of music '79). Other favorites Iron Maiden Debut, Killers, Number of the Beast (Very interesting, the only albums with Clive Burr are my favorite...) David Bowie - Scary Monsters Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine Front 242 - Official Version Metallica - Ride the Lightning Megadeth - Peace Sells Peter Gabriel - So Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
  6. Has anybody heard much about the SVS top of the line sub, or had the pleasure of listening to it?
  7. That was all I needed to know, thanks! I do have spring terminal k55V's ('77), so taming the 9khz peak is in my best interest.
  8. I have seen a few discrepencies regarding this "P trap" in past posts. Which values of capacitor and inductor are the correct choices to use with the old K55V driver? I am also interested in hearing exactly how to connect this in simple terms (this end of the capacitor connects precisely here on the crossover, or this part of the inductor connects there). If they could be tightened down via the squawker terminals on the crossover that would be very easy. I am getting a 9k peak in my mid driver that really flares when playing the talking heads! Thanks
  9. In order to attenuate the K55V driver you must drop it down one tap as well as install a resistor upon the drivers terminals. My question is: would a 15 ohm 10 watt resistor be suitable for this? I can not find a 16 ohm 10 watt resistor! Also, would backing off the K-77 two taps (to 1) shift the frequency response to the point of needing a new cap or resistor?
  10. This is great, I get the best of both worlds with this combination! Using the hk630 as a preamp, I get that lovely hk sound, but now with the yamaha horsepower. Time to turn up the volume!
  11. Do any of you guys think using the vintage hk630 preamp section with a yamaha ax596 integrated would be a good idea with my heresy's? I have both integrated amps and the hk sounds nice and warm, but doesnt have enough juice, while the yamaha is much cleaner at high volume (100 watts) but less organic sounding.
  12. Is it beneficial to reverse the polarity on the tweeter as well? I havent done this yet..
  13. Either way, I think you would have more powerful bass than the local movie theater! I would probably go with the B4, those look really scary.
  14. I've finally ordered and received some audiocap theta's, and I'm going to throw these puppies in once I decide on rewiring my system or not... they are 30 years old. I somehow doubt that I will hear any changes when switching to new wire. Personally, I havent heard any differences when switching generic and 'monster' speaker wires/rca cables with my stereo before... who knows. By the way, whats the deal with the horn damping? I'm assuming this helps to minimize horn resonance at high frequencies. Sounds messy!
  15. Whoa, front 242? I havent heard them in 10 years or so! I think I'm gonna dust off some of my old cds, thanks for the idea;)
  16. One last call for an almost brand new pb2+ for $900:) I'll post this badboy up on ebay shortly. John MacKenzie
  17. THanks for the info on the resistor for midrange attenuation:) Personally, I like to drop down the tweeter, and only the tweeter. So far I prefer having the midrange slightly louder than the other drivers (stock position). Maybe i'll try sticking in the resistor for the sake of achieving optimal balance, after I install the new caps of course.
  18. I am planning on replacing both in each speaker, certainly. I think I am going to experiment with the thetas, they sound promising. One last thing... I understand that a 2.0 uf value is required- should this change at all when you have both the tweeter/midrange drivers attenuated by 3db (decrement tap number by 1 on each)?
  19. Maybe someday in the future I would go with another svs sub, when I'm living in a house. However, the pb2+ is just ridiculously powerful, and my main speakers more than enough to please me. Total overkill!
  20. Those metallized solen caps are dirt cheap. I wonder if they would even sound better than my aged stock heresy caps. I could pick up hovlands if those are preferred because they are a local (madison). I definitely don't want to go overboard in price though.. Some people here seem to be recommended the audiocap theta's which are on the partsexpress website, but they cost around 6 times more than the solens.
  21. Well, if you look at this on the bright side, you would be saving 300 dollars over the retail(no shipping) and be able to pickup a mint condition product right away as opposed to waiting. Also note that I said price was negotiable! I would also be willing to throw in some 'bettercables' if anybody shows interest. -John M.
  22. My heresy I speakers were produced in '77, and maybe it is time to replace the oil caps with some film/foil ones. The question of the day is, what types of caps are preferred? I would like something that is a good bang for the buck, and that would improve the quality of sound. -John M.
  23. Before posting an ad on ebay or in the local papers, I figured I'd give some klipsch/svs lovers a chance at this. I'm selling my pb2+, price negotiable, at 1G. However, I am in the Madison WI area, and do not wish to ship this beast. Pickup only! It has been used for about 5 or 6 months, and has not been pushed enough. I'm about to graduate college in a month, and need to get rid of some of my toys. Send me a message if anybody is interested and in the area:) -John MacKenzie
