  1. I just picked up both X-men movies for my kid........and me. Wow, fantastic sound!!! DTS is simply amazing! I think the sound blows away the movie! Check it out!
  2. O.K. ambiant it is, The self titled cd from AIR is a great! I am not into that type of music, but this one is pretty good. Electronic, laid back. But if you are looking for something new, and something old at the same time. And you are into just plain, unbutcherd by producers rock and roll check out Kings of Leon. I found it to be a refreshing change of pace from the crap that is being put out today. I am looking for some music that will show off my speakers potential. I am into rock as well as good classic jazz. Old or new, anybody got anything worth checking out?
  3. I recently replaced my speakers with RF7's, so no one get on me for asking a question about JBL's! I have a pair of Decade 36 JBL Monitors. I wasted a woofer in one of them when my reciever flipped out and I couldn't get it to stop popping. Replaced that too with a new RXV1. But anyway, the question is...where can I pick up a good 10" woofer? And do I need to replace both of them? I am not sure that JBL still is making anything of it's original quality, and I am up for sujestions! I also need to know, if I replace with another brand, should I replace the crossovers?
  4. Bruinsfan- I agree with everyone else - go with what sounds good to you. I went with the Yahmaha RXZ-1 over the Denon. Only because of problems that I had years ago with a Denon. It kept going out, and they kept fixing it. I finally was asked to pick out another reciever, and went with Onkyo. It after 10 years just failed, so alot of research went in to the new Yamaha. Denons are great! I just had a bad one. It happens, but I also don't buy Chevy's anymore. A friend of mine hase the same speaker set up as me, but is running the Denon Flagship. We do not notice alot of diff. in movies, but we both agree that music sounds better at my house, as well as no one can touch the DSP quality of Yamaha. It could also be the acoustics of my room! My opinon is, if you like it, keep it! You only go back to upgrade! If there is a feature that you are missing that you really want, go get it. Crank it up and have fun!
  5. I was talked into spending close to $100.00 to wire my system up through the reciever, (2) sets of cables are needed). I noticed NO diff. in picture quality. The only thing that I gained was being able to watch a video or play a game while listening to a diff. sound input. How often do you do that? I bought another DVD player for another room, and used those cables in there, hooked every thing back up direct. On other things that I have purchased, I was told that direct is always better. But the salesman will always tell you to hook up to the receiver, but they are on commision, and there is a huge margin in "Monster Cable". They are also pushed to drive up the average ticket, cables, extended warranties, etc. I am no expert either, this is just what I have seen and done. Let me know if you find out any thing that say diff.
  6. A few of my favorites to shock the friends are The big battle in The Two Towers, start with the silence..........and the wham a lightening bolt starts the adventure of mind blowing battle noises. Gone in Sixty Seconds.....Elenor sounds wild when she's all wound up! But if you want to shake em to the core, it is gonna be Jurasic Park 3, DTS! Pick a scene. Salesman used on me when I was looking for my Klipsch speakers, It worked! I left with the whole front of my system complete that night!
  7. A couple of great picks: Harry Connic Jr., Only You. A great collection of outstanding musical performers. Fantastic sound, very few concert videos make me feel like I am there. This one does it. Sat with my wife and watched it, and she asked me to "TURN IT UP", word I never thought I would hear her say, it brought a tear to my eye! 2 thumbs up if you like Harry. The other new music that I just grabed that is worth mentioning is Stevie Ray Vaughn's - SRV! Some great classic SRV tracks that I already had on other CD's, but some fantastic stuff that I did not have! Crank it up, this guy is a legend for a reason!

    DTS

I do now, thanks! I was just in a brain dead state! Too much work, not enough play.........., But everything is great now! Optical vs. Coax.........I am hearing 2 sides, a freind builds home theater sys. for a living! He only uses optical and says there is now diff. for the distance I am running. But I have been told and read that the coax is a better conduit for higher bit info. I run optical now, and I am not even sure if there is anything out there that even coded with that much info? I will prob. just stick with optical unless someone has some great info on the subject.

    DTS

Thanks everyone!! I forgot all about switching over to DTS in the set up menu. Before buying the rec. I wished I could use the function. Then I finnaly upgrade and I forgot it was there! The Hildalgo scene is outstanding!!! Just checked it out! WOW!!! Thanks for all your help!!

    DTS

Just wondering if anyone can answer a few questions. I have a DTS reciever and a DTS DVD player, but I can not get DTS playback. I have everything wired optic, and I am set to bitstream output on the dvd. When I switch the reviever to DTS input I get nothing. And when I select Digital input all I get is the standard Dolby Digital signals. Am I doing something wrong? By the way, I am trying to play DTS encoded DVD's. This is driving me crazy!!!! Also, what is the diff. between the optical and the coaxal inputs, should I switch to coaxal?
  11. I agree BREAK THE BANK!!! Do it slow if needed, but don't settle. Build it a little at a time. Look at Yamaha rec., they have never let me down. We just put together a system for a buddy. And it turned out great! Yamaha rec $750.00, and RF5 fronts. He is very happy! In a few months he will add a new center and rears. And I talked to his wife and she is going to get him a sub for Christmas. Working out great for him!! Slow, and Low that is the Tempo!
  12. Thanks everyone! You have now helped me with a few problems at once. I will get rid of the wife and keep the speakers. Grab the checkbook on her way out, and buy some more speakers and mabey a new amp. Never have to listen to her "chit chat" again, or turn magazine pages! But then I would have to pay child suport, alamony, cook for myself, clean up after myself, and wash clothes! Then I would find a new woman that would start out great, and then begin the downward spiral into another relationship nightmare. And who knows the way the courts work now, she would propably end up with my speakers anyway! So the only solution is to keep them both, and find her a hobby!! Great idea by the way! But Amy you are right about talking and chit chating.
  13. 100% correct on that page turning thing. I like it silent when I climb into bed. The pages of the magazine and the stupid chuckle when she reads a joke drives me up the wall. And then there is the licking the finger before she turns the page. We just cant win!!
  14. Throw the Bose away!! Just get another set of RF7's, why beat your head against the wall trying to get something to sound like them!!
  15. I am now having problems with my wife and sound levels! She has always been cool about loud music and movies. But now that I have placed the rf7's in our theater room, she constantly complains about turning it down. Why spend so much money to listen to it at such low levels? Now I understand that it does not need to be full blast, but you need to feel things!!! Will diamonds shut her up? Anyone had any luck with this issue? Or have I just been put in my place!!
  16. Hey, mabey someone can give me an idea of what is going on. My Klipsch sub is receiving a signal, but it cuts in and out. Fire it up and it is kicking your chest in with bass, and then it stops. When you toggle the phase switch it turns back on, and then after a few good thumps, it stops again. My RF7's kick out enough bass that you don't notice right away, but then the part in the song you have been waiting for is just not there! I can't figure it out? Loose wire, bad switch, I don't know. Any ideas? Help!!
  17. 80 watts is just not going to deliver "ref" levels of sound! I was running my RF7's with a Onkyo that was putting out 95 watts per. I thought it was pretty good! Until I bought the new Yamaha RXV Flagship, I did not realize how much I was missing! Now the bass is kicking me in the chest!!! In my opinion, you should look for a receiver that is putting out a little more power, with a cleaner amp. Go Yamaha or Denon!!
