  1. me too... he's just being funny
  2. I have a special audio towel if you like to borrow it. I usually wear it around my waist but it is made of special sound wave catching cotton materials. They look really nice draped over speakers. Lemme know.

  5. I tried to find a tech to repair this Genesis Stealth B200 for about 2 years. No luck until Analogman hooked me up with scott frankland in San Jose Ca. It cost me $200 to ship it one way but Scott really knows his stuff! He says... " was able to bypass the relay circuits and power up the main power supply with all loads disconnected. All power supplies appear to work fine without loads. As for the failure mode, what I have found so far is that one entire bank of output FET's are shorted (8 devices total). I don't yet know what caused this catastrophic failure. These devices have inadequate heat sink grease in my opinion. There is also a blown filter cap on the driver board feeding these FET's (this cap does most of the input filtering for the driver board, so I will renew it in both channels). I have yet to power up this driver board, but it generally seems OK with static tests. The computer board is probably OK, too, but I won't know for sure until after I run some AC signal tests. I need also to test the input amplifiers (they appear to be OK with static tests). When I'm done with these initial tests I'll forward an estimate for the work. Here's what another stealth amp owner told me about the amps sound... "I think the Stealths amp sound is the best I have ever heard. I have owned Krell, ML, Rowland, Futterman OTL's, Pass, and currently Threshold Sa-12e's and none compete. I have no interest in this other than from an audiophile position. If you ever get to listen to this amp you know it is special. I have had countless people in the business say this. The tech who fixed mine used it for a month to test. He said there is nothing that touches it & if there was he has never heard it and it would be very, very expensive." I'm hoping this amp is going to make my khorns SING! Maybe the search for my sonic nirvana will be over?
  6. I have heard a lot of consoles. They all sound ok. IF he's looking for those kinds of amps then he's all set. He'll be able to buy as many as he wants I bet. I was after things that had value and could be resold if I chose not to use it in my system. What would a guy do with a bunch of consoles? Gut them out and build some DIY speakers powered by the electronics taken from the console? Maybe you could gut them out and offer the items on ebay? There are the occassional consoles that have been fitted with the ultra desireable marantz and mac gear so consoles can't be written off altogether.
  7. CTBB if you're running a wanted ad you're gonna get a lot of console calls. I did! Ask a lot of questions to determine what the electronics are in the console. Name brands give away a lot. Magnavox, zenith, motorola and any of the other consoles sold in sears or similar department stores generally aren't worth looking at. Even if the console is MINT and working 100% it may not be worth bothering with. Good luck with your ad! I had some great luck with mine a few years ago.
  8. yeah $2500 is way to high. Lets all give away our khorns
  9. buy am and let us know what your findings are. You can propably resell on ebay for more money.

  12. I sold mine for $900 a while ago. At that time I felt I was giving them away. Now they are selling for much less all the time. Strange. Khorn prices aren't exactly soaring either. You can pick up a nice pair of khorns on ebay or audiogon for $1500-$1800. That's LOW!
  13. I was watching "as good as it gets" today and noticed the older obsessive complusive character had a bunch of mcintosh gear in his living room. The big blue meters were a dead give-a-way. I heard the movie "hi-fi" has some great vintage stuff and the movie "boogie nights" had a scene where they were in a well equipped 70's hi fi store. I haven't seen either yet. Any other movies showcase some cool gear?
  14. that's why I'm not overly enthusiastic about false corners. No matter how nicely done they are still ugly as heck and look horribly out of place.
  15. Interesting response dman. I never thought of turning the tops to my desired position. I'll have to look into that asap. But wouldnt the whole cabinet have to be moved away from the wall a few inches in order for the back of the turned speaker top NOT to hit the wall?

  17. ... to build a khorn that sits in a corner but at less of an angle? I mean, when it sits in the corner it wouldn't be almost facing the opposing speaker so the sweet spot isn't 4 feet from the wall. I suspect a person could make a fortune fabricating and selling a pair of add on sections that allow the khorn to still be in the corner but not towed in so far toward the center of the room.
  18. A friend has one with the infamous blown output stage. I'm not sure if I should bother with it. http://www.altavistaaudio.com/220repair.html
  19. Just curious if anyone has any experience with klipsch and the counterpoint sa20 or just the sa20. 200wpc is a bit overkill for khorns ...but ...with the hybrid design maybe it's not as harsh sounding as some 200wpc SS amps?
  20. according to orion in 73 there were only 2 rotel receivers. the rx454 quad at 20wpc and the rx800 non-quad at 40wpc. I think the guy is smoking his lunch telling you its 150wpc or even 75wpc. I'd say it's neither gem or junk. $30 is probably a good price if you need a receiver for the garage.
  21. price not set in stone. feel free to make a reasonable offer by email dhopkin1@nycap.rr.com
  22. Dodger thanks. I have a very nice pair of warfdale w70's that will have to do ...if I sell the khorns. I'm looking at a single family property in Troy NY. It's listed at $49k. A very solid rental property that will easily pay for itself. I own a 3 unit rental in the same area now. It pays for itself + gives me $500/month cash. I gotta get my priorities straight! Ben, no hecos! They sounded like crap!
