  1. How much room does a receiver need to breath? Im getting in my new HK AVR-130 soon and I want to make sure it doesn't over heat(as I've heard is a problem with HK). My AV rack I made my self was to hold a Yamaha and that has plenty of room ontop and on the sides. The new receiver is 6.6 inches tall. My opening for the receiver slot is only 9 inches high. Is that enough room for it to oporate properly? If its not how could it breath better? The AV rack is made for my dorm room to fit under the desk where the chair is at usually. It houses my receiver, ps2, VCR and DVD player and is made out of veneered MDF it matches and fits perfectly in the room.
  2. That is pretty awesome!! Who ever did that has some awesome ideas
  3. I know im only 20 but listening to quality music isnt just enjoyed by my elders. I have a selection of earlier generation music on my computer as well as what I listen to today. When I was young I use to take my dad's vinyl and listen to it. But yes something that would fit into my tastes would be awesome.
  4. What are good recording lables out there that will allow me see how my system really sounds?
  5. I agree. You will not need to have the exact length of speaker wire for all speakers. You would be wasting alot of wire when you dont need to and if you use expensive wire that would be a very high cost. Just use an ample amount of wire to each speaker. Make sure you have some slack in the wire so you can move the speaker around a little with out pulling the wire out of the receiver or speaker.
  6. Ive decided to go a head and throw myself into the HT crowd. I have KG4's as my main speakers with a HK avr-130(its in the mail!). What speakers would match with my KG4's as surrounds? Center? Do any of the new Klipsch line sound well with these speakers? Is there anyother speakers out there that sound good with the KG4's? Has anyone experimented with this concept before? I think I will make my own subs for my HT since I listen to alot of music and want something with alot of punch. Any info will help me!
  7. Klipsch did line these speakers with some form of foam. It is only located on the sides of the boxes.
  8. Has anyone heard the Polk Audio Monitor 10 speakers? They look awesome for being old! Would they sound better than my KG4's using the same receiver?
  9. If I do plan on a DIY sub it will be used for music and HT. Allthough I listen to more music than movies. I would like to use it for SPL purposes with a little SQ thrown in there. My main speakers are Klipsch KG4's and will so have my new Harman Kardon AVR-130. The room size varries each year. Durring the summer months I'm at home in my basement which is ruffly 25x16 duing the school year my dorm room is 10x15. So I need something to fill my basement when I move home.
  10. Does anyone else use DIY subs here? What are the benifits of using a sub like this? What are you using for the subwoofer? Amp? Im currently looking to update my subs. I have two 12" Kicker XPL's drivin by an old(and I mean old) Aiwa receiver that powers out at 120watts rms x 2 @ 8ohms(probably more since my subs are 4ohm). If anyone has tried this let me know.
  11. Where did you hear all of that? I will for sure let you know if I have any problems with this receiver!
  12. Is there anyone from nothern iowa on this site? If so where do you live?
  13. I just purchased a Harman Kardon AVR-130 receier! I hope lives up to the name of HK. Havent gotten it in yet but soon then I might need some help!
  14. These are very good replies for me to use. Thanks to everyone.
  15. So it will go with my KG4's well then! Awesome! It is a Factory refurbished unit though but it comes with warranty. Is HK good with repairing units or do they fall behind par? Has anyone used a B-stock unit from HK?
  16. I have found a few of these on the internet. Are these good receivers? I dont want to spend that much money and these seem to be a great buy for the money. Does anyone have one of these? Tell me about it. Will it work with 6ohm speakers because im going to use it on my KG4's? Any info would be awesome! Thanks
  17. My price cap would be $300. And I would like to branch out into HT pretty soon.
  18. I found it on ebay for $10. I see its not such a great product. I guess I wont try it.
  19. I know there are alot and I mean alot of receivers out there that do a good job. My question is what receier do you use to power your KG4 speakers? Im in the market for a new/used receiver and came here to see what everyone uses! Any replies will be taken seriously. Thanks
  20. Has anyone used one of these with their computer? Does it really make MP3's sound better? How easy is it to install into my computer? For $10 is it really a bad try?
  21. Has anyone used a HTR-5740? Does it work awesome for dvd's and music both? Will it be enough to run my KG4's or will it sound thin and harsh like I have heard about other Yamahas? I have a Yamaha HTR-5240 right now with my KG4's and it has its days of sound. I am looking to up grade. Would this be worth $220 or no? How does Yamaha compare to Denon in terms of sound? Thanks for any input!
  22. Has anyone had one of these receivers? Does the stereo setup sound strong with strong bass and clean highs? Would this receiver match my KG4's well? Is there anyway to turn off crossover points on this receiver? If anyone has one of these that they have used and like it tell me more about it! If anyone has one for sale that would be awesome.
  23. What sort of preamp would you recomend for the HK 430? Would a 630 work well. But i guess i do want something with a remote.
