  1. this would be a great starter system!! great for the guy who said he only had $1700 for a new system jay
  2. sounds like you need an nad dealer in you neighborhood any of the high end recievers (5.1 or 7.1) should be auditioned before you make your buying decision NAD freak jay

  5. i agree that you should replace the carpet if you dont that musty smell will come back to haunt you every time you have a humid day and the ac insnt cranked up we went through this in our basement and i waited to replace the carpet (big mistake) jay
  6. with a small sub you shouldnt have any promlems if you up grade to a more powerful unit, the vibrations become the issue. i had a big proscan rear projection unit with an extended warranty and after the third time they had to come out to the house and resolder the boards on the set they told me no more!! and said they would void the warranty if i didnt pull the subs out of the room jay
  7. with a $1700 dollar budget you could go to best buy and get the 5.1 klipsch set up the have there, it comes with all the speakers/ cables/ reciever ect. and sells for $900 that still leaves you with $800 for your display and ywould make a great starter system!! jay
  8. if its really that bad you may want to check out the reason for it , ground loops ect. i cant beleive its that bad,at any volume level jay
  9. the thing i have noticed with the new new multi channel recievers; pre/pro units is that the more channels you power up at idle(min volume) the more noise they make but once you turn up the volume(past the idle level) it's how they sound that makes the differance!! remember that 105db is the thx standard id go nad all the way!!! see my system profile for bias on my part jay

And can take it like a man!! hahahaha Whatever sound point YOU like, it is fine. THX is a performance standard, not what YOU have to listen to db wise at home. Personally the one surprising on the regular sized screen not the 16x 9 one where he flies back to the right, then left, rear center (drops hammer ka thud arrrrhhhh) then to the front. Turns it back on... is an amazing promo. People freak out in my downstairs system how real it really is. You almost swear he flies over you and is the BEST demo! ---------------- well yes and no my system is thx certified but my house is not soundproof i guess my question should have been "would 105db be the referance they would use in a commercial theater? when setting up a new movie?? and people at my place swear the he flys through you!!! and have the bruises to prove it!! jay
  11. LOL I was thinking the same thing. Being into the "Live Audio" end of things, Might I suggest: http://www.jblpro.com/pub/tour/4895.pdf Being a 16 ohm cab, you could easily have two of these cabs per channel for a max 8 ohm load. I promise you, you will NOT set these on fire. The documentation even say they're "portable". At a 140db @1m per cab, I'm sure you can reach the levels you desire without a problem. :-) Good luck! ---------------- thats funny. thanks, but no thanks. ill stick to my klipsch!! if i lost my mind or won the lotto id go with the mgm grand set up offered by the company!!! jay
  12. if they have enough of them that they are for sale as rebuilts what does that tell you about them?? tells me that they have lots of people with warranty issues and to shop somewhere else!! jay
  13. if the thx referance point is 105 db then can i take it for granted that the referance level should be set to 105 db during the thx warm up shown at the beginning of the disc?? (you know, when the thx logo shows up and the sound builds to a subsonic rumble) thanks jay

I run 3 big DBX amplifiers in my system and I do like it loud, but I have never blown so much as a tweeter. ---------------- i didnt know anything about the upgrade, so i called nad today and talked to bob, the north american tech director, and he told me that the software has not been released on the internet yet and that the only way to upgrade at this time was to return the unit to the dealer. (bummer, the nearest dealer is 325 miles away from me) he also told me that the new dolby chip set has not been released for upgrade at this time and couldnt tell me about cost related to the upgrade. ive been so happy with the t 163 that i had not even checked for updates!! so in answer to your question, no but i will as soon as it comes around!! jay
  15. thanks sorry i didnt reply sooner but it took this long to look through the thread!! jay all i can say is WOW some of you guys/gals have your stuff together and some of you you guys are tweekers!!! jay

  17. being new to this forum i would like to say that i've been kinda put in my place. i have always thought that i had the kick a** system, but after looking at some of the system profiles and reading the sigs that some of you have, im now thinking that i need to upgrade my system!!! maby i could get a set of older k-horns(mains) and a belle(center)move my cornwalls to the rear sides and my herasys to the rear surrounds and take my rc7 and rs 35's up stairs to the "other system" built around a 65 inch sony 4:3 set!! please post up some pics of these awesome systems!! im starting to imagine walking into the ht room and having this to play with!!! i can already see that im not sleeping tonight!! post up jay
  18. i was with you untill you said under $300 or did you mean $3000?? if you dont have a sub; go with whatever reciever that you like in your price range and just turn the crossover off or select the no sub option on the setup menu(that should turn off the bass managment and send all the low freqs to the front mains jay

  20. i added some pics of the ht room into my system profile i had the can lights up all the way but the room is so light absorbing that the pics are still a little dark, even with the flash all the way up let me know what you think jay
  21. i have started two of the voice coils on the k-33's and one k-22 driver out of one of my herasey's(that one really bummed me out, as they were all original "67's")on fire. on the other ones the feed wires pulled free (the round mag k33s burnt up the square mag ones pulled loose) i have never driven the amps into overload and i also leave the soft clipping set to on at all times. subsonic filter is set to 16 hertz jay

I drove my Cornwalls initially with a McIntosh MC2105 (100 WPC) and filled the room at 120 db SPL's and the ole blue meters barely moved! I would second-third-fourth the notion that the amp is the problem. That sounds way too problematic. ---------------- the thing is that i like it loud and the driver deaths have come with poorly recorded tracks and it just got away from me. (mostly when showing off) if you look at my system specs i think that you will agree that to much power is most likely the problem thanks for the advise tho. i know more about system set up than the tech side of things and it never crossed my mind that 2, 15 inch woofers could react differenty in different sized enclosures i have saved all the k 33's and may have one of them reconed does anyone have someone they would recomend, i don mind shipping costs if its to someone i can trust thanks jay
  23. nad t 163 and a big pile of nad amps jay
  24. has anyone done this? and if so did you like the results?? i bought the cornies new in "79" and have over the years toasted two tweeters, one mid and four woofers. i have never been happy with the resiliance of the k33 driver. although i was happier with the older square magnet drivers, the new round magnet ones seam a little weak. i was thinking of useing a pair of the drivers from the 15 in reference sub. any thoughts?? i find my self having to purchace a new k33 or a set of the new k-1114-t reference drivers thanks jay
