  1. I'm running my system through an HK avr-130 with my 4.1 speakers as the base and then I purchased a 5.1 center channel (no ultra's avaliable from where I purchased the part from). I have my 4.1 sats at 200Mhz and the 5.1 center channel at 120Mhz. I'm not sure what the full specs are(I read the 5.1 stats are 120Mhz, but couldn't find anything on the 5.1 center channel), I believe the 4.1 sats are 200Mhz, but I'm hoping maybe 120Mhz. Anyone know the the cross over specs that should be used for these speakers? Also, any suggestions on how far apart the left and rights should be from the center channel. My couch is located about 6' from the TV console and there is about another 1' or 1.5' if you factor in sitting position and speakers sitting back on the console - so about 7.5' from front speakers to ears. My left and rights are on the main console and I think they might be to close togather and to high. Any tips on setup?
  2. I'm still getting up to speed on the different approachs to HT. I noticed you mentioned pairing a woofer with the satellites. If I understand that right, a 5.1 setup would actually have an extra subwoofer with the two rear satellite speakers? Do you just split the pre-out to the main subwoofer out to the extra two subwoofers? Would bookshelf speakers as surrounds be a reasonable compromise?
  3. Thanks for the advice. So even though the RF-25 are 125 watts maximum continuous (500 watts peak) the HK130 (45watts per channel) should be able to power these sufficently for normal listening? Is the 125 watts maximum just the most a amp should drive the speaker? I noticed there are RF-15s, but I didn't see a center channel for that one (there was a center channel for the RF-25s. Is there any reason to not go with the RF10 (they have a smaller maximum 75 watt and I think a little more affordable), there is also a matching center speaker the RC-10. Also, I know the 130 doesn't have pre-outs for anything other than the sub, so I can't drive any of the speakers with an additional amp, so what ever I get I have to be able to drive with the HK 130s. If I can drive the floor stands, then I'm thinking that might be more along the right lines. For now though I got to make do with my promedias and try not to burn them out. I wonder if I purchased a RC-10 to make my center channel now if that would over power the poor promedias badly. Again thanks for your advice. Hope you have a Merry Christmas - I'm just waiting for boxing day at Future Shop to get my AVR130.
  4. I'm thinking of picking up an HK AVR130 - Future Shop is selling them for $299 CND on Box Day. Any recommendations on what speakers to buy for them. Right now I have a Klipsch 4.1 promedia which I'm going to patch into the HK till I can afford something more appropraite. I'll probably end up buying my overal system piecemeal. I see many of the speakers of Klipsch products lines have 2 watts rating (one being a peak). I"m assuming that the smaller number is the mininum Watts needed to drive the speaker. The AVR130 indicates 45 Watts per channel (5.1). From what I've read HK is conservative on thier ratings or else measure it differently then other cheaper AVRs which indicating higher watts. Parameters - small to medium sized room/setup/viewing/listening distance (now and in the future). - Won't being playing them at high volumes - ever. - Would like great quality sound at low to moderate listening volumes. I'm very pleased with the 4.1 promedia speakers, so klipsch probably has me hooked as a consumer. From what I can see the RCX-3, RSX-3 and RW-8 speakers might be just want I'm looking for. From the power requirements it looks like the AVR130 should be able to power these speakers and I think they are the more affordable speakers from klipsch. Any thoughts on these? As I need a center channel immediately I'm tempted to get the RCX-3, but it would probably overpower my promedia 4.1 speakers. The other choice is to get a 5.1 center speaker and start saving up. Any thoughts on this? Any recommendation? Thanks. Jason
  5. I need to get a replacement speaker to bring my 4.1 system up to a 5.1. I'm going to try running it through a receiver, careful on the volume because of the 4ohms klipsch. I'm assuming the Promedia's 5.1s centre channel should be a sufficent match to the the 4.1's speakers to operate as a centre channel for my 4.1 system. Any thoughts on this?
  6. I've been looking around for a decent AVR that isn't too expensive to drive my 4.1s + another set of speakers (hopefully some replacement promedia speaker or perhaps I'll check out the ultra 2.0s). I've found a Yamaha RX-V650 that seems to possibly fit the bill at BayBloorRadio in Toronto. From what I've read about them, this reciever is pretty decent for its cost. I emailed BayBloorRadio and they didn't seem to think the receiver would give the 4ohmns speakers any trouble (although in general I've read that if your receiver is sending a single at 8ohmns to 4ohmns speakers you could over heat your speakers - or blow them? As far as getting the subwoofer to work, I can plug the sub out into the media in on the 4.1 control speaker and that should route all the lows to the sub. I'm hoping the ultra 2.0s or a replacement speaker will work as a centre speaker or centre/rear centre. ANyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this setup? It should work I believe.
  7. Any luck getting this to work? I want to get a similar set going, although at this point I only have promedia 4.1s and from what I can see the DDTS might be my cheapest alternative seeing as the promedia DD-5.1s are so expensive now that they aren't made. I'm pretty sure the main base comes from the center/lfe channel, and that the front and rear channels don't include much in the way of base. I'm thinking that as a result the DDTS probably won't work that well for me unless I get a 2.1 system and then do the invert - plug one of the 4.1 lines into the centre/lf channel to get the base, and use the 2.1s as either front or rear speakers. Just curious has to whether anyone has gotten this to work out okay. I think otherwise I'm either gonna have to shell out for the DD 5.1 off ebay or some such, or get a cheap av receiver or some such and plug the satalites directly into the speaker outputs on the reciever (and hope I don't blow the speakers ).
  8. I'm looking for a way to hookup a number of audio sources into my Klipsch 4.1s. (xbox, computer(audigy 2 zs), TV, Stereo, VCR). At this point I believe I'll be using only digital out from the xbox and computer(not sure if the audgiy 2 zs digital out is some sort of propetory CL production). Initially I was looking at the DD 5.1, but as the going price is around $300+ CND(atleast 200% of what they use to sell for). So now I'm considering looking around for some sort of pre-amp that might work with the Klipsch 4.1s One thing I'm not sure of, is do I just split off the various speakers and plug them into the pre-amp using the bare wire tips, can the Subwoofer be feed seperately? I noticed some pre-amps at FutureShop have a seperate out to go to a sub. It this works, It might be worthy looking for a few more speakers(maybe a replacement speaker) so I can convert my system from a 4.1 to a 5(6).1(2) or maybe go to a 7.1(2) setup. Any thoughts on this. I guess most specifically can the individual speakers be plugged seperatly into a pre-amp and the sub plugged into a pre-amps output?
  9. Okay I'm looking to setup my Promedias as my main sound system for my new apartment. From what I can tell the DD-5.1 works will with the Promedia 4.1s for surround sound so I'm considering it as an probably my best choice. TV & Sterio via RCA cables. From what I've seen of the back of the DD-5.1 from online pictures it looks like you get 3 l/r inputs (so that will take care of the TV and Stero no problem). XBox & Computer hookup via s/pdif cable I see an what looks like an optical an coaxial spdif inputs (do both work or is it just one or the other). I'm hoping both can work as in theory I'd plug the xbox into one, and the PC into the other. If only one works, or if for some reason I can't get my PC to output s/pdif (I have a sb audigy 2 zs (non platinum) and I'm not sure I can get the mini jack digital out to go to the coaxial in or convert it to optical and go that route. Can I send the F/R analog channels from the computer into the DD-5.1 RCA L/R and still get surround sound with bass(4.1s work with the bass being sent over the f/r channel or something like that. Will this just result in a stero setup or will surround sound be preserved. Oh how things get complicated. One other requirement is that the PC is about 20 feet away, so the computer audio cable will have to travel that distance and I'm if I'll run into any distances signal problems. Thanks. Jason.
  10. This last option or the one before it might be the best. It appears that creative isn't releasing the internal drive upgrade for the Audigy 2 ZS (You get this if you get the Audgiy 2 ZS Platinum). I think I need this to get the proper S/PDIF output, although supposebly you can get some sort of S/PDIF output but it sounds like its for Creative Speakers only (I'll have to investigate this more to see if this is the case). Otherwise long term I'll have to run the 5.1 analog wires from the audigy into the ProMedia DD5.1 (if that's even possible).
  11. I'm going to be trying to use my ProMedia 4.1 speakers as my main speaker system which will be situated around the main TV. I need to be able to connect my Audigy 2 zs over to my ProMedia 4.1 speakers which will be about 20 feet away. I don't think the two mini jacks that go to the computers front/rear outputs are 20 feet(much shorter I think). So two main questions. 1. is there replacement mini jack cables that will run atleast 20 feet, that will plug into the ProMedia 4.1 2. I'm considering using the ProMedia DD-5.1 as I do have an X box, and I might also want to connect the TVs audio and perhaps a cd player into this. So really all I'd need to do for the computers audio in this case is get an SPDF to go 20 feet (not sure if this is possible), or perhaps see if I can get the extra panel that comes with the audigy2 ZS platium or pro that has additional outputs I think optical. Anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed. Initially I may be stuck with trying to figure out something like option 1 due to cost, but option 2 will likely be my long term need. Thanks for any input
