Lol, Say it aint so,  Joe.   😀 As said,  Budgets are a fact of life. No big whup.  What's the fun challenge is,  is getting the most for the dollars spent.  As Kiipsch speakers last for decades, keep a keen eye on the used market,  and look for the killer deal.

Go larger still,  look for RF7's,  Forte's, Chorus or the Cornwalls. Get the latest versions your budget allows. 👍

Yes, you would not want glass, you want the sound to pass through the panels with ease.  Check out this site for ideas on creating art panels.  I would also investigate acoustic cotton for in house panels.

So, its possibly a room issue.    Just because it's so easy to do, turn the treble knob down a tick or two and see what happens.    I'm glad you're digging the Epics bass,  as do I.   Perhaps, some room treatments might diminish the high frequencies as well.

Actually it's Controlled Focus Technology. 👍 My bad. perhaps, its the Tractrix horn that focuses the energy to the listener. I don't know  I read it all in this brochure. 😀  I've posted it before..
