  1. I wish I was a little closer to this - Forte II's for $425 CAD http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/14504-klipsch_forte_ii
  2. I've moved into a condo and my speakers are too much for the space (physically) - I'm going to have to sell and I was hoping the knowledgable folks on this forum could give me an idea of what my set up is worth. Everything is in med oak and I will be selling as a group KG 4.5 (pair) KG 3.5 (pair) KV-3 centre) All are in outstanding condition (9/10) - much appreciate any feedback. Note - I will also be selling my Rotel RSX-972 receiver,RB870 power amp, and RCD 975 CD player but have an idea of what I can get for those.
  3. This note may come off as mindless chatter but I wanted to share a recent experience with this group.... Buying speakers is difficult - And when you are unable to audition, it becomes a crap shoot. I don't have access to a dealer so I have to buy based on feedback / reviews and other less than reliable means. First off, I'm relatively new to the Klipsch scene and have enjoyed building and upgrading my modest little system over the past 2 years. I started with KG 3.5's in a 2 channel setting and then added KG 1.2's to the rear and a KV2 center. I recently purchased a pair of KG 4.5's (allowing me to move the 3.5's to the rear), and a KV3 centre. What I have found is that the 4.5's are too much speaker for my room - the 3.5's were much better matched to my 14' x 16' room. I know if I had a larger room, I could take advantage of the 4.5's - looks like I need to upgrade my home. Anyway, I now wonder where some of you are putting the larger series speakers -obviously, you have more space than I and, as everyone knows, Klipsch is not a 5.5 driver kind of company. In my greed for bigger, I overlooked the obvious......
  4. Found a set - thank you forum !
  5. Yes - any paint in the grain will be tough to remove. I was thinking I would use a paint remover first and sand second. If it doesn't work, I will have wasted a lot of time but I can repaint. Again, thanks for the input - if anyone has tried this, I would appreciate hearing from you. And the re-veneer tip is appreciated - but I'm not comfortable enough with that process to tackle it.
  6. Thank you for the quick reply. Oak is not only hard to find, I'm finding it to be almost impossible due to my location in Canada and finding a seller willing to ship. I do have a line on a set of black 5.2's - refinishing will make for a nice project. Hopefully I don't uncover too many flaws. thanks again
  7. I've never seen the black cab's up close on the KG series speakers. I'm wondering if the KG 5.2 black finish can be removed down to a wood grain or in there no veneer under the black finish. This may be a dumb question but I'm having a very difficult time finding 5.2 or 4.5 speakers in Oak (or CF 1 or 2 for that matter) and I'm now looking at ways at getting around this problem. So, would Klipsch cover a wood grain with a black finish? Fat chance but I'd thought I'd ask. thanks
  8. I've been highjacked - still lookin' for those that are sellin' - my second option would be 5.2's in Oak - anyone???
  9. WTB - Pair of Oak finish KG 4.5's - I'm in Canada but will pay shipping from anywhere in the USA. I've seen a lot of black finish on ebay, however, I need to match up with my centre and surrounds that are in Oak (upgrading 3.5's). Please let me know your asking price - I'm prepared to buy immediately. My email is dcarter@mts.net thanks
  10. I have a KV-2 center channel speaker for sale that is 2 months old. I bought this speaker as new (old stock)2 months ago and have since upgraded to the KV-3. I'm looking for $150 USD. The speaker is like new - absolutely mint in all aspects. Thought I would run it by this group before I look at alternate methods of selling. I've never downloaded a pic on this forum befoe - hope it works - I can provide more pics and info if required. If interested, I can be reached at dcarter@mts.net thanks
  11. I had a friend tell me that Klipsch farmed out their components - being new to the Klipsch line up, I had to ask and I knew, without a doubt, I would get the facts from someone on this forum. Thanks for clarifing
  12. Can anyone tell me who makes the drivers in the KG series speakers?
  13. I like to thank you all for the informative feedback. I'm going to look into the purchase over the holidays. BTW, I live in Winnipeg, Canada - I don't anyone who owns Klipsch speakers let alone the Forte's. I have a few friends that are aware of the brand but know little about them other than reputation (which is positive in most cases). A few of your points that have helped me better understand are: - Controled Bass - this is a must for me and I was a little concerned about the 12" driver being a little sloppy. - smooth mid's - this is where I was having the most difficulty due to my zero experince with mid horns. I listen to mainly soft rock from the 70's/80's , ie; Steely Dan, Billy Joel, plus some of the newer stuff like Jack Johnson (and David Elias)and other mainly acoustic offerings. Most of these guys are into high quality production and I want speakers that will bring the best out of this type of music. Once again, thank you for the feedback and the offers for a listen (too bad I'm nowhere near most of you) -
  14. Thanks for the fast replys - I know I'm putting you all on the spot when asking a questions like this and it's difficult to answer without pointing out the obvious - Listen To Them!! Mr McGoo brought forward a point that I was going to ask... mid's via la horn. I've never heard mid's driven by a horn and I can't get my head around how it might sound - the more I think about it, the more I'm beginnig to realize that I will have to bite the bullet on a set of these to really get the answers I'm digging for. And as you have all pointed out, I've never heard of anyone here or else where saying they didn't like the Forte's - I'm just looking for a little bit more of a comfort level and you have helped provide it - again, thanks for your input. One final thought that I should have included in my original post... I love the 3.5's - for my listening, they deliver in every regard. I just have this itch to step up and I'm a believer in that bigger is not always better
  15. I'm looking at updrading my KG3.5's to Forte II's - my problem is I am relying on the reputation of the Forte's as being a significant upgrade. I do not have any way of hearing this line of speakers and if I am to buy, it will most likely be online. Now I realize this is a crazy way to purchase speakers but I like Klipsch and I want an upgrade - I simply do not have any way of hearing before buying. So, to avoid any replys that will tell me this is no way to buy speakers and that the sound of a speaker is a point of personal taste, can you help me out with opinions on how these two speakers differ and what I can expect from a set of forts over 3.5's? I apologize for asking the question that everyone hates to answer but I really need opinions - the risk of buying "sound unheard" is, of course, all mine. Much appreciated
  16. I'm running the 3.5's with KG 1.2's in the rear and a KV3 center - I'm very happy with this modest little set up. I was using a KV2 center but because I listen to multi channel music more than A/V, I found the KV2 (5.25 drivers) a bit too small for all the sound that SACD and DVD Audio seem to throw at the center. If you are looking at mainy home theater, the KV2 was a nice match. I chose the KG 1.2's because of their relatively small footprint - they will fit easily on high stands which was the route I had to go due to room limitations (couldn't use a low or floor standing in the rear). The 6.5 drivers on the 1.2's also matched up well with the KV3. And finally, I would not recommend the SS series for the rears when matched with KG's - this is only my opinion but they didn't match up that well (again, for multi-channel music). - I had the SS1's and switched them over to the KG 1.2's
  17. I just spent a few months searching for a big screen and I opted for CRT rear projection - this years hitachi was, in my opinion, the best picture out there (over every format) - they even brought the size down a bit. They are years beyond Sony (who seems to have given up on CRT's) - besides that, sony never did make a decent CRT - they actually borrowed guns from other manufacturers. Plasma, IMO, was horrible across the board
  18. OK - I didn't say I was doing this, only looking at the potential - but don't get me wrong - I really do appreciate the advice. I was flurting with this idea only because I have seen many any other speaker designs using approx the same size box with muliple drivers. Sometimes they are so crowded, they are almost overlaping each other. I thought maybe some one had experimented with this already and maybe there was potential. I do understand a lot of research goes into box design and component / xover selection - the experts would frown on anyone even contemplating messing with their designs. But like I said, there are a lot of very knowledgable members on this forum that may have tried what I was considering. Sounds like I was grasping at straws - I want to updrade and forte's are now becoming a clearer decision (just didn't want to spend the money right now) Many Thanks for your insight - very helpful
  19. Is it possible to add an additional driver to a speaker? To be more specific, can I add another 8" woofer to my KG 3.5's and be able to use the existing crossover? Would the box be big enough or is this suggestion totally out to lunch? I've never heard of this being done and an never see this question being brought up - most likely for very good reasons but I thought I would ask anyway. Wheres the entertainment in a forum without a good newb question every once and awhile??? thanks all -
  20. You'll pay GST plus brokerage fee's - UPS is the one carrier all Canadian's want to avoid if possible - they use there own brokerage house and it's a money maker for them. Because they are made in the US, you should avoid duty (and you pay duty regardless of new or used on product - depending of country of origin) - you might try to talk the seller into marking the customs paper work as "Gift" - you will then avoid all taxes. Hope that helps
  21. Adding weight to the speakers is something I never thought of and would be easy to try. Not that I'm looking for the easiest fix but it would be nice if that was all that was causing the problem. Spikes is another good idea (and so are all the other suggestions you have been good enough to mention) - I have a lot of things to try at this point - I'll report back for those that are curiouos - thanks again.
  22. Thanks for all the great feedback! Much apreciated! I'm still messin with placement and it looks as though I have to move them further away from the walls - my problem is I can't pull them out any more than a foot without infringing on space - although they sound better further out. Is there anything I can do behind the speaker if I were to leave them one foot away?
  23. OK - I'm going to dive into room placement info before asking any more questions - Lots to read - I'll be back with more questions once I've worked this angle thanks all
  24. Stands? I never considered stands on a speaker over 30" high - I assume you are referring to isolating the speaker from the floor in order to tighten up the base? Is there any truth to the claim that this helps? - I've also heard of people using spikes for similar reasons although I've never been able to understand how spikes, or stands for that matter, would help if the floor was solid to begin with. Can anyone elaborate a bit nmore on this? Once again, thanks for the feedback
  25. Could be the room, however, I never had the problem with my last set up which included Infinity speakers. Thanks for the advice - I'll review the info you are referring to.
