  2. if you run them in series as described earlier in the thread you should be alright as this will increase the total ohms of the 4 speakers say if you were running 2 pair of 8 ohm speakers in series they would theoretically be running at 16 ohms when wired in series Joe
  3. i just found this new and wonderful interconnect (socket) that makes the light brighter and lasts 5 times longer its silver coated brass and just think its only 395.99, connect this with that extra special powercord and my what a bright lamp you have Joe
  4. 5760677945, this is the ebay nomber for the auction, i dont need any more at this time but thought someone here may be looking for a set, i dont know the seller and have no interest in the sale, just passing along what seems like a good deal Joe

Bought Heresies from TBrennen couple of weeks ago, they're still in Chicago with DrWho. Have NO IDEA where they are all going to go. Still have a line on some Altec A7-8's which might be -500's as well. Michael it IS getting a tad bit out of hand. there won't be room for the most petite of girlfriends here when I get through. what is all of this for anyway? ---------------- hey michael, when you get your heresy's try setting them atop a pair of cornwalls in a corner i have this exact set up with 2 amps (1 runs the heresy)& (other runs the corns) sounds awsome, i dont have the risers on my heresys, this set up has to yeild sound at least close to k-horns, with the heresys brightness and the corns lows. WHAT A SOUND. i am going to try something a little different once i get to pick up my la scalas, will set them in the corners with a cornwall atop them see what that sounds like??????? Joe
  6. 5760528881, check out these home made belle cabinets on ebay someone did a nice job building these, looks like you could put togeather a nice pair of replica belles Joe

This treasure hunt for Heritage is surely a type of sickness, Heritagitis, Klipschfobia, adventerous though it may be. When will it end.... La Scala.... KHorn.... and on and on. But it sounds like a good idea to use transportation other than Windstars!! Shipping Bose cubes sure looks appealing - nah! Lets load up and don't forget the coffee, I've got Belles to pick up. ---------------- hey dont knock windstars i made it home at least and remember i went 93 miles at night using the lights on a single wal mart battery HA HA, let me see a chevy top that. i would rather tie my heritage to my back and carry them home than have bose delivered FREE. but of course heritage are rather large and i bet i could come up with a plan to attach axles and a crude drive mechanism, lean left or right to steer(kinda like skate boarding in the old days) yea thats the ticket now how to stop Joe
  11. michael i concur with the empty wallet, mine is actually in the hole, i bought 1977 la scalas, that were updated at some point with k-55M drivers and the AL crossovers, i have to drive 400 miles to pick them up in new york, i was planning on going this weekend but the weather was supposed to be bad so i rescheduled for next weekend, i got the birch cabinets but i have to reveneer the top and face of at least 1 of the pair, price before trip to pick them up was 838.00, not a bad price considering the retail and resale value, i thought the ones you bought were awsome looking and i thought the buy now was fair on them, when will you be picking them up?( by the way there was another set just listed on ebay of the industrial type although not like yours more like the normal type however beat up pretty good in ) thought i would tell you in case you need a couple more HE HE HE HE Joe
  12. now that all is said and done and i have had plenty of time to listen i can say without a doubt the speakers are worth all the fun picking them up, only problem now is i just bought a set of la scalas 400 miles away and have to go get them i can honestly say i do not hope for a trip like the last. also colter i see you are in for a short trip yourself nice score on the industrial la scalas Joe
  13. congrads colter i see you bought the la scalas, pretty unique set let us know how they sound Joe
  14. i hought they were pretty nice also, really not that bad a price either IMO, i didnt realize the la scala was built like the corner horn shape inside the square box thats pretty cool to know Joe
  15. : 5760374925, hey guys take a look at these la scalas, how is it possiable for these to sound like the original type la scalas with so much of the box cut away, pretty cool though Joe
  16. ---------------- On 3/11/2005 3:38:02 PM tidmack wrote: Joe, When I mentioned the driver and crossover thing in the other thread, I didn't necessarily mean it as a negative. I tend to gravitate toward originality and I especially love the AA network that were originally in your 'Scalas. But as others have pointed out, they're going to sound Excellent no matter what!! Best of luck with your new speaks- Jeff ---------------- i gravitate twords all original also i will tell the truth and say i was a little dissappointed to find they were not original after all, however the first opinion has began to wear abit, and i cant wait to get them home and see how they sound, of course you know it had to snow all weekend in ny, so i cant go pick them up till next weekend now thanks for all the input guys Joe
  17. 430 cd's, 650 cassettes, 1500 albums, and 20 reel to reels. and still buying when i find something i like, about 12 years ago i thought i would get away from music and sold off most of my collection, over half my cd's, all my albums, and all my tapes, and my stereo. I went without for 10 years, a couple years ago i ran across a complete vintage pioneer setup for a low 400.00, found a pair of at 15 cerwin vegas for 200, and i got the bug again i had to move and sold that gear to a friend after getting situated again in a new place i went nuts and as you can see below now have a pretty nice system IMO i also recently bought a pair of la scalas(havent picked them up yet, 800 mile round trip, but its snowing in new york so i had to put off the trip till next week) when the music strikes it hits hard and wont let up Joe

The LaScala really shines when the squaker is tamed and room matched by Al's design. The first thing to do is damp the K-400s. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=268-020"'>This from Parts Expressa> is what I used on mine. It is much easier to use on a LaScala than rope caulk, no need to remove the horn. I also plan to add it to the top wooden panels and inside the bass bin before I put the Las into daily service. Rick ---------------- thanks for the ideas rick i will keep them in mind after i get these here. Joe
  19. yes i also receeived a message from bec with the same info, i will get them home and see what i can hear, these things broke me to the bone pocket wise so i caant even think about upgrades at this point i just want to enjoy the sound everyone says these smoke cornwalls as far as sound goes, and in the end thats what it is all about, i do prefer my gear be original but with speakers this old they were almost bound to be tweaked, or repaiired at some point, seems rare to get completely original, and mint. and of course if you do find that the price will reflect that condition. thanks for the input Joe
  20. ok bob thanks for that what would be your opinion of the differance between the aa crossover and the al crossover also the k 55 m drivers, i purchased a pair and now see that they have the al, and the k 55m. i am partial to having my gear all original but i will of course get these home and see what the sound is like but just wander if i have been kinda hoodwinked on this deal, could this have been considered a upgrade at some point? Joe
  21. hello just trying to find out what the original crossover and mid driver would have been for a set of 1977 scalas thanks Joe
  22. ---------------- On 3/8/2005 8:59:19 PM tidmack wrote: Joe, Are the 'Scalas you bought the ones in the link at the beginning of the thread? If not, please disregard my previous statements. If yes, check out the pic that shows the rear of one speaker. . .it shows a k55m and an AL network, which isn't right for a serial number "R" from '77. It's not a big deal, they're still klipsch parts. I just didn't know if anyone else noticed this. Take care, Jeff ---------------- hello you are right i didnt notice the pic of the rear was more interested in the desc. and the 2 places where the veneer was sanded thru, however i did post a ? in tech where there seems to be a difference of opinion, that the al crossover is indeed the original according to 3 other forum members, i didnt bother asking about the driver as it would be common to change out a driver if one failed and klipsch probably wouldnt have had the original(dont know), also i looked up other la scalas from around that time period and they also had the al crossovers and one had the k55m driver in it, i dont know all the specks of what came in what when so i kinda rely on the members knowledge here Joe
  23. hey guys i really appreciate the input, i was only going by what another forum guy said he made mention that he saw the sale advertised and that the crossovers were not original, he said that the speaker should have the aa crosovers, he also said looks as though the mid driver was an updated one, i had no plans of messing with them just yet, i totally beleive in hearing before dismantleing, i was concerned i may have got a pair someone had rigged up sounds like the other forum member was mis informed i appreciate all the feedback Joe
  24. what would be the difference between these 2 crossovers and how would they affect a pair of la scalas differently, recent purchase of a pair of 1977 & has the al crossover as i understand they should have the AA. am i going to be losing sound or was this considered an upgrade thanks joe
  25. ---------------- On 3/8/2005 7:19:09 AM Myhamish wrote: Congratulations are in order. Way to go! This gives you some interesting options. One theory way back in the '70's was 'more violins sounds better than 1 big violin' ( - if you like those screechy glorified fiddles in the first place ). Anyway, this led to a lot of people doubling up on their speakers particularly Advents on each channel. Quadraphonic was popular then and some quad receivers (HK 900+) had quad or doubled stereo power options so power and quantity of speakers wasn't an issue. Theory being if you've got twice the tweeters, midrange and etc - each speaker is only doing half the work - with less strain and distortion being the result. Getting back to your collection now, I'd be interested in hearing your impressions on doubling up (particularly on the Cornwalls because they would be matched) if you were so inclined. BTW, you've got some great vintage equipment listed. So way to go, Joe! ---------------- hey hamish, i had the corns stacked once and the sound was awsome but i had a problem with all that speaker in my small room if i turned up the volume much i got distortion from my TT, at low volume the tt acted fine but just a click to much and the horriable noise was on, i would have to figure out a way to isolate the turntable from the speakers and really have no where to do that, thanks for the support to all i will be leaving sat night to pick these up on sun morning want to get back here before it gets to late so i can hook these babies up and see if the hype is true( as i am confident it is ) Joe
