    What are you moving to?

I got an Audio Gd Master 7, it uses 8 of the PCM 1704 UK chips in a Ladder (R2R) Design, It has a LOT of adjustability. 1,2, 4, or 8X Oversampling, Or you can set it as NOS, Several filter options as well. it also has 6 inputs. USB, 12s, AES, BNC, Coax, and Optical. Very Versatile. Put a couple hours on it yesterday and so far it is very nice in NOS. Lots of variations to try yet. It was AGD's TOTL DAC with all attention paid to sound

  2. SOLD Bought as a dealer demo, It actually stayed while other dacs went away. It sounds very good IMHO. Tube and SS output. Price for established Forum members is 700.00 plus the ride and fees ( Retail on the DAC was 1800.00 ). The dac looks and functions as new.  Comes with original double boxing and packing as well as all the accessories as new. I am also including a spare NOS (military grade) Rectifier that I thought sounded much better. It will include the stock output 12au7 tubes.

ESTABLISHED FORUM MEMBERS PM ME IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A VERY GOOD DAC AT A VERY LOW PRICE, SO LOW I ONLY WANT TO SELL TO SOMEONE THAT WILL USE IT NOT FLIP IT FOR PROFIT.  I have owned at least 1dozen dacs, to include Schiit Bifrost, Bifrost Multibit, Yggy, Centrance, Altmann, Audio Gd NFB, Border Patrol SE, Border Patrol SEI, Wavelength Cosecant, and a few others that do not currently come to mind. This DAC competes or outright outperforms all those mentioned

If voltage swings are your issue, look at the PS Audio regenerators. I have an older Premiere model that corrects the incoming voltage and reduces line distortion. You can actually see on the display what the incoming voltage and THD is and see what the unit outputs. I don't run my amp into it, but some of the larger ones would be ok for a small wattage tube amp.

Voltage swings are part of the problem, The other part is noise on the lines, power loss and the surges created when comes back on. I will look at the PS audio though  thanks

So you're going to charge the batteries with some kind of charger off the power coming into the house then convert(invert) the battery power back to AC with an inverter with the desired result that the voltage from the inverter wiil be constant?

basically, but the batteries will not be charging while using the system. The system while playing will be powered by batteries to invertor making for a super clean constant reliable voltage. The biggest ? is how long will the batteries maintain charge for listening. I know you can go days in a camper. The couple pieces I have had over the years that used 12 VDC batteries could play for weeks without a charge.

What's the inverter run off of?

2 each 12 volt AGM batteries wired in parallel , that the invertor converts to 120 VAC

Woofers and Tweeters would just suggest that you move.

I would be happy to move, but the wife and boys not so much. My oldest was just accepted into an Early Collage program where he can graduate High School with a Diploma and a 2 year collage degree. We have to stay in the county for that program which is IMHO a superb program.

What about a big computer-type batter backup? You cold try battery by unplugging from the wall, and when storms hit it would give you plenty of time to power down. Size the system to last 15-20 minutes and it could do double duty testing all battery playback and failsafe when the power goes out.

Last time I looked into one of those they were quite expensive, The invertor I need is under 500.00 I already have agm batteries in my Dads Diesel truck so easy to test with only buying the invertor, I do appreciate the suggestion though

  7. Thanks Rich

Seems like solar would be better regulated power than typical line power. I would think the invertor would put out a steady voltage. I assume it would depend on the type invertor  though. I am looking at a PURE Sine Wave style invertor.

Locally it seems like if the wind blows we lose power. I am always unplugging every time I think it might go out.  I am fairly confident in this projects ability to perform well. More as a way to have a better regulated supply than as a way to affect SQ but we will see

  8. Listening to Danny Richie at GR Research discuss Power Cables and how he set up his main system using AGM batteries. I have had a few pieces over the years that used 12 volt batteries for power, It was thought that was a cleanest power available for the product. Several HIGH end companies rely on Battery power for there wares. I was just thinking why not set up an Invertor similar to an RV setup to power my system. All I would need is a couple deep cycle AGM batteries and something like a 3000 watt invertor. This would power a pair of tube mono amps, a single Digital SS amp, a Tube Pre-amp, aa tube Dac, and a computer.......................Plug my current Balanced power supply into the invertor and my components into the invertor

Seems straight forward, I get away from the voltage swings that range between 119 and 126 here locally, I get away from the what seems like constant power failures and the surges they cause upon restoration of power. It would cost MUCH less than even a modest power conditioner / surge protector.

Anyone doing something like this ? wouldn't this also be akin to a solar setup ?  They take solar power convert it to DC and that is fed into an invertor to power the whole house. Anyone on full solar power ? has it improved SQ or created issues ?

    Thanks Joe

  9. The Tubes included are
AMP:  a NOS Pair of MESA 6l6GC, & RCA 12BH7a (NOS as well) under 50 hours total play time
Power supply:  Vintage RCA OC3, Motorola label (RCA) 12ax7,  EH 5u4 rectifier, and a vintage RCA 6as7g Power supply tubes also have approx 50 hours.

  10. Ive done both, swapping left and right of the horn monos, and tried different all together. I have used the same track and the sine waves. It has not presented itself again. Loose connection ? what ever it was everything sounds fine now

I've seen, as I am sure you have, that new doesn't always mean functioning properly... specially on parts that you, as the builder, didn't make yourself.

    I'm just sayin.

Mike Sanders supposedly listens and tests each amp prior to leaving his shop. I am sure though a part could fail. but as everything sounds fine I am thinking it was a fluke more than anything

  11. Come on Maynard get with the NEW view that says "Government intervention into your life is  OK"

Hell we all know the government only does things above board and for the betterment of man kind. You old guys just dont get it.........................OOOOOoooooHHHHHHH I am one of those old guys 😵, And I live in North Carolina Regrettably.......................................I do however speak my mind where ever I may be,  both my boys have been taught to FREE THINK................I pray some of it has sunk in. there's something about picking up

vinyl.. you can hold in your hand read it and enjoy the art work..

And when playing vinyl , your committed to at least listening to one side.. And cleaning the vinyl..also

And with all play back your sound will very..

I can't tell anybody how they hear sound... Only you can...

I personally think Vinyl still has the edge in SQ when in the right setup, Thats not really at debate. I am wondering with the current trend of sellers getting CRAZY with prices.  How long some might think the trend can be maintained before the trend collapses again, this time mainly over the pricing ?

  13. I dont stream either, I do not have decent internet service to allow streaming. I have though Ripped a LOT of CD and have music stored on a hard drive which is use for 90+ percent of my source. The advantage to this is of course I can choose my DAC, and I have 10,000 CD but a mouse click away and they will fit in the palm of my hand.

In 83 I was in Germany and I ditched vinyl at the time as well. I have however picked it back up a few times. On the proper setup I find vinyl can be as quiet as a CD with no background noise. In those cases the Sound Quality is superior. Though IMHO it is not 400.00 for the vinyl version VS 30.00 for the File / Disc superior (Diminishing returns and all that)

Makes me think about selling my collection before they wake up.

I sold my last large collection back when I was injured at work and by todays standards I took a BEATING, I am constantly seeing LP I sold going for 10 to 20 X what I got. Hell I sold out again just over a year ago and some of those Prices have doubled+

I did not learn my lessons well though as every time a good TT Setup pops up for sale at a good price I am pulled right back into the mix. I currently have a VPI TNT 3.5 with Graham 2.0 tonearm and, Zu Denon 103, along with various other upgrades. This time I told myself I will only BUY HIGH QUALITY vinyl, 180 gram, MFSL etc... I have approximately 60 Lp.  Those LP on the TNT sound simply superb

  14. Been Pondering this myself lately, I just can not understand the INSANE prices of vinyl even at places like Walmart. I personally grew up with Vinyl, I also lean to the sound of analog. While in the past I would have argued the virtues of vinyl. I must admit that with some of the new DAC's it is easy to get VERY CLOSE to the analog sound of VINYL. So close infact why would anyone pay hundreds of dollars for a piece of vinyl when the file costs 15 - 30.00  be it download or actual DISC

This leads me to think, eventually people will wake up to reality.   What say you ?

  15. First setup:

    Speakers NEW 97.8db 1w1m, 18" single driver, ( https://www.lii-audio.com/product/one-pair-18-inch-full-range-speakers-superb-scale-soundstage-with-new-imaging-f-18/)

Amps are NEW Quicksilver Horn Monos,  (http://quicksilveraudio.com/products/horn-mono-amp/ )

Pre is Schiit Sys Passive, (https://www.schiit.com/products/sys)

Source is Line Magnetic LM502ca DAC, (https://www.line-magnetic.eu/images/line-magnetic/pdf/Manual-LM-502CA-web.pdf)

Scenario: Listening to this setup last night John Lee Hooker, The Healer, "Dream" At approk 40 seconds John sings Dreeeeeeeeaaaaaaammmmmmm its rather low tone wise, I get distortion from the left speaker. I replay that same part of the song and the distortion repeats same as before, I try it a few more times and every time same results. I switch tracks to some recorded Sine Waves I Have and that speaker goes crazy buzzing / distorting. The other driver sounds fine no issues at all. I am thinking bad driver at this point so I clean the gap on the driver Try the tones again and the problem remains. I give up for the night resigned to the fact I will need a replacement driver

This morning I remove the drivers from the baffles and decide to try them open air, Problem remains much as it was the night before. I decide to swap drivers from side to side fully expecting the problem to switch sides. IT DOES NOT, The issue remained on the left. Damn must be a NEW tube swap the power tubes Problem stays on the left side. Swap the driver tubes, problem stays on the left side. That leaves the amp itself.  I swap amps and the problem is gone.......................😒

Now the question. as the Drivers are very sensitive and the amps have LOW Gain one would think match made in heaven. With the little SYS Passive and the volume at 90+ percent of max. Could the amp be clipping ?  Why wouldn't both amps Clip at more or less the same point ?

I put this setup together HOPING for a single source with no gain other than the amps, and as short a chain as possible.

Thoughts appreciated, before I contact Mike Sanders I was hoping someone here might have some insight

    Joe
