  1. wait...  did I drop my scum bag?

garyc - nice post, well said.  Not sure I am on the same plain, as I guess I don't always expect the concert quality sound as if I was in the optimal seat in the Vienna State Opera hall.  I like music.  And before you criticize me for starting a sentence with a conjunction, I have been to Vienna.

  2. Ok, this thread is not about debating the greatness of the Beatles....  they where great.  The question is after the separation all four of the people who are considered members of the "Beatles" who's solo career have you enjoyed most as this point.  For this thread that definition would be John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.  Clearly John and George have since left this earth.  This thread is not about poo pooing other members but more about being a Beatle fan and then talking about which artist you liked better as a solo artist.  My wife is a huge Beatles fan.

For me it is George Harrison and with that said I dislike "Cloud Nine".  His early post Beatle albums are just well.....  Top Notch.  I think he grew so much and his guitar playing is subtle not blending greatness.

  3. Music lover only, and I can prove it.

I have not changed any settings,  electronics or speakers in years but have listened to plenty of music. My choice of speakers are the one's playing, not necessarily the best I have.

Yeah, no offence, you like music and a great sound system.  But that said, really what would be the point of a great stereo system or home theater if you didn't enjoy the media.  Having a system that produce "waves" or "tones" at precise frequencies mean nothing to me.

Its like talking about a great guitar player.  Sure they can move their fingers very fast but are they musical?

  4. If you are in a friend's car and hear a great song by Dream Theater you have not heard in a long time... Do you:

    1)  Say this sound system sucks.

    2)  Think this song rocks, reach over and turn it up and start playing air guitar and sing along.

    3)  Punch the driver in the ribs cause you just saw a VW bug.

    4)  Wish the DAC was better.

    5)  Ask how much longer until we reach Arby's.

  5. Got news for you guys.. the PC affects the sound, the power supply, the hard drive, the operating system.  It was shocking to me that loading a different OS (but with exact same player install) on the exact same hardware could be different.  The more processes you can eliminate and the leaner the OS the better the sound.   Change any piece of the hardware and I can only make a guess at why there is a change... such as some bit of noise is introduced/reduced/eliminated as a result of the hardware change.  Something that can be measured or not?  Don't know... I just listen and if nothing irritates my ears I'm happy and back to listening to the music.  Yeah, it's all subjective and you don't have to dig into this stuff like I did if you don't want.  I'd be better off if I would concentrate more of my effort on my room as it certainly has some problems... some of which cannot be solved such as furniture that can't be moved.

I have a HRT streamer II+ on my shop set up... I'll be trying out the USB REGEN on that some time in the future.  That will be an interesting test.

Agreed in as much as the type and quality of oil impacts the sound in your oil caps.  That oil is old by way, you should replace it and use Mobil one for Rice Sakes!

  6. I like red meat, music, with a nice glass of California cabernet, post making love to the wife and her falling asleep so I can just have control listening to songs I want (actually our tastes don't differ too much, but she more a Dan Fan than I) to.  If I was any good it can be a decent volume with no complaints.

  7. Why would I use a PC ? As to being a salesman I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be the place to sell it . If what guys are using makes you happy use it and enjoy it .

Wait, you're a salesmen...??  What exactly are you selling.  Also providing the price helps.

  8. I use a Music Streamer II +  by HRT audio. which takes over the audio from the hardware sound card.  I really enjoy the fact when using a PC for audio of having a great sounding external DAC.  I also have an external HD (USB 3.0) which contains my FLAC files w/ META data.  Easy to back up with multiple copies, no jitter assuming the original rip was done correctly (seriously when moving to a pure digital collection, don't take short cuts, take your time, just burns you in the end if you don't) and sounds great.  I won't loose this music until I die.  If the PC dies, I loose nothing related to audio, just insert a new machine and roll.

  9. Cornwall vs. RF7s...  Well do you have the space for console style speakers.  To me Cornwall's are warmer, the RF7 in original form do great (as mentioned above) with a sub in my opinion as that tweeter can sing at volumes.  That tweeter is different that a Cornwall.  You should listen to both.  I believe the set up and the room will impact the sound more than the choice of the two, but that set up should drive the selection.  I believe the RF7s are a bit more forgiving in terms of placement, but I am concerned that you won't be able to let either one shine in a condo, unless the space is there.  Please no ferns or other plants on either speaker.  Enjoy your new home.
