  1. Roxy Music 'Live at the Apollo' DVD Of all the music I have heard, of all the music I have every owned...... This is my all time favorite. The precision that Roxy Music has in this concert just has to be seen to believe. http://www.bryanferry.com/roxy_dvd.html'>http://www.bryanferry.com/roxy_dvd.html http://www.bryanferry.com/ Satisfying endless speculation and voracious interest, Roxy Music undertook a world tour in 2001, in their first live performances together for 18 years, based around the classic line-up of vocalist Bryan Ferry, saxophonist Andy Mackay and guitarist Phil Manzanera. This video was recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo on 1st October 2001 and marked the closure of the tour. The penultimate Strand at the Apollo http://archive.digitalroutes.co.uk/roxy/largeimages/penultimatedts.jpg Bryan on stage at the Apollo http://archive.digitalroutes.co.uk/roxy/largeimages/bryanapollo4.jpg Although Roxy Music is not known in many parts of the world the band includes some of the greatest musicians around. Phil Manzanera for example: http://www.manzanera.com/biog2.htm He is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading guitarists and is in much demand both as a performer and record producer, especially of Spanish-speaking artists. 6PM, released 19 July 2004, is Manzanera's sixth solo album and is released on Hannibal Records. As a writer, producer and solo artist, Phil Manzanera has worked with many of the luminaries of modern music, such as Steve Winwood, David Gilmour, John Cale, Godley and Creme, Nico (Velvet Underground) and John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia). He has co-written material with many artists, including Brian Eno, Tim Finn, Robert Wyatt and David Gilmour. Manzanera co-wrote Pink Floyd's single 'One Slip' from their 1988 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' album. In the 90's Manzanera performed in concerts all over the world, including 'Guitar Legends', the five day guitar festival in Seville where he was musical director for the event as well as playing with Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Jack Bruce and Richard Thompson. Phil has also played in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, France Italy and the UK, including a ten date European tour with the Cuban band, Grupo Moncada. He played in WOMAD festivals in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Phil ended the 20thCentury by appearing with Bryan Ferry at the British Gas Millennium Concert at Greenwich, the first time they had performed together in 18 years. Paul Thompson has to be the best drummer I have ever heard. http://www.roxyrama.com/biographies/index_biographies-frameset.html http://www.roxyrama.com/interactive/bryan-ferry-roxy-music-links-frameset.html The 'Live at the Apollo'concert shown on the DVD was going to be their concert ever! Turns out after a number of years they just had to go back on tour. Yes they are back again. This is one DVD you will want to turn on Closed Caption... Brain Ferry writes some interesting lyrics! 2. The Commitments, "The Commitments", CD & DVD, Irish Soul Deco (Andrew Strong) the lead singer was only 16 years old when this Tom Hanks movie was made. The soundtrack is great and features deep soul sound that is very pleasing to the ears. Song #9 Do Right Woman, Do Right Man is one of my favorite songs on this CD. Song #4 The Dark End of the Street is powerful and 100% soulful. I bought both the CD soundtrack and DVD movie. One of Tom Hanks greatest movies and just plain great music on the CD. If you like soul then you will love this one. Online Review: http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/movie.html?v_id=10547 PLOT DESCRIPTION "The Irish are the blacks of Europe, Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland, and the North Siders are the blacks of Dublin ... so say it loud -- I'm black and I'm proud!" Or so Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins) tells his slightly puzzled friends as he tries to assemble a rhythm & blues show band in a working class community in Dublin in Alan Parker's film The Commitments. Jimmy is a would-be music business wheeler and dealer, and he's decided what Dublin needs is a top-shelf soul band. However, top-shelf soul musicians are hard to find in Dublin, so he has to make do with what he can find. However, after a long round of auditions, Jimmy makes two inspired discoveries: Deco (Andrew Strong), an abrasive and alcoholic streetcar conductor who nevertheless has a voice like the risen ghost of Otis Redding, and Joey "The Lips" ***an (Johnny Murphy), a horn player who knows soul music backwards and forwards and claims to have played with everyone from Wilson Pickett to Elvis Presley. Before long, the band -- called the Commitments -- is packing them in at local clubs. But do they have what it takes to make the big time? Based on the novel by Roddy Doyle, who also co-wrote the screenplay, The Commitments is sparked by fine performances by its young cast and enthusiastic performances of a number of '60s soul classics; the cast, who play their own instruments, reassembled the band for a concert tour after the film became a hit. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide Greg
  3. Sins of Harold Diddlebock (1947) Starring: Harold Lloyd, Frances Ramsden Some really great lines in that movie. Harold Lloyd was famous in silent movies and this was his first "talky". When Harold gets fired it is a classic. His boss told him that when his father ran the company he fired anyone over the age or 30 many of whom would die their hair and come back to work as their own son's. At least that is how I remember that line. I had the movie on VHS tape long ago and it is one I need to replace in my collection. Greg

Editorial Reviews Amazon.com America's pastime gets a Faustian twist in this 1958 studio musical, which recounts the ballpark bargain struck by an aging Washington Senators fan obsessed with helping his team trump the Yanks. With echoes of the real-life 1919 Shoeless Joe Jackson scandal, and tart observations on the tradeoffs between youth and experience, Damn Yankees fuses a classic dramatic dilemma with musical comedy to often charming effect. In transferring George Abbott's Broadway hit to the screen, codirectors Abbott and Stanley Donen are smart enough to retain Richard Adler and Jerry Ross's clever songs, Bob Fosse's sizzling choreography (with Fosse himself on camera for the sultry mambo number), and stars Ray Walston and Gwen Verdon, reprising their devilish turns as the Horned One himself, Mr. Applegate, and his temptress, Lola. Where the team strikes out, unfortunately, is in their concession to marquee politics, handing the pivotal role of Joe Hardy to handsome, vapid, celluloid heartthrob Tab Hunter, whose thin voice and unsteady screen presence argue that he should have stayed in the dugout. Walston is reliably spry and acerbic as the canny archangel, and Verdon, in one of her rare starring screen turns, confirms the comedic timing and sexy, muscular grace that made her a deserved draw in subsequent stage hits including another Fosse triumph, Sweet Charity. With her combination of feline grace and alternately steely, flirtatious femininity, Verdon makes you believe her when she sings, "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets." --Sam Sutherland Greg

  8. Brahms, Hungarian Dances, Classical, CD Composer: Brahms, Johannes Conductor: Alfred Scholz / London Festival Orchestra Title: Ungarische Tanze Nr. 1-21 / Hungarian Dances 1-21 © 1988 PMG Pilz Media Group - CD 160 201 Made in W. Germany VERY RARE For many years a lot of my Classical collection has been stored away. At some point in my past I lost my good sound system and until I got my Klipsch setup I really saw no need to play anything Classical. Really Classical is the ultimate test for any audiophile. Classical pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich and Antonin Dvorák for example are very soft in many places but you have to be ready for the big bang when the music changes. To hear that note flying high above ever so softly you need Klipsch! Greg
  9. Those were my wife's top 15 country picks. I do like them as well. Greg
  10. This is risk and you are correct that Klipsch warranty would not apply. With this in mind I could see someone on Ebay selling a set they got for Christmas or a birthday that has been un-opened. I have seen a few were someone got a set from a parent or other family memember but when they saw the size of the box they put it on Ebay. Usually the line "I live in a small apartment". If the above is true in the add you just made on hell of a deal provided the price it right. Don't get me wrong, if I saw a set of 4.1's or 2.1's for $20.00 I would pick them up as long as the shipping was in line and the user had good feedback. Still risky but at an amount I could stand to lose. Greg
  11. My order just came in when I got home tonight. These CD's are even better than I thought they would be. The re-mastered sound it great. I mean really great. I love a crisp clean sounding horn. Listening to Herb Alpert in full digital is wonderful! Four of the five were newly re-mastered this year! This is some of the greatest music every recorded. 12. DOC GIBBS & PICANTE', "Servin' it up HOT", JAZZ Baby!!!, CD I really like song #2 "Hilda's Lullaby". Great ZAZZ that sounds smooth as ZAZZ should be. I actually bought the CD when I picked up a set of steak knives and some other items for my wife from the Food Network. http://www.smooth-jazz.de/Artists4/Gibbs.htm Doc Gibbs is one of the most sought after percussionists in the music industry today. Whether he's recording, touring or kickin' it up a notch with Emeril Lagasse. Doc musically operates on an audience with funky rhythms and with his vast assortment of traditional and unusual percussion instruments. Doc received his so-called "Doc"-torate from the late, legendary jazz saxophonist, Grover Washington, Jr. While recording Grover's Live at the Bijou album in 1976, Grover acknowledged Doc for prescribing an herbal remedy for a nasty cold that Grover was suffering from the night before taping. Over night, Leonard Gibbs became Doc when Grover announced to his audience, "...There are two doctors in Philly...Dr.J (of the 76ers) and Doctor Gibbs." A nickname that appropriately describes a musician who truly performs with the precision of a surgeon. Doc's love of hand drums and percussion instruments began in the early seventies, when he left the Pennsylvania Academy of Fines Art to pursue his real dream - a career as a master percussionist. Early in his career, Doc immediately caught the attention of the music industry's top artists, to include George Benson, Nancy Wilson, Bob James, Al Jarreau send Anita Baker, to name a few. Most recently, Doc's percussive reputation has placed him in the studio with Wyclef Jean, Erykah Badu, Eric Benet and hot r&b producer, James Poyser, among others. BAM!!! The icing on the cake for Doc came in 1997, when he became the musical director for Emeril Live! -- The hottest cooking show on the cable Food Network (TVFN). Doc has been beating it up to a Manhattan television studio to add his funky flavors of hand drums and signature percussion instruments for a little extra spice into the pots of cooking guru, Emeril Lagasse. " Doc has brought a new dimension to solidifying an element to the show...a relationship, a sound, a movement." -Emeril Lagasse, "The Making of Emeril" TV Special (TVFN) Doc is also an elected member of the Board of Governors of N.A.R.A.S. (National Association of Recording Artists and Sciences), Philadelphia chapter. He performs drum workshops for children with Young Audiences of Eastern Pennsylvania and the Strings for Schools Organizations. His new album, "Servin' It Up! Hot!" , has been nationally released in June 2002. On Docs debut album, Doc Gibbs & Picante - Servin It Up! Hot! he has invited more of his friends to join him. Servin It Up is boasting the artistry of contemporary jazz recording artist, Gerald Abright on saxophone, guitarist, Felicia Collins of The David Letterman Late Night Band, jazz violinist, John Blake (Locksmith) bassist, Gerald Veasley (Heads up Records), and the incomparable jazz vocalist, Jon Lucien. Servin It Up is a magical journey of live musicians that is sure to satisfy the appetite of an audience which has been waiting for this highly anticipated musical project. The album was produced by Doc Gibbs, and co-writing all of the songs on the cd, is Cliff Starkey, his musical partner on the Emeril Live Show. The lush song, Salvador Bahia, was written by producer/drummer, Ted Thomas Jr. And Jon Lucien performs his soulful brand of vocal styling on this beautiful ballad that will bathe you in the tropical rhythms of Brazil. Gerald Albrights funky style of play is cool and captivating on the. tune, Seven Up, Six Down. Felicia Collins rocks her guitar on the hard driving groovilicious tune, Starline and with his keyboards, Cliff Starkey tells a pretty story on the composition, Hildas Lullaby. Doc Gibbs solo debut, Servin It Up, is a plate full of live funky rhythms that will take you on delicious musical journey that will certainly leave you asking for seconds! Greg
  13. Andreas Vollenweider, "White Winds", NewAge, CD While normally found in the NewAge area this CD is not really NewAge. Vollenweider is actually pop, jazz, and classical. One of the best songs Vollenweider ever did is on the White Winds CD. 3. 'Glass Hall (Choose The Crystal), The / Play Of The Five Balls, The / Five Planets, The / Canopy Choir' Tomorrow 06/14/05 Andreas Vollenweider is releasing a new CD. Magic Harp: The Very Best of Andreas Vollenweider http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/vollenweider_andreas/artist.jhtml Andreas Vollenweider was one of the few musicians to gain superstar status as a "new age artist" back when the term was first used as a marketing category in the mid-'80s. The Swiss harpist, however, quickly transcended the need for alternative record sales when his albums simultaneously broached Billboard's pop, jazz, and classical charts in 1986. Born in Zurich in 1953, Vollenweider was ensconced in the city's fine art scene, courtesy of his father, one of Europe's leading organists. After becoming proficient on guitar, flute, and other instruments, the young Vollenweider developed a passion for the harp, which he modified to suit his needs. Not only did he construct a damper to expedite more rhythmic playing, he broadened the harp's tonal range by electrifying it. His buoyant funk beats, exotic pan-cultural influences, and colorful harp improvisations began to sweep Europe in the early '80s as Vollenweider signed with CBS Records to release Behind the Gardens...Behind the Wall. Three albums later, he won his first Grammy for 1987's Down to the Moon. Over the years, Vollenweider has managed to maintain his artistic integrity and vision despite increasing commercial success. The harpist's 1991 album Book of Roses is a testament to his ability to expand his scope as a composer while keeping his trademark sound intact; after a lenghty hiatus, he issued Kryptos in 1998, followed two years later by Cosmopoly. ~ Linda Kohanov, All Music Guide Greg
  14. That is one great movie. To bad it is not 5.1. The sounds that Don Knotts made as a fish to notify the navy of subs would be great in 5.1. Still a worthy movie for any collection. Great classic! Greg
  15. My wife bought thist move for me as a present and I have enjoyed watching all 2 hours and 41 minutes of it several times. I remember my parents taking me to see this movie when it came out in 1963! The 5.1 sound is great with my Klipsch 5.1 Promedia Ultra's. The widescreen is great on my 21' Nokia monitor. For those who have never seen this movie. If you were in star in 1963 and was not asked to be in this movie you begged to be part of it. Jack Benny for example has two lines in this movie. Jerry Lewis ran over a hat. The cast listing is like a who who in show business. The lines in the movie are clasic. Spencer Tracy didn't like to rehearse and would read through a scene only once, 5 days before shooting. As he told director Stanley Kramer, he never liked to do a scene more than once. And as one of the greatest actors of all time....he rarely had to. Starring: Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Dick Shawn, Phil Silvers, Terry Thomas, Jonathan Winters, Alan Carney, Barrie Chase, William Demarest, Andy Devine, Peter Falk, Norman Fell, Paul Ford, Sterling Holloway, Edward Everett Horton, Marvin Kaplan, Buster Keaton, Don Knotts, Charles McGraw, Zasu Pitts, Carl Reiner, Madlyn Rhue, Arnold Stang, The Three Stooges, Jesse White Director: Stanley Kramer Edition: Widescreen (16:9) Rating: G Run Time: 2 hours 41 minutes Release Date: 10/7/2003 Studio: MGM Home Entertainment Walmart has it for $9.44. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2459805&sourceid=24117839141668456663 Greg
