  1. All the more reason to treat the room and concentrate on placement, location etc. The material I listen to 50% of the time will rip your face off if it's not tamed.
  2. I think you need to use the DSP to get the sound you want..........hence, getting a better sound suited for your room.[Y]
  3. I hear you......I'm not disagreeing..I agree..Not sure why this keeps being brought up...cause I don't disagree. JB. How is it that I have had 3 amps with the same setup that sound wonderful with the same songs and then the XTi didn't? Is it the room w/o treatments? Treatments effecting one amp more than the others? How does that work? This isn't sarcasm...maybe you fellas are looking at it diiferently than I. jc JC.........Were you using the DSP?
  4. Oh......I think Crowns and tubes can co-exist without scratching each other's eyeballs out.[8-)] Someday, I would like to try some nice tubes on the highs and keep the Crowns on the lows.Properly treating a room is no joke...........and can be done relatively inexpensive with very positive results. Perhaps I wasn't giving the XTI's enough credit but the treatments certainly don't hurt. I know a lot of guys don't want to hear about it..........the treatments or the XTI's.[*-)] In fact, the search for tubes for me has just begun. I'm looking for an amp to go in between my JM Peach ll and 74' Heresy's in my second system.[]
  5. The higher priced tube amps are not mine. I brought one of my XTI's over to a friends house (I have four 2000's and one 1000). We were all expecting the XTI to sound bad in comparison, we were proved wrong.I know exactly what your saying about the different types of music played at various volumes. Was/is your room treated? Eliminating early reflections, bass traps, placement of speakers etc. really helped in taking some of the edge off the highs of the XTI's..........without a doubt. Room treatments certainly help with any equipment......and although my room is treated and working very well for the XTI's.......they are still a little rough around the edges compared to higher priced more "exotic" gear, if you will. I believe the cost speaks for itself. How much did you pay for the Mac? New? Used?
  6. All types of music. We had an spl meter checking out different volumes but mostly right around 90db. We were using a tube cd player and new to me was a squeezebox music server. Pretty cool.
  7. Yeah, I hear ya "Steve". Not everyone has, nor do they want any measuring equipment. It would probably be cool but to determine what gear I'm gonna use in my home, I would go with my ears, say 90%...........and specs say 30%.[][]..........and don't sweat the small stuff.
  8. No doubt there's a lot of overpriced crap out there. The Eastern Electric equipment I've heard has always sounded very good to me.
  9. I did some listening/experimenting this past weekend with a couple of friends and would like to share our experience. This is mostly directed to the average "Joe's" out there that love their tunes. Speakers listened to= KLF-30's 82' Cornwall's RB-75's (bookshelf version of the RF-7) Amps listened to= 150 watt tube Eastern Electric mono-blocks $7000.00 24 watt tube Eastern Electric 502 integrated $1500.00 8 watt tube Eastern Electric Mini Max $1200.00 275 watt ss Crown XTI 1000 $450.00 Well, all of the tube/ speaker combinations sounded excellent. In my opinion.......The Cornwalls had everything, the KLF-30's own "The Punch" and the RB-75's definitely held their own with the help from a Velodyne sub........after all, they are bookshelves. The 150 watt Eastern Electric mono-blocks with the Cornwalls were my favorite........but not by much. The Cornwall's just have a way of presenting a much wider soundstage. After a couple hours of listening, we saved the "trouble maker" for last.[] We pretty much determined the 150 watt Eastern Electric mono-blocks to be the best of the bunch at $7000.00. On to the XTI-1000 at $450.00...............We heard the "noise" coming out of the speaker two feet away.........What's all the fuss about???? No big deal, move over two more feet let alone sit in your chair and it's gone!!!!!!! Yes, the fans are there but definitely not an issue. The sound quality in comparison to the other amps? At $450.00 it's a no-brainer. Pleasantly surprised, we assisted each other lifting our jaws off the floor and went home with smiles on our faces.[]
  10. The 3803 doesn't have an eq that can be adjusted manually........or so I was told. You can check the manual.[]
  11. Does anyone use the equalizer in the 3805.......particularly for music? How many of you actually know it is there? I didn't know........until a few weeks after I bought it, a friend of mine pointed it out...........Boy am I glad he did!! I got this receiver about two years ago and of all the receivers and preamps I own.......this is my favorite...........and I mostly use it with music!!!!! I attribute this mostly because of the eq that I can manually adjust. I'm just surprised that I don't hear anyone comment on this feature. To my ears, to acheive the sound I want, the ability to manually adjust the eq on the 3805 is the best thing since sliced bread!!![]
  12. I just listened to a pair yesterday at a friends house. Eastern Electric 150 watt monoblocks powering them...........and yes.......they are WONDERFUL speakers!!!
  13. "if I could hear that noise from 26 feet away I would have dropped kicked them to the curb the day after I bought them." Agreed.
  14. Sufficient power thrown at the RF-83's or RF-7's will reduce your need for a second sub. However, a second sub is nice.........so is a third, fourth etc. One very good sub before multiple mediocre subs.........I learned the expensive way.[8o|] What are you powering your 83's with? Klipsch speakers don't need a lot of power to make them go loud or sound good........but when given more power they can be a whole different animal.[]
  15. Bob..........What preamp are you using with the XTI ?
  16. I think the man owns a Crown !!!!!!!!!! Hey Bucky...........Gary Coleman!!!!!!!!! I believe Phillip Drummond also enjoyed Crown Amps. Yes, I remember Phillip and Willis arguing about a hissing noise.
  17. "I need something that will dislocate bones and stuff". ...........That's the spirit.[Y]
  18. (bold added by me) Can you explain that a bit more? I'm reading that to mean when you use the Xti with your Peach, it sounds like crap yet when you use the amp in biamp configuration (does that mean you're using two of them?), with the Peach, it sounds awesome. It sounds like crap and awesome with the same preamp? btw, I'm not picking on anything here, I've got a couple Crown amps, not Xti's though... and also a Peach. Just looking for some clarification on what you're saying. I'm a techno-dummy type. No problem, Coytee.[]Using the Peach with an XTI-2000.......not bi-amped.........the sound to my ears is very "forgettable". Using a Marantz 3600 preamp with an XTI-2000........not bi-amped..........the sound is good but nothing to brag about. Using a Denon 3805 receiver/preamp with XTI-2000.........not bi-amped........the sound is good but nothing to brag about. Now, with the above preamps used with two XTI-2000's in a Fool's biamp configuration........they all sound awesome........especially the Peach!! I know that quite a few guys don't beleive in the Fool's bi-amping "tweak"............all I can say is I've gone back and forth so many times and I always go back to this method. It sounds to me like it may only be scratching the surface of "true" bi-amping...........and if I had the equipment and the know-how, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Nothing scientific to back it up, just my two ears...........matters the most in my book.[]
  19. I would at least have the center channel matching the mains............and if you go with the RS-52's for rears you'll still have good synergy among all the speakers.[]
  20. I think the man owns a Crown !!!!!!!!!! Hey Bucky...........Gary Coleman!!!!!!!!![]
  21. When I use an XTI with my JM Peach, it sounds like, well............crap. However, if I use XTI's in a bi-amp configuration with the Peach, or any other of my preamps(Marantz, Denon) it sounds simply awesome. I suspect the XTI-Macintosh combination mirrors the XTI-Peach combo.
  22. Hang in there Randyman...........everyone is either selling or have already sold their XTI's now. Thanks Mark[] I won't be letting mine go anytime soon. I'm very happy with mine..........for their specific application.[] ............Rock on.[Y]
