  1. While that may be true, my La Scala speakers have the original serial number stamped into the back of the speaker showing they are original although that to can probably be duplicated as well. I would think it would be fairly easy to tell a real Klipsch from a fake, especially when it comes to the Klipschorn, Belle and La Scala. I have three pairs of La Scala speakers, two of them have stickers that were ruined. One previous owner painted over them while the other pair are just not legible; I don't know why. My third pair don't have regular stickers and never did due to model. They are the split version of LSI's without corner trim and have unique stickers that are completely different from the home version La Scala. I don't think anyone could ever duplicate two out of the four I.D. tags on each speaker due to cost. The other two stickers are paper but smaller than the home version.
  2. I have a pair of La Scala speakers I'm restoring or, should I say, I'm trying to correct the last restoration? I have finished stripping the black paint off and have sanded them down. I'm ready to begin applying the new paint but I'm a bit leary about the recommendations made by Lowe's. 1. Does anyone have any suggestions about the painting process as far as how to apply the paint? 2. How about the process of sanding between coats and what grit paper to use? 3. Does anyone know where I can find replacement identification stickers? The guy I bought these from; painted over the originals. These speakers have been upgraded with Bob Crites drivers throughout and crossovers as well. they souund awesome but I want them to look as good as they sound. I also have a pair of stained Birch La Scala speakers and a pair of Industrial 2 piece La Scala speakers that did not come with corner trim.
  3. I'm restoring a pair of La Scala speakers that were previously "restored." The guy painted over the stickers so I need to replace them. Were you able to come up with blanks that you mentioned? The speakers I have were purchased on ebay in 2003. The seller claimed they were the best pair available in the world. A lofty claim for sure but even a decent restoration would have been nice. He said he had put seven coats of paint on; sanding between each coat ending up with a awesome finish. Let me tell you, I think it was drive by sanding! The sand paper might have been in his pocket, I'm not sure but I can tell you it looked as if they had been painted in the Sahara Desert during a sand storm. I'd be very surprised if there was more than two coats of paint although, personally, I think there was only one! He also added that all drivers and crossovers had been replaced by Bob Crites. Most of that turned out to be true except for the tweeters; they were original and one was blown. I spoke with Bob Crites and he confirmed selling the mids, woofers and crossovers to him. He shipped me new tweeters and my wife installed them for me. Yes, my wife! She is an electronic technician and knows how to solder the correct way.Ebay ended up making him refund $300 and the shipping ended up being free so it turned out to be a pretty decent deal except when I looked at them - LOL. This weekend, I finished stripping and sanding them down but, I still need stickers to put on the back. The guy I bought them from did add a pair of new Klipsch plaques for the front but he installed them directly over the old plaques. I don't know why since they were fairly easy to remove. They sound awesome but I want them to look as nice as they sound.
  4. Did you ever sell your LaScala's? Bill - Colorado
  5. Can someone tell me where I can find the original type of grill cloth for K-Horns and Cornwalls? Are the speaker grills still available for the La Scala's? Thanks, Bill
  6. Let me try this again since it didn't post the first time. Let me echo what a number of others have stated, you have a nice system, as young as you are. Just wait until you're older with a better paying job to support you audio habits. My first stereo was a Panasonic Quad system. It wasn't like the fake quad (matrix discrete) like my sister had but a true quad. You had to use a special CD-4 record to activate the quad portion and the selection of those albums was poor at best. I only had three, one of which was Aqualung by Jethro Tull. It sounded so awesome, I can't believe I didn't wear it out. That system is long gone and has grown quite a bit as far as bedroom systems go, at least mine anyway. My current system in our master bedroom consists of mostly Technics with some dBX, Monster Power and Klipsch thrown in to make it really perform. I have a Technics RS-1700 Open Reel, SL-1310MKII Turntable, SL-PC33 CD player, dBX model 200 Program Selector, dBX Model 224 Noise Reduction, Technics ST-9030 Tuner, RS-9900US Cassette Deck, SH-4060 Timer, Monster Power HTS-2500 Line Conditioner, dBX 3BX Range Expansion, Technics SH-9010 EQ, SH-9020 Meter Unit, and two SE-9060 Power Amps (Mono). The rack is a Technics SH-905ST (?) along with a Technics powered antenna on one of the Klipschorns. Forgive me, the Open Reel is sitting on the floor because it no longer will fit in the rack or in the current configuration of the system. It will most likely show up on eBay in a few days. This use to be my main system but has been retired to the bedroom after an upgrade in the family room. This is one of five systems in my home, most of it is Technics with some Klipsch speakers (Klipschorn, La Scala, KG-2) gracing three of the systems. My other speakers are Bose 901's that will be replaced with another pair of K-Horns, Belles or La Scala's. I also have a pair of Technics SB-E100's and a pair of Paradigm Titans.

  8. Hi Bob, The numbers are L 9R 968 and L 10R 101. Until I saw these numbers last week, I thought these might be homemade. My Klipschorns have the same type of markings in the wood so I felt they were at least Klipsch although I'm not so sure about the tweeters. The woofers look new and are Klipsch, he put new Bob Crites crossovers in also. One of the mids sounds like it might be blown and they, along with the tweets, don't look like they are new.
  9. Hi Gil, The mids are K55V (63593) but the tweeters don't have any marking on them other than a serial #824 7574 649. I'm not picky about originality, especially with these La Scala's but I do want good sound. One mid seems to be blown and is supposedly new. The lack of markings on the tweets seems a bit odd, what do you think? Bill
  10. Unfortunately, the guy I bought them from painted over the stickers for some reason. As easy as they come off, on older speakers, I'm not sure why he felt the need but I'm not able to read it.
  11. I have a pair of La Scala's that I need a bit of help with. It is believed that the woofers are new but other drivers are original, how do I tell for sure?
