  1. Hi - Can anyone (preferably Craig!) describe the general circuit topology of the VRD amp? Variant of the Williamson? Thanks, Steve.

And the story is that she was not well during the recording. You'd never know it. For an even more hair-raising performance, try to find the live one from Dallas 1958. Steve.

The mid horns you see here were made to his specification for a hyperbolic horn profile. See more at http://site.voila.fr/musique_concrete Steve.
  4. Hi Tom, thanks for the reply. ---------------- On 4/13/2005 11:51:55 PM TBrennan wrote: Steve----Tonal balance makes the difference. ---------------- Right. I guess what I was thinking was that while a bass-shy system would seem bright and not desirable, it wouldn't drill your ears like simply bad drivers would. My thought was that if the highs are pleasant in a Cornwall, they should be pleasant in a Heresy, excepting that the overall sound of the Heresy is too bright. ---------------- I believe too that with the Heresys the problem was accentuated by my using them elevated at ear height, ---------------- I wouldn't be surprised. I've been listening to Heresys on the floor, tilted up. But even then, the best sound I'm hearing is with the horns aimed UNDER ear level. Steve.

But I dislike LaScalas and Heresys ---------------- Hi Tom - a question from someone new to the Klipsch scene: All the speakers you mention have the same mid/high drivers, no? The Cornwall & Heresy differ only in the horn/xover - 600Hz vs. 700Hz which surely (?) can't make a difference. So how do the mids/highs sound good/bad in one but not the other? Steve.
  6. Tony, thanks for pointing that site out. Robert Greene's writing is the only reason I've continued reading TAS over the past 10 years. I kinda wish he'd quit, so I could too :-). Steve.

For best sound, recent SACD recordings by Michael Tilson Thomas. I've heard his 2nd (yes), 6th (yes) and 1st (no). The 4th is also available but I haven't heard it. The 9th is on the way. If you're new to Mahler, a great place to start is with Benjamin Zander on Telarc. Each CD comes with a "bonus" disc where he explains what's going on. These also sound good and are good perfoemances as well. Both the 4th & 9th are available. Also if you're new to Mahler, I think the best place to start is the 5th (lot's of great performances: Barbirolli, Tennstedt, Bernstein (Vienna), Karajan, Boulez (?!)). But the 4th is also wonderful to start with. It's going to be a great ride! Steve.

It also shouldn't be used down to 400 Hz in the Khorn. It won't take much power especially that low in frequency. I think it's best used in a 2-way Belle or LaScala crossed over at 600 or 700 Hz. ---------------- How about the TAD 2001? Isn't 400 Hz too low for it as well? Steve.

I was also going to try Ebay, but I'd imagine they are heavy so shipping might be an issue. I just bought a pair in very good condition on ebay for $600+. Cosmetically-challenged pairs can be had for less. Hereseys aren't that big or heavy - shipping shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.
