  1. I will have KHorns in a 16 x 18 room with clipped ceilings. The walls clip at 5 feet and angle to ceiling. Does anyone have Horns in a similar room. How does the room geometry affect the results? Thanks in advance.
  2. j-malotky, Thanks for your input to the discussion. My fronts are set in stone with the KHorns and La Scala (unless of course, someone has a single Belle for sale, lol). I have decided to suck it up and try all of the configurations for the rear speakers. I actually will have a couple pair of heresy coming now and a pair of original fortes. bI plan on trying all combinations before my fire sale prior to my divorce. Oh well, it will be worth it. Thanks again fellas. I will post pics of the system in about 6 weeks upon completion.
  3. I agree that we are all audio fans seeking the same thing - the best damn system we can get our grubby little hands on. I appreciate everyone sharing their experience and taking the time to offer opinions. Admittedly, I may not have as critical an ear as some on this forum. After this reading this thread over, I am less concerned with the timbre match as I am with placement of the fortes. I had not even considered this fact. In my experience, the forte is as sensitive to placement as any in the heritage line. I had my best experience with the forte about 2 feet in from each wall slightly (maybe 10 degrees) toed in. Would anyone agree with this? As much as it kills me, I don't know that the forte will have a place in this system. All heresys may be a better option for size, placement, and timbre match. I think it is time for a group hug.
  4. Guys, Thanks for all of the reponses regarding the rear speakers. I listed my situation and system components in another thread. Video: Panasonic 700U w/ Carada 106" Receiver: NAD T763 6.1 2-Channel: Fi X (2a3) Front: '78 KHorns Center: '78 La Scala Rear: HELP RCenter: HELP I had originally planned for a 2-channel system upstairs and HT downstairs. I had planned for a simple system upstairs with a little Fi X 2a3 integrated, Rega Planet, and Forte. I have probably owned 15 pairs of speakers over the last ten years and am admittedly a junkie. The different speakers were due to my wife kicking out my Forte six years ago when we moved in this house. It is my all-time favorite that I have owned regardless of price (I have used NHT, Sonus Faber, B&W, Single Driver DIYs, Von Schweikert, Usher). Most of these were monitors due to space and size, but for my taste, the Forte gives me most of what I want out of a speaker. Keep in mind, I have not owned the KHorns and am picking them up in two weeks. The scope of my project changed when I scored the KHorns. I have dreamed about owning these for years but never had the corners. So I decided to do one system upstairs. I have committed to purchase the Forte and had planned to use them as rear speakers. My other option is to use heresys and sell the forte. Thanks for everyones help. I want to get the system right the first time and do not have the luxury of testing the forte and heresy side-by-side due to dollar constraints. I realize that this is not ideal in determining my speakers. I know one thing for sure, I want all heritage speakers. Since no Klipsch dealers in my area stock heritage and I am out of cash, this forum is about all I've got. Also, if I use the heresy in back, I am planning on mounting all of the speakers in the back wall. Obviously, this will be easiest to do when I finish the room. Stop piling on Rick please. I know that his BS comment stirred it up a bit. For the record, he is a stand-up guy (like MOST on this forum) and has gone far out of his way to help me. Thanks again for everyone's input.
  5. Olorin, I will definitely go back and read that thread. Unfortunately, with my project scope changing and being WAY over budget, I will not have the luxury of a side by side comparison with the heresy and forte as rear speakers. If my wife sees another speaker box, I am a dead man. Do you feel that the problem is between the heresy and forte, specifically or a mismatch between the original heritage line and the 2nd gen Heritage (Forte/Quartet/Academy/etc.)? If I were to use 3 fortes or 2 fortes and a quartet with the front config of Khorn/La Scala/Khorn, would the results be similar? Thanks in advance.
  6. Why is everyone discussing crappy speakers made by a marketing machine? Seems like a waste of time, kind of like arguing about the use of different fonts.
  7. Olorin, That is a good idea. I thought about that after I posted it in addition to having the other heresy for 7.1 in the future. The problem is that this project is a wee bit over budget. lol Thanks for the message. Keith
  8. Well, I decided to buy a pair of raw birch that has been stained and will use one as a rear center. Probably a 7 out of 10. A few chips but cabs in pretty decent shape. Function perfectly. I have this listed on Audiogon for $250 but will sell to forum member for $200 firm plus actual shipping. Email for pics if interested. Thanks-Keith
  9. Thanks Guys. I will do some additional searching in this forum. I will also check out the Green Glue for sure. I need to get this done right. I am a night owl with 3 kids.
  10. I have used an Audio Note 300B amp at 7 WPC in the past with Fortes and it provided plenty of power in addition to a solid low end. The Dared 300Bs also have volume control on each mono so a variable output CD player is not a requirement.
  11. My 2 cents: On a tight budget - go used - especially in speakers. As far as subs go, check out Hsu Research. The best value in subs in my experience. The Denon is a good receiver. I am actually selling an Onkyo TX-DS777. It is a THX Select reciver and is a rock solid performer. Tons of great reviews. The only thing that it does not have is 'Component Video Switching', which I need and is my only reason for an upgrade. Good luck with your project.
  12. Rich, Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I will check out the threads. Something crazy good happened late last night. I have asked a few people to be on the lookout for a La Scala or Belle for the center. My new buddy who is selling me the fortes sent an email for an auction for a single La Scala. The La Scala is an hour drive from me and is also the same year and crossover (1978, AA) as the KHorns I am getting. I contacted the seller and made a good deal on the La Scala for a Monday pickup. It is becoming more and more apparant to me that this project is supposed to happen. Ideally, I will sub a Belle for the La Scala down the road for looks alone. So, I would still like to split a pair of the Belles. I need to determine whether to uses the Fortes in the rear and add a Forte, Quartet, or Academy. Or move the Fortes and add three Heresy. I like the height of the forte because no alterations would have to be made. I would need to mount the three heresy if I choose to go that way. Option #1 KHorn/La Scala/KHorn Forte/Forte/Forte The trio of Fortes has a nice ring to it. Option #2 KHorn/La Scala/KHorn Heresy/Heresy/Heresy This will give me the option of moving the La Scala to replace the center Heresy once a Belle becomes available. Option #2 Upgrade KHorn/Belle/KHorn Heresy/La Scala/Heresy Um, that wil be just silly. Thanks again Rich. I am heading to the Evil Orange Empire to steal your lighting scheme. Rick in Ohio: If you are out there, thanks a ton bro. Keith
  13. I was going to comment on how awful the movie is (when compared to Get Shorty, a gem of a flick) and then I saw your second comment. One of the most disappointing in years for me. Vince Vaughn is a pisser for sure (think drunk standing on the table in the diner in Swingers - "I would never eat here." Unfortunately, all of the funny stuff was in the trailer. I guess Travolta wanted to feel cool one more time.
  14. Rich, I am in Raleigh. I am curious why the Heresy would be better matches than the Forte. I have owned both in 2 channel systems, but never in HT. I think the Forte may be my favorite speaker that I have owned (I don't technically own my Khorns yet). I am open for ideas and am using this forum for ideas to better my system. All help is appreciated. BTW, where did you get those lights for your HT? Keith

Then use all Heresies in the rear. I am actually working on the mounting this weekend to put the 4 Heresies in the rear (Sounds like you could use 3) Which will turn my 6.1 into 7.1. I have the same projector as you and a Carada screen. I went with brilliant white after getting samples from Carada. I thought I would go gray, but there are no black issues in my mind with that projector and screen. The gray just did not do it for me. Good luck on the project. ---------------- rplace, Sounds like a plan. I would much rather have the Belle but am running out of money. If I only used one for the main center, I can make that happen. Since I already have the fortes, I am thinking: Khorn/Belle/Khorn Forte/Heresy/Forte Where are you located and what is the market price for a pair of Walnut Belles? We could split the Belle or La Scala and I would need to find a single or pair of Heresy in anything but black. Or I could sell the forte and go: Khorn/Belle/Khorn Heresy/Heresy/Heresy Either configuration should be a winner, I would think anyway. I am glad you mentioned the screen color also. Deep black is the sole reason that I am leaning towards the grey. Thanks-Keith
  16. Thanks for the replies everyone. It looks like my project is getting more expensive everytime I log on. I want to get it right for sure. I think I need a pair of La Scala to try for the centers. No way I can afford Belles at this point. Anyone holding a pair??? If my better half really knew how much I am spending on my HT, AKA The Pimp Lair, I would be getting divorced. And yes, I do have subs, a pair of HSU Research VTF-3 MK 2. They are a ridiculous value IMO. ---------------- On 4/9/2005 4:39:42 PM Coytee wrote: I make a wicked icing from scratch too ----------------
  17. Sunfire is great stuff, I agree. Big Bob Carver fan. I will be using a NAD T763 as a preamp (6 channels of 300B tubes eventually) in for 6.1 in an all Heritage HT system with the exception of a sub from HSU Research. I thought that I would continue to use my trusy Onkyo 777 and would continue to do so if it had component video switching capabilities. I am closing on a new home in a week and refinishing a walk-up attic that will measure 16x18. I will have Khorns as mains, Fortes as rears, and who the hell knows what as center and rear center. I was thinking Academy originally until the cake batter incident. Then I was thinking Heresy and now you have me scared. I will check out these posts that you were talking about. I will be using a Panasonic PT-AE700U LCD projector and 106" fixed screen from Carada. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I saw your HT setup in another thread and it looks great. From the pics that I saw, you did an awesome job with that room. I can only hope that mine turns out that well.
  18. Doug, Here is a copy of the first email I received from Derek at Projector Point. He is a really good sales guy and helped me out alot with all of the offerings out there. I hope this helps. Keith Hello Keith, Thank you for your interest in the Panasonic PT-AE700U projector. Our Projectorpoint sale price is $1949 before $200 rebate. 19. I actually found another review comparing the ASL Wave 8s vs. Bottlehead Paramours. The reviewer used two pairs of speakers for the review, A single driver speaker and Klipsch Cornwalls. This one may come in handy for a comparison: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0302/aslwave8.htm Good luck
  20. I agree that the Paramours are a great value. The best value IMO is the Fi X from Don Garber at Fi Audio. I think that it would be a nice match for your Cornwalls. It is in you price range and is compatible with 2a3 or 45s. Stock unit is about 800 and 1100 with MagneQuest upgrade. Check out the reviews: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0104/fix.htmat
  21. Newest project is to keep the sound in my attic HT system. I am going to finish the room next month and want to keep the sound out of the rest of my house. What would you use on the drywall (thicker drywall or insulation behind it?) Also, is there a good flooring material to go between the plywood sub-floor and floor covering to absorb the sound?? Thanks.
  22. Great thread. I will have to go with any Grateful Dead with Donna Godchaeux singing. There is a particularly awful Scarlet Begonias/Fire on the Mountain that she butchers that I use regularly for neighbor that has a Budweiser seemingly glued to his hand.
  23. Let me rephrase: An Academy is NOT worth $750 to ME. Especially one in black with cake batter that the seller seems so proud of. And I really had no idea what they listed for nor do I care. Now ship me that free Heresy pair that you were so eloquently babbling about. BTW, what 6.1 receiver are you using in your HT setup?
  24. Anyone have any experience with this combo or any NAD receivers? I bought the NAD when using NHT speakers for HT with nice results. NHT makes great speakers but they are notoriously power hungry. A different beast entirely from horns, but very nice sounding. A great option when space is a problem for speakers, but you have adequate power. I am switching things up a bit with a new HT system which will be all Heritage speakers in a 6.1 system with KHorns, Fortes, and Heresy. I had planned on selling the NAD to fund the new horns and go back to my trusty Onkyo TX-Ds777 which is a rock-solid performer. The only problem is no component video switching on the Onkyo. There is the dilemma. Thanks in advance.
