  1. You should seriously consider purchasing a working, tested, Hickok tester that will not only perform a good/bad test on emissions but also transconductance to judge the tube's true values and performance.
  2. What is the difference in performance between the 2 speakers mentioned above. In particular the bass reponse, and mid-range when placed in a smaller listening room.
  3. What is the main difference in performance and sound between RB-5 II and RB-75 speakers.
  4. Being exposed to loud noise causes hearing loss, gradually, whether due to hearing music, machinery, or noise pollution; if you don't protect your ears you'll be deaf. In clubs, at concerts and events music and audio is recklessly amplified to damaging levels, with utter disregard of the consequences. This should not be allowed to continue.
  5. Now the speakers are one foot in front of the back wall, 17 inches from the side wall and 77 inches apart; consequently the bass situation is a lot better with those large, rear-firing ports. I placed a telephone directory on top of each speaker. I will make minor adjustments to this and see if I can reach an ideal sound. I wonder what a pair of RB-75's or RF-5's would do in this small space.
  6. My listening room is 14 feet deep by 11 feet wide. I am using Klipsch RB-5 II speakers on 31" heavy metal stands, bi-wired to Jolida 302-B amplifier. I primarily use a Cambridge 640 CD player and listen to jazz. The amplifier has more than enough power and the speakers sound very good. The problem is that despite the large woofer, and back firing bass port, there is not much of a bottom end to the sound. The speakers are 2 feet away from the back wall and about 30 inches away from the side walls. They are about 42 inches apart from each other. I would not be able to move them farther from their present position. Would I pick up more bass using a floor standing model or another Klipsch speaker?
  7. Earlier this year I bought a new pair of Klipsch RB-5 II's in black ash to try with my tube setup, to replace some Spica TC-50's I had for 9 years. The Klipsch speakers are nice, and the grilles toned down the highest highs, but I miss the depth and imaging the Spicas gave me in my slightly rectangular listening room. I suspect that in a different room the RB-5 II's could perform better. I have never tried horn speakers but now I realize that they are not for me. These speakers are mint, like new, with the original manual, unused rubber feet, inner & outer boxes & packaging material. If anybody is interested, I will let them go for $425.00 plus shipping from 33328.
  8. Plasma is out for me because I read that if you watch a station with a header or footer it will burn itself into the plasma. Also, if the plasma gets in an uproar, isn't installed right it can get messed up. I am leaning towards DLP or LCD or Flat tube HD. I do not buy Panasonic products because they are a rotten company.
  9. How many more televisions are there? What is the best value for the money? I am looking for an HD set 42 inches diagnonally and there are so many choices that it boggles the mind. I do not like "home theater" and will not be interested in it at all. It seems like televisions are evolving too fast to sink a lot of cash into one. Prices on plasmas are falling, and LCD units, too.
  10. I got mine from an ebay seller out in L.A. Watch the listings and deal with somebody reputable.
  11. The unit does not have a mono switch; the selector switch has FM mono or FM stereo.
  12. Now that they are broken in, I was disappointed with the depth and soundstage until I made sure they were 2 feet from the back wall, separated them more and toed them in toward my listening position. Now they give a lot more depth and a better soundstage. The only thing I have to do is get higher stands. They are on 21" stands and I think they need about 26-28 inchers to do their best.
  13. I bought a Marantz 2218 receiver to furnish 2-channel amplification to the television audio signal and for FM in my living room. The unit is in mint condition, silver face & dial, all the lights work; the tuner is great; the only thing that concerns me is that the red "STEREO" indicator light only lights up in FM STEREO mode. In the other modes it does not light up,it glows a little bit, probably backlit by the adjacent bulbs. Does this mean that it is not putting out a stereo signal from the other outs?
  14. It may prove to be a waste of time but I have never tried it.
  15. Do you have to use the same kind of wire for the woofer AND tweeter? I have Monster Cable 12 gauge that I am wiring the speakers now using the straps. Could I use 14 guage Monster cable on the tweeter connection. a Also, how do you get those @#% straps off?
  16. Nobody wants to help me. It was a simple enough question: what is the break-in time for a new pair of Klipsch RB-5 II's. Is everybody here so self-absorbed that nobody, I mean nobody could even be bothered to venture an opinion about how long these take to be broken in? I think I'm in the wrong forum.
  17. Kind of Blue - Miles Davis (Columbia 1959) Portrait In Jazz - Bill Evans (OJC 1959) Music to Listen To Red Norvo By - Red Norvo (Contemporary 1957)
  18. I bought a new pair of Klipsch RB 5 II speakers in black ash finish from an ebay auction. I set them up without the grilles and have been breaking them in with my 40 WPC tube amplifier. I have run them around 12-15 hours now. How long would before they are fully broken in?
  19. I missed out on that one. I bought a pair in black on ebay for $475.00 shipping included. I am looking forward to hooking them up to my Jolida 202B.
  20. I would like to see a photo of Sinatra with Red Norvo.
  21. I have a small listening room with decent acoustics. I would listen to primarily jazz vocal and instrumental music. How would the RB-5 do for this?
