  1. If the sats are as good as thier other gear it should be another slam dunk for SVS.I think they're clever to go for a bang-for-the-buck system.Pricepoint is always a consideration for me and the rest of the working slobs, I love Ferrari's but buying one is just not a reasonable goal for normal people.I hope they succeed with the new line of entry lever speakers and given thier history it's almost a sure bet they will.
  2. Ear Because it is NOT a review,Audioreview is hosting BS posted by real deal bashers.Because lies should be deleted. The poster of this nonsense banned, jailed and sent to a labour camp to pay for his crimes against audio Cane em, when they see the skin flyin' off thier @ss, they'll know the wrath of the Ear All kidding aside, how do you find "honest" reviews? Magazines? They're in bed with the advertisers I think.Audioreview is one of the more interesting sites to me, I try to gauge what a guy is saying against what equipment he owns/owned.The guys with an axe to grind are exposed right away with something like "more crap from Klipsch". Never liked the product never will, that review is ignored. Then you have other guys who rate everything relative to the BB , Circuit City gear, take with a grain of salt.I think it's kinda fun to me but maybe I a geek of another magnitude.
  3. I found that I learned more about the various products on audioreview by the people who DIDN'T like the product. It seemed to me that every product had it's cult following that would say anything from company X is great. Then you had the guys who spent a small fortune for something, how can you admit you bought 5k worth of so-so gear. Then other products are all over the scale.Ten posts rave that a given speaker is the second coming, and then more would say the total opposite, shear crap stay away.I noticed this about Axiom in particular.I'm not trying picking on Axiom , never listened to them,I just found the polar oppisite reviews suspicious - right or wrong. Keep the entertaining/informative and posts coming Ear, your a fun read, info. doesn't always have to be dull as dishwater. If your elfish in stature it certainly doesn't matter here, your pen roars like a lion....
  4. "Room tuning is the wave of the future to improve sound" No doubt about that, although no room EQ will completely solve all problems it's a great start. As I've discussed in other other forums that I notice alot of guys trying to address problems without know concretely what the problem really is.For example the complicated problems with the center channel dialogue clarity and a seamless soundstage. As you know the various fixes already, I don't want to get too far off topic.Sure you can buy some commercially available software/mics/amps/rca or just go the high end route where it's done for you.But I'll have to respectfully disagree with you about Klipsch entering the EQ business. With this option they can truely say that they are selling you the theater experience, a complete package (plus optional amps)Plug and play and get professional theater sound (or as close as possible). If it's not cost effective for them the could sell some sort of package that includes the theater EQ and offset the loss with other merchandise sold with the "package".Being that Klipsch is so large they have the capacity to be the Mircorsoft of the speaker world and so mass produce/undercut anybody in the EQ business.Size does matter : ) BTW Mcgoo, thanks for the well thought out response...got that link?
  5. Don't let pinheads ruin your day. There are many know-it-alls in the audio world than you can shake a stick at.I know enough to know that I don't know very much.I find that people attack your character when they don't have an answer to the question. I'll go one better........ Anytime you want a answer to a technical question of any kind, let me know and I'll get answered for you by a world class physicist ,he rubbed elbows with Edward Teller and others. But it has to be a technical question, not something like "what is better infinity or PSB? "He doesn't know audio gear or what the properties are of the acoustic foam your using in your room and so on.These guys on the forum are a wealth of knowlege when it comes to gear, they know thier stuff. But if you have any kind of amplifier power questions, impedence matches, acoustic question, anything....let me know and I'll get you an answer and post it for you and all to read.....deal?
  6. "vacationing overseas in a 3rd world country is ALWAYS dangerous. The girl lost in Aruba a few months ago is trajic in a similar way. Austrailia coming out against terrorism makes citizens a target as non combatants. Radical Islam is a cowardly pathetic segment of humanity; that will never change." I agree with you 100% .As far as Aruba goes, how many foriegn tourists (per year) are murdered in NYC alone.I'll take my family to a country that has a murder every 20 years or so, much safer than DC I can tell you that. The local news here in DC I dubb the daily murder report. We have daily murders here, it's like the weather , you flip on the news and it's baiscally the crime report.Who was murdered today?Terrible shame what happened to that girl, no exuse for it, but I think we need some perspective.Your chances of being murdered in parts of Detriot are greater than dieing on the battlefield in Iraq.
  7. "The Blank option is kicking butt." Ya it's my first "poll" I've posted so I goofed it up.I was banging on the keyboard like a monkey and hit post. Was thrilled it work...lol
  8. "The room response picture below is on RF-7s driven by a Pioneer Elite VSX-49TX which most folks would say is too expensive. The auto EQ was first generation from Pioneer. They are on third generaton now and will be bringing out the fourth generation next year on the flagship with the 72 and 74 models available now." Didn't know about the pioneer EQ system, interesting. As far as expense goes, I'm no cost analyst but I do know that i can buy a home PC for a thousand bucks or so, that has capabilities too long to list.My old man is a physicist and when I have real technical questions I ask him and he gives me high school-physics answers that will make sense to me.Anyway,I asked him about this EQ business and why they cost like they do and so on. His opinion was "that's what they charge".Does it really cost that much more to make these finer electronic EQ systems i asked -"yes it does, but it doesnt cost anywhere near what they charge, your paying for the R$D, what the market will bare and how many they think they can sell."To my mind, if Klipsch was able (willing to risk) an EQ system that is affordable,Klipsch becomes a one-stop-shop company. You can buy the Utlra's and an EQ system designed by the pros.Who can compete with this? I guess I'm partial to Klipsch because of the history of the company.A guy goes into his garage basically and builds something that wows the critics, there is something very American about that story to me.Anyway, why not ask the EQ question to all the Klipsch hounds (like me)and see what happens was my line of thinking.

    JBL

I was wondering if anybody has done a comparison of the new Klipsch utra 2's against some the new JBL gear? I like Klipsch and JBL equally but some the JBL lines are waaay out of my price range.Thier new home theater gear looks very slick (http://jbl.com/home/products/series.aspx?SerId=PTS) and I was wondering if anybody has demoed these. It seems to me that Klipsch and JBL are very much competitors and I think that's a good thing for the audio guys, two great companies trying to out-do one another.I can't help but wonder who buys some of JBL's high end stuff, stratosphere pricing.
  10. Thanks for the tip Ears, that kind of info. is always better coming from someone who has had extensive in-home listening experience. As far as the sub 12 goes I've been trying to demo it's not at my local BB last I checked. And that's another point, the displays at BB ,crappy. The display at BB is messy , looks like a back room storage area with wires hanging out and speakers turned around the wrong way. I wonder if Klipsch knows this is going on.The JBL stuff is always squared away (right next to Klipsch) but the Klipsch stuff is in dissarray.Well I guess you get the kind of help you pay for....
  11. Ears...How do you like those polk subs? How do they compare to subs in the same price range (infinity, klipsch, jbl).Does Polk make the drivers or do they have them made by another manufacturer? Im thinking of buying a new sub in this price range.I've heard those Polks are a great bang for the buck.I need something to help with my bottom end but I don't need plaster cracking bass. PS ...I'm getting rid of my SVS2039pci,too big.
  12. Jay and formica....thanks for the tips Obviously I'm not a computer guy or I'd already know that info on Virtual PC for Mac. "They are very good machines but are sometimes over hyped in my opinion... " Rob You might be right there Rob and overpriced.Yikes they are expensive.2500 bucks for this new G4 ( with few bells and whistles). The buying experience was something of note also.I went into the Mac store here in Arl. Va. with the intention of buying. a G4 .The Mac store clercs were running around in West coast hipster outfits complete with a biker beeny ( like the West Coast chopper watch caps sans the iron cross). After standing around and looking needy for 30 minutes or so a little frumpy clerc decided to help.Had I joined a cult I wondered? Will I have to swear allegiance to something and smoke weed at least twice a week?No I guees not. But i would understand the Mac customer service better in a smokey haze.
  13. Formica :download a freeware copy of WinISD to model the enclosures... Thanks for the tips will look into them all.Unfotunatley, I have a mac. It's my first mac and I have a love/hate relationship. On the one hand , no viruses EVER! and it always works , NEVER EVER CRASHES.On the other hand it seems the software availablility is more limited.I'd love to have the "TrueRTA" from trueaudio.com but no luck,it's for windows.
  14. Thanks for all the input guys.. Dr.Who:"The T/S (Thiele/Small) paramets for "car subs" are generally such that they are optimized for very small cabinets and rely on the cabin gain in cars to achieve a flat response." Good point.I understand that most auto applications give you cabin gain around 50hz.Will the auto subs have a thin response in and around this area? I guess the T/S will give you the answers. Homemade:Very intersting, will have to look into MTX. Any dolt can go to the store and pick a sub off the shelf for 500 to 2000 bucks that will perform like a champ.I should know I'm one of the dolts. But I'm also pretty good with my hands and I like the challenge the DIY world. I'm a big Parts Express/adire fan.Afterall , this is a hobby right! : ) CAS: "Now...when you're talking about the auto subs that are build from solid steel molds, 75lb magnets, can withstand tens of thousands of watts and have sensitivities of 50dB.......those may be a bit more durable. Win an SPL contest they will; a sound quality contest they wont." Another good point, the SQ question.Ouput , but what kind!!!! A muddy sounding thundering box is not success .
