  1. I have to mount mine exactly the same way, 7' up. I'm planning to angle them down about 15-20 degrees. Hope this doesn't ruin the effect!
  2. I just did this for my add-on. I've never done it before but it was quite easy. Plan the routes away from power. If you have to cross power, do it at a steep angle - don't run alongside if you can help it. Pick the shortest logical route and simply drill holes through the studs. Took me a couple hours to run three lines for my 6.1 system. Of course if the drywall is already up then you're in for a LOT more work!
  3. Can anyone compare the sound of the SVS and the Klipsch subs in simple terms? I'm getting ready to buy a new sub for my system and those two are on my list. I don't like an overpowering bass but I do like clean, quality sound.
  4. That's right on par with what I've been able to find. Better on the RC, actually.
  5. Merely a feeble attempt at sarcasm, my friend.
  6. Another vote for Titan A.E. The sound is amazing on that one and it's good for all ages. Also Star Wars Episode 1. Sound is great and the kids get to see that lovable Jar-Jar character and his hijinx. I just love the way he talks, it adds so much to the movie! 7. Awesome, thanks! Guess I'll start looking for a deal on the Aragon amp mentioned above.
  8. You guys rock! I'm learning a lot from this forum. Can I assume that if I like the sound of my 1803 then it doesn't matter what type of amp I add so long as it's good quality? In other words different stand-alone amps will sound similar? Or am I showing my ignorance again in which case I will be asking which amp compliments the sound of the Denon best?
  9. Thanks guys. One quick question... my local audio place seems to think that my Denon 1803 will be fine for these speakers as long as I'm not out for loudness. Does this seem right? I guess I'm not quite sure how watts relates to an amp's capabilities. If I'm at 50% volume, does that mean a 100W amp is putting out 50 watts? I really don't plan to crank the volume up since my neighbors would be beating down my door.
  10. Oh, I love the way my Denon sounds! But it's currently on an old Infinity satellite system and I'm upgrading to R-7s all around. From what I've read here, my Denon is not appropriate for these speakers so I'm just looking for the best solution to this, whether it's adding an amp, buying seperates or replacing with another AVR. The simplicity of the AVR is good because my wife hates "all those d*mn remotes"!
  11. So I've decided to take the leap into a set of R-7s. My Denon 1803 doesn't seem to be a good choice, so what would you guys recommend to replace it? The setup will be 6.1 as the room will never allow for 7.1. The system will be used for 75% movies / tv and 25% music. I chose the 1803 over Onkyo and Yamaha because it had the most natural sound. The Yamaha was too bright and the Onkyo just a bit too crisp in the highs and not enough clarity in the rest for my taste. I'm hoping to not spend over $1500 but I also want to make sure I get something I won't have to replace for a very long time. Also, loudness is not that important but sound quality is! Any input would be greatly appreciated. Speakers: RF7x2, RC7, RS7x2, RB75
  12. Thanks, that makes sense. I'm still just nervous about forking out the money for the R7's instead of 35's, provided my better half allows me to buy them and not be killed for it. The room is not big (app. 14x22) and other than the usual DVD stuff I also listen to music, which includes classical where volumes can get low but still include many instruments. Edit: PS... the room is definately not 'dead'. It's wood floors and vaulted ceilings. :\
  13. Dumb question... Are small speakers better at low volumes than larger ones? For example, Rx-25, 35, 75, etc.
  14. I'm getting the feeling this system is too much for the room. SVS recomended that sub based on the room specs, but it sounds like the R7 speakers are way beyond it. Maybe I should be looking at Rx-35? EDIT: I need to stay with 6.1 because the room is wired for it and I can't tear the walls apart again. That and there's no way to use two rear speakers in that way with this room.
  15. Thanks! Do you think I'd be better off with a seperate amp and the 1803 or should I just buy a new receiver?
  16. Is a Denon 1803 going to handle a 6.1 R-7 setup? (2 RF7, 1 RC7, 2 RS7, 1 RB75, 1 SVS PB10ISD sub) Are these speakers going to perform well in a room that is 14.5-feet wide by 22-feet long with vaulted ceilings? Thanks!
  17. Can't argue the prices. $3K for a complete 6-speaker R-7 setup. If there's an authorized dealer offering that price I want to know who to write the check to!
  18. Yikes! I wonder if you're better off with bookshelves for better control of where the sound goes? I dunno, I'm using flawed logic here.
  19. Awesome, thanks guys! You just made my decision for me. I was thinking of angling them slightly because they will be mounted at about 7'4" up and only 6'5" from the center of the couch (only about 3' from each side of the couch!). Not an ideal situation but it's what I have to deal with. Hopefully they will perform well like this!
  20. Can RS-7s be mounted up high and angled slightly down like a bookshelf? Would this sound OK? Thanks!
  21. How do the RBs compare to the RSs as surrounds? I'm considering using RS for the L&R surrounds and a RB for the rear center on my 6.1 setup.
  22. RADCHAD3, where did you find this deal? Is it still good?
  23. Thanks again. I'm a bit of a newbie on this stuff but I'm learning. I have a budget of around $2k for the speakers so that's why I went with the 35 line rather than the 7s. I like the size and look of the RS units but you have a good point about matching. I don't usually tune the system for a strong surround sound like some, but for a slightly more subtle effect. My biggest concern is the side speakers in such a narrow room, and having to be up so high!
  24. Thanks for the input! I was thinking of RS-35s for L&R surrounds and RB-35 for rear since the rear is so much farther away than the sides. Could be wrong? I do have to stick with 6.1 because I already own the receiver and I don't have the budget for a new one.
  25. Any opinons? Even an educated guess? RS-35 vs RB-35?
