  1. hello Ben, My experiance has been that its almost impossable to find a box the right size for large speakers. I keep an eye on the places that sell TV's. 27 inch Tv boxes can be cut down and modified to accomidate most speakers. Smaller tv boxes are great for shipping receivers. I keep an eye on the furniture places and computer stores and Sears outlets for boxes to. Berts lumber yard in Perry N.Y. has 2 inch thick by 2 foot by 8 foot sheets of soft white styrofoam bead board. It also comes in 1 inch thick. I think about 9.00 a sheet for 2 inch thick. Being only 24 inches wide its easy to transport. Easy to cut to size to. You can probably find it closer to Buffalo if you call local lumber yards. I have 2 pairs of pioneer cs 99a speakers to sell and pack. I fabricate boxes so they allow for 2 inch thickness of styro board on all 6 sides. Ive shipped 10 pairs of cs 99a's in the last 2 years and have had no shipping damage. I use 3m fiber reinforced strapping tape where needed.
  2. Wake up in Florida, sombody grab these. item# 320043350468
  3. Using an audio signal splitter I can split the signal from Marantz 67SE CD player, Marantz 5220 Cassette deck, and Teac x2000R Reel To Reel into to seperate Marantz 2325 receivers. This allows me to listen to 4 cornwalls and 4 lascalas simultaniously. Marantz 2325 #1 powers the 4 cornwalls, Marantz 2325 #2 powers the 4 lascalas. I cant notice any sound quality loss when I split the signal into 2 receivers. Definately not lacking for bass.
  4. Russ, You probaby have some of the most beautiful klipsch in existance and worth every peny you've invested. I keep hearing about all these corns going for 500.00 or less, Ive never been so lucky. The pair that I drove to Finley Ohio for (the 1984 corns) said to have been owned by Chet atkins but not authenticated with documents. they were listed on audiogon. Over the phone the seller said he was firm at 900.00. after I saw them up close, I probably would have paid 1200.00 if I had to. A close friend of mine in N. Carolina just picked up a pair of beautiful 1983 K horns Tennessee. He is an audiophile, into tubes, He tells me the K horns are the best speaker he has ever heard and that I need to get a pair. He tells me not to worry about not having perfect corners for them. Not many K horns around these parts. I am definately keeping my eyes open though.
  5. definately keepers. back label just says CWO, conesecutively numbered 8525525 and 8525526. I have been listening to them, then the 1981 CWO, then the 1984 CWO and I have to say I am not sure I hear any differance. Metal mid horns may be a tad brighter. The composite 601 horns sound amazing for being made of plastic. It bothers me some if the 601 horn/drivers voice coils are infact 1.5 compared to 600 horns with K 55 drivers with 2" voice coils.. Seems you would get more bang for the buck with 2 inch voice coils. These are the only MDF board cabinets I have. I wont really beable to give them a good listen until sometime when the wife is out.
  6. I don't think the MDF board will throw much heat but it should split easy
  7. Got Home with the Cornwalls at 11pm last night. 570 mile round trip took 11 hours. Have to say I am a little disappointed. Seller assured me repeatedly that there wasnt a blemish of any kind. turns out there were a few light scratches on the top of 1 of them. Only noticable up close under light. They definately rate beautiful 9.9 but not perfect. They are definately transition speakers. They have back mounted plastic composite mid horns. Removed the back panel and the mid drivers are definately bolted to horns. K 33E woofers, k 77 tweeters, B3 networks. The cabinet is made of MDF board not plywood. I guess you would have to call them Cornwall 1's. Back mounted speakers, removable back panel, Cornwall 1 speaker connector terminals near top right above labels. I have to say they sound very good. Not sure if I will put metal 600 mid horns in them or not. I probably paid to much. 750.00 for the speakers, 45.00 in gas, 20.00 for styroboad to transport them safely. Very enjoyable drive, no rain. Beautiful color still on most of the trees around Pittsburgh. I just love all the Oak trees. Cant say I am that crazy about all the hills. almost as hilly as west Virgina. Temp dropped down to below freezing shortly after dark and I think it brought the deer rut into full swing. I saw 7 bucks run across Rt 79 at full speed with nose to the ground. Saw just as many on Rt 90 and to many to count in my neighbor hood.
  8. Going to Pittsburg (Canonsburg) Pa. tomorrow to pick up the 1985 cornwalls ebay item# 230041921262. 530 mile round trip. My appologies to the local forum member that was interested. Fact is the seller and I had been working out the details since the first day they were listed. My concern was mainly the cabinets. The seller assured me that there is not a mark or blemish of any kind on either cabinet. We did not discuss the drivers other than they are original and all working. I wont know till I get there whether the mid horn is the metal 600 or the plastic 601. my hope is that its the metal 600 with k 55 driver. The 85 corns will be a perfect color match for my chet atkins 84 corns. My 84 Chet atkins corns are flawless. If the 85 cornwalls are infact flawless I will be selling my 81 CWO cornwalls. The 81 cornwalls have a couple very tiny cosmetic flaws. If the 85 corns have the 601 plastic mid horns I am going to keep all the components from my 1981 corns and sell the empty cabinets. This will be the 3rd pair of Klipsch speakers Ive gotten out of the Pittsburgh area. 1981 Cornwalls, 1982 la scalas, and now the 1985 Cornwalls. I ran into a real bad snow storm off Lake Erie when I picked up the lascalas, hopefully my luck will be better tomorrow.
  9. pioneer cs 99a. behind the removable lattuse grill is 15 inch FB woofer, 5 inch Fb mid, 4 inch FB mid, multi cell metal horn tweeter, and 2 super dome high freq. tweeters. 100 watt max at 8 ohms. They have sentimental value to me because I bought 4 of them brand new in 1976. I paid 299.00 each for them. I bought alot of cs 99a's off ebay in 2000. Prices were high in 2000. I currently have 2 mint pairs for sale.. 200.00 per pair for anyone who could pick them up in western N.Y.
  10. 11 years ago the only heat source was a field stone fireplace. We installed a nice airtight wood stove and sealed off the fireplace. We installed a couple of monitor keresene heaters for back up but never use them. We burn mostly hard maple, cherry, and beach. We go through about 17 face cord a year. This area has the best hard cherry (black cherry)trees in the country. 10 years ago 25 cherry logs paid for the 20 x 20 addition.
  11. cabin sits on the site of an old mill, this is the levee hand built in 1892
  12. At the wifes insistance I had to get 2 pairs of la scalas out of the living room to make room for her new furniture. I moved the 2 pair of lascalas into the sun room. To make room for the lascalas I had to move my 2 pair of cornwalls into a bedroom. To make room for the cornwalls I had to sell a pair of la scalas I had stored in the bedroom. Now i have just 1 pair of heresy's in the living room. To my surprise it sounds pretty good in the living room with the heresy's. Before i could set my lascalas up in the sun room I had to build a cabinet to house my receiver, decks, and turntable. I am no carpenter but it will keep the dust off my gear. When the 3 week reorganization was finally finished I achieved nirvana. The sweet spot is a reclining rocker I bought for my dad just before he passed away. I have the chair positioned so that the speaker seperation is perfect. I didnt agree to selling the lascalas until the wife agreed to a pair of K horns for our 24 x 30 addition that will be complete by spring.
  13. Buffalo still in State of emerency. death toll at 3. 100 mile section of interstate 90 was closed all night. Some sections still closed due to downed power lines. 340,000 still without power. Some expected to be without power for another week. Sewer systems plugged and backing up. Basements flooding. 1000's of utility workers coming in from all over the state. Almost all the trees severely damaged or fallen. City and suburbs look like a war zone. My heart goes out to those that suffer. Our place is 40 miles southeast of Buffalo. We were on the outer edge and missed the brunt of the storm. Those a mile to the north of us got its full force. I was without power for 21 days after the 3/3/1991 ice storm. after that storm I vowed never to get taken by surprise again. I implemented a cardinal rule survival plan. I bought a home on high ground above all the area water run off. easy access to secondary roads to avoid evacutation gridlock. rally point for loved ones. Inventory consisting of full hand crank 300 gallon gas tank, backup generator, dependable chainsaw, woodstove, firewood, flash light, batteries, stock pile of matches, candles, canned goods, dog food, drinking water, cash, and lots of ammunition. I wonder if Paul Simon was in Buffalo when he wrote "How Can You Live In The Northeast".
  14. The lake effect machine has started. New snowfall record for October in Buffalo N.Y.. 12-15 inches on the ground. wet heavy stuff off Lake Erie.
  15. The original owner recently passed away and I bought these unfinished H BR heresy's from his wife. I moved them from where they sat untouched for 25 years. I removed the risers to sit them on my lascalas. They sound fantastic in combo with the lascalas. They dont need much throttle in a 10 x 10 room powered by a marantz 2325. I would like to stain them to match the lascalas. I am going to do some experimenting on some scrap pieces of birch plywood. I think miniwax colonial maple will be a close match. A little nervous about staining as they are mint the way they are. Heresys really are the biggest sounding little speaker in the world.
  16. I have transported lascalas in my 95 toyota camry stationwagon. with the back seat folded down they fit perfectly. You need 2 people to lift them in of course. with the horns facing the up (toward the roof). the bottom and top facing the sides of the car there was room to spare. the clearance was close going through the hatch opening but no problem. I cut some corigated cardboard with handle holes for backside of the lascalas to ride on. This made it easy to slide them over the carpet. It also made it easy to pull them out. there was room enough to put 1 inch thick styroboard on both sides of the speakers. plenty of room for styroboard infront, behind and between speakers. Ive done it so many times I have a standard operating procedure. You should be able to fit 4 lascalas in a van. let me say that IMHO it is critical that you fabricate large pieces of cardboard for them to ride on. this eliminates any chance of chipping the veener when sliding them around. makes me feel like going on another road trip.
  17. Confirmed release date of 11/14/2006. archive vol.1 Neil Young with crazy Horse live at The Filmore recorded March 6th and 7th 1970. CD and DVD. features Danny Whitten of the original Crazy Horse. Danny Whitten Died of herion overdose. I heard a bootleg copy of "Down By The River" from "Live At The Filmore" and it is off the chart.
  18. Utica would have been an easy pick up for me but with 3 pairs already I am out of floor space.
  19. I picked up some discarded large 1/4 inch plate glass windows for free. Our local glass shop gave me a 60.00 ball park quote to cut them to size and sand the edges and corners. they cut, sanded, and cleaned pieces for 3 pairs of lascalas, 2 pairs of cornwalls, and 2 pairs of heresy's. 14 pieces in all. cost me 90.00.. as standard operating procedure I add 30% when ever I hear the word ballpark.
  20. The reason I like dogs is a very real one. Primarily it is because dogs are such grateful animals. You rub them behind the ears, and they grovel with gratitude at your feet. You bring them food and they run to you, barking their appreciation and frisking about you with a friendliness that warms even the most forlorn heart. However hungry the dog may be, he takes time out to first look up at you with a misty thank you in his eyes which is unmistakable even before he gulps his food down. When, on a cold winter day, you let him come into the house he repays you his thanks by his tail wagging which seems endless. And when you are gone for awhile, and return home even after a brief absence, he welcomes you with an enthusiasm that makes your return seem to have been a very special favor to him. Dogs are continually conscious of what is and what moves about them. Dogs are loyal and show a loyal gratitude to a master irrespective of the type of master he or she may be. It is because of this that a dog will follow his master, even though such master might be indifferant or even cruel, and he will follow that master into poverty, walk at his heels over the most uncomfortable roads, leave a cozy home for a miserable cabin, and then act all the while as if he were privileged to be accompanying his master. To a dog you are his world, you are everything. And his tail is continually wagging in sonnets of gratitude. His bark, and even his playful growl-yes,even his snapping is usually a song of thanksgiving. And when he cavorts before you, he flings himself about with gestures of worship which no pagen ever accorded to his idol. He loves you for the scraps from the table no matter how meager, and he is likewise appreciative for even an idle stroking of his head which you at times may do in absent-mindedness. and above all he NEVER fails to let you know it.
  21. remove faceplate and spray with windex window cleaner. leave the window cleaner on for 10 minutes and carefully wipe it off with soft white cotton sock. go lightly around silkscreening.
