  1. What is the approximate cost for an ISF calibration?
  2. I rolled into our WalMart at 8am sharp -- only to find out that they sold them at midnight. Store had 11 units all gone right away...
  3. Are we sure of the price at $98? Seems like it was a misprint and the ad should be $198 like they are everywhere else...

    HDMI Issue

No, both should be at 1080i. Could I be running into some cable interference issues (power supplies, too close to other cables, etc)? I got this cable from work and it probably isn't the best quality (brand = cables unlimiteded or something). Thinking of spending the $50 and getting the best quality Blue Jeans Cables has to offer...
  5. Where can I get a rack system like that for my system? I have looked at a Belkin offering, but the unit costs ~$400 for the frame only (without shelves, etc). Crazy prices for a basic frame...

Now I get a signal, but it goes off and on every few minutes...

    HDMI Issue

This weekend I disconnected the components cables from my Directv HR20 HD DVR and connected an HDMI cable. After changing my inputs on the menu of my Pioneer PDP5060 plasma, I keep getting a black screen with no error messages or anything. Why can I not get a picture via HDMI?
  8. Is it worth spending over $200 on this player when I only plan to use the upconverting portion? All my sound will be sent through the reveiver and I will not be listening to any special format cds (SACD, etc)? Or should I just get a Sony (or other $100) upconverting?
  9. Just checking back to see if anyone has comments on whether one should purchase the BlueRay or a simple upconverting player (read: Oppo)...
  10. I'm trying to not start a new post, and therefore repeating the question in this forum... What are the opinions on whether one should purchase the BlueRay or simply get an Oppo upconverting at this point?
  11. So, should a person buy an upconverting dvd player or one of the HD/BlueRay models? Upconverting pros: able to play netflix rentals at home with the upconverting or my laptop when traveling without worrying about format / cost HD/BlueRay pros: picture quality
  12. Have you thought about getting a gerbil to run around a wheel to power your system? Joke -- I am going through amp considerations myself...

  14. Auuuughhh! I can't decide whether to purchase the Oppo upconverting or just go ahead and get the BlueRay S300...
  15. My concern was having a BlueRay player at home and then getting a BlueRay disk in the mail form Netflix -- then not being able to play it on the regular dvd player at a vacation home or on my computer while traveling. With the Oppo it seems that I can still get the 1080i visibility and not have to worry about disk format. As long as the player is hooked to the receiver, it doesn't matter what audio capability the dvd player has, right? It should be limited by the receiver, correct?
  16. I am beginning to believe that I will be in over my head with an amp at this point in time. I love my Ultra IIs and decided to put money into the speakers at the time of purchase two years ago and then upgrade the electronics over time. Now I see the amp as another part of equipment that would last a long time wihtout technology changing, but it may not be needed. I run a Pioneer Elite 54VSX or something receiver and I really l like the sound -- just don't know if it is maximized as I haven't heard many other systems for comparison! I'm new to the game and find myself extremely interested -- just not sure of all the options yet. The room upgrade has been recommended before, and may be worth more thought. However, I am not sure I want to add a bunch of panels to the walls. The decently sized room is a dedicated media room with carpeted ceilings and 9 foot ceilings. Where can I get pictures of rooms that have been treated for accoustics (I have been looking at the "show your home theater thread")? Thanks for the feedback...
  17. Old Timer, Is it correct that you currently run the Sunfire amp with your Panasonic receiver? Just hooked up through the preamp out connection? I am down in Austin and have been looking at closet cooling systems to keep my equipment cooler in the Texas heat!
  18. Am planning to buy the Oppo DV-981HD for my Pioneer 50" plasma -- unless anyone can provide any concerns. So we are thinking the upconverting player is the way to go versus the BlueRay or HD DVD? My main benefit is that I can continue to travel with regular dvds or play them on my computer without having to worry about finding another BlueRay player. Is the sound the same between the new HD players vs the Oppo?
  19. If Klipsch speakers are known for being so "efficient", then why would they need an amp setup? For example, why would they need 200 watts per channel vs 110 watts per channel?
  20. What amps does the fourm recommend? It seems that people talk about Sunfire, Outlaw, Krell, Rotel quite abit. I like the Sunfire and the Outlaw -- the Sunfire for the perceived quality and the Outlaw for the price. Looking for 200 X 7 to power Klipsch THX Ultra IIs...
  21. Every answer leads to another question! Where do I learn about Class A, AB and D amps??? I am mainly interested in movies...
  22. Thanks for putting this into perspective (regarding upgraditis) -- wise advice for someone with only two posts! HOWEVER, it seems like an amp is a part of equipment that could last twenty years without many changes in technology and therefore a good place to stash some cash. Is it possible for me to get a 200 X 7 amp and keep using my Pioneer receiver? Then upgrade the receiver when everything settles down?
