  1. I would definately have to say Lord of the rings, all three of them. The third one has the best fighting scene ever. Coolest movies of the century. I just love that time period and the story is so deep. JRR Tokien had one heck of a mind to create such a story. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! National Treasure, U-571, Master and Commander Far Side of the World, Stargate with kurt russell, Spiderman. These are the ones at the top of my mind that i can think of.
  2. Must not be any lord of the rings fans. O well. It's still my top movie and will be for a long time.
  3. How well will this power my sf-1's. Does it have a sub out or of the sort. What's the year of it. How well would it handle rock music. Not heavy metal, but rock/ punk/rock. Would it sound better than what i have now. I can't obviously hear it with my system to know, and i don't know if there's any return policy. Like any tube amp if i bought through delivery order, it would have to satisfy my needs, and i have no idea if it would until i got it, and then i wouldn't want to be stuck with it if couldn't return it. Does a vintage like this require any upkeep, because i never had a tube amp and i would want it to last for a long time without having to do anything to it. Repairs that is.
  4. Nope, i am not running tube amps, and when, if i ever do, they will be for 2 channel only. I'm using my NAD T753 as the processor with the speakers and dvd player plugged into it.
  5. I don't have the soft clipping feature on if that is what u mean. If not how do u tell it's clipping.
  6. So, BobG, so unplug everything except for the speakers and dvd player from the receiver, and then try it? Boy, now if i think about it, when i first got my second nad t743, and this one still does the same thing, i tried hooking up the T743 with all the speaker wires out away from all the other ones that were crammed behind my equipment, and just hooked up the dvd player, and i remember it still doing the hum or i actually say more like a whining hiss or hum noise from the surrounds. I actually thought that the center did it to, but i eliminated that thought one day when i was troubleshooting. It's just the surrounds now. So i'm pretty sure the only cord that was still near like all the other cables in back of my equipment was the power cord for the dvd player. All of the speaker wires and optical cable, and nad power cable was free from any other cords. To me it sounds more like an issue like u were saying with the preamp/processor/receiver. I hope u can help more. Thanks.
  7. In my opinion, probably one of the best movies out there. All of them in extended addition, u get extra footage and dts encoding. The sound and video is top notch. I just could watch these movies all the time but they're so long. But they are really good, because 4 hrs. seems like nothing to me anymore to watch a movie, especially this type of movie. It's so good.
  8. I don't know if anyone noticed this. Like right after dr. octopus is taking that machine into the river, that big steel cage rolls and almost runs over MJ, and spiderman yells, nooooooooooo, and it like crackles. Is this the recording of the disc? It's the only thing i noticed like this before off the top of my head with dvd's.
  9. puff peice for Matthew McConaughy (sp), he is much better in U-571 Never seen Sahara, but i totally agree with Colin on U-571. That's one of my top movies. I'm trying to think what part he plays. I'm pretty sure the guy that makes the big decision near the middle to end to save themselves with that good plan. It's been a little while since i saw it so excuse my forgetfullness as of now.
  10. I never really tried them anywhere else, i tried them where i have them now, and i think they sound really good. Yeah, u never know, they might sound even better a little different, but i never really thought they ever sounded bad like i first did with the sub. The sub took a while to get sounding right, but the surrounds i didn't mess with, i love my movies, but i'm more into 2 channel now. Yeah, i don't play my xbox much anymore, kind of busy, and any chance of free time i get i play music. So right now i'm saving towards tube or ss integrated amp. 360 looks cool though, but it just would be a waste of money for me. Like i said i barely use my xbox, only when my cousins come to my house.
  11. It's a klipsch rw-8. The picture is kind of dark but the flash didn't brighten up the lower half. I can try again, possibly if i find time. Yeah, it just fits. That rw-8 is what made the space tight. I use to have it on the left side wall for a couple of weeks after i bought it and then finally found the sweet spot for that sub. Thanks for looking. It didn't cost me multi thousands while still not being to cheap. I would say everything costs around $3,500 from the first purchase of the xbox back in christmas of '01 till a month ago with the rotel cd player.
  12. I know this isn't as an extravagant of system that some may have, but i'm proud of it for only being 18, and i had to make it work with my 10.5'x11.5' bedroom. It sounds awesome to by the way.
  13. Does anyone have any information on this model that i could research? I saw one at nosvalves. I just want to learn about it. It seems like a decent price for a tube amp. I guess it's just an amp though. I would have to hook amps up to my nad and use the nad as a preamp. Just didn't know if i could get any input on that amp.
  14. I'm not sure about what is meant by a ground loop. Is the hum going through all the speakers or what? I have posted a problem with my nad t753 putting hum like noises through the surrounds. Maybe this is where i could find out more. It seems like nothing solves my problem, even though i didn't try everything, kind of just gave up, so i don't understand. Maybe this is the problem, i don't know, i would be mad if it was something small that could be easily fixed, unless it's just supposed to be an accepted background noise with the nad's. Maybe u guys can help. I know i didn't give much troubleshooting but i have more i think under my wining noise with nad's forum. Thanks
  15. The only thing that i'm worried about with tube amps that are integrated, i don't think i'll be able to use my subwoofer. Will like the jolida or a new tube amp push enough bass out of my sf-1's by themselves without a sub? I listen to mostly rock, punk rock like 85%, then some cleaner stuff like norah jones and relative singers for the last 15%. Maybe i should stick with ss, unless tubes can really rock. I know the mids and highs are suppose to be much better, but not sure about the mid bass and low bass. Thanks.
  16. I know this sounds low, but probably in the next couple to few months, 500 to 1000 dollars, more 500 to 750. Vintage is ok to i guess, but i kind of like dealing with my local dealer if i had any problems. Thanks.
  17. Wow that's pretty cool to hear that. Ur pretty experienced, so i take that as pretty good advice. Have u personally heard Jolida?
  18. I have no experience with that amp or any tube amp for that matter, but i'll tell u one thing, if u have to shove ur ears into the tweeter to hear the hiss, then that's normal. Any electronics with speakers hooked up, u will hear a slight hiss. If u can't hear it from listening position when it goes from song to song then it's ok. Klipsch are sensitive so they can produce more hiss because of their sensitivity. My speakers make a hiss under stereo. It's fine.
  19. That's good advice. I would have walked out of that dealer immediately. That's ridiculous. I'm guessing that wasn't a private dealer. I will only go to the private dealer that i have talked about in my other posts. That guy would have probably had no problem with what u asked. Private dealers usually equal classy and willing support. I can't say one negative thing about the dealer i go to because they are the best i ever dealt with.
  20. Other wise your thinking is slightly flawed if Jolida has to be shipped also. Yes that's very true. I am not sure if there are jolida dealers around me or not. Thanks for ur input. I'm actually surprised because i know u work on a lot of vintage tube amps. Is there any other new tube amp company around the jolida price range that u also know about that i can look into that are also good? Thanks.
  21. What's ur guys thoughts on this brand? Anyone have any experience with them? Mainly the 102b and 202a i was looking at. I predict u guys will say stuff about vintage, but i just like new. I would only buy vintage if they were available around my area. Thanks.

  23. Thanks for the advice. Yeah i adjust the gain and frequency by ear to, but heck i guess i could even turn the sub up even more, then it's almost too much probably with some material. I should try it though. Well it's on the feet that the subwoofer came attached with and it sits on a carpeted floor. Yep, the rotel rcd-1072 sure made a difference. It's not night and day over my panasonic dvd player, but it is worth it even though $700 was a lot for me. I look forward to having it paired with separates or tube in the future. But right now the bass is definately the biggest difference that i can tell. It makes my panasonic sound muddy. I'm really growing to like it even more i listen to it. I don't know what the full breakin period is, but i have near 60 hrs. into it right now.
  24. Yeah, budget is a big part of it. Do the speakers face the students from the front or from the side. Maybe the commercial series would work well, but if u have a lot of room in the front, i bet klipschhorns would be good. That room looks big though, so maybe the school should get a pro installer to look into it. Hope this helps.
