  1. I've noticed since I upgraded to pushing 7 Channels off my Denon 3806 that it struggles sometimes when there are LFE or other scenes (I watch the current draw go crazy). I've decided that I should take at least the RF7's off the Denon, and possibly the RC7. I've been looking at the following amps on ebay/audiogon/craigslist: Acurus A200x3 Acurus A250 Aragon 8008x3 Rotel RB-1080 Parasound HCA-1500A Parasound HCA-2200 My budget is around 600-800 bucks. Any recommendations on above and if I should go for the better 2channel amp now, and get a monoblock for the center later.
  2. Right - currently the RS-7s are on stands 36" high - equal to ear level. So it seems it would be better to leave the RB-75's at ear level right behind me, and wall mount the RS-7s at 5' on the wall? I've played with the receiver a bit to tweak it, but I'd like to get it perfect :-P
  3. I meant for the rear sides (rs-7s) since they are on stands right now.
  4. Did you leave your bookshelves right behind you? Problem is my room is not very deep, but it's wide. So 2 ft behind me is not going to be possible. Will it be better to wall mount them versus the stands since I can't do that?
  5. I ended up getting some RB-75s from my rear-back channel. It makes a difference in having some good sound right behind me now. When I put on some MHD and switch it to 7.1, wow do they sing. My question is currently I have some RS-7s sitting wider than the RB75s. Should I move them to be more in the middle of the room now (a surround A) type position? I did for fun make the RB-75s my front B, and wow those things are AWESOME for bookshelfs. Too bad theyre just surrounds :-P
  6. Reading this thread makes me feel that I'm not the only one so anal about people leaning / touching stuff that has been specifically aligned :-) My solution is leave some RF-3s next to the 7s to defend the bigger brother.
  7. Has anyone used RB-75 as rear backs and rs-7s are rear surrounds? Found a good pair of RB-75s locally and interested in picking them up.
  8. agreed - bring back the whole 7 line with the new upgrades - maybe DeanG can sell the upgraded x-overs :-)
  9. Now the other question is why no cherry? I guess it's harder to oil speakers up on the wall.
  10. You won't hurt the speakers assuming you are using something designed to not clip / works hard to keep a constant clean power output. As long as you don't hear clipping you should be fine and I doubt you will be able to do that as long as you stay below -0dB (no reason to go louder than that). Loud is a relative word, the Klipsch are very high efficency and can get "loud" with less power. http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html - something to compare SPL loudness Don't be afraid to give them some gas - just be prepared to be blown away literally Maxwell style.
  11. When I was using my RF-3 II's with my 3806 (similar setup) I limited the volume to -0dB. I never seemed to need to take it louder than that for either movies or 2 channel. Another thing is with the auto-EQ is it will mess with how everything is setup and takes some additional tweaking. I'm not sure on the 3808 if there is a stereo menu where you can tweak it a bit. One thing is the highs can get a bit bright (maybe the RF82s they have fixed it) when I cranked it up so I took some out on the high end while the lower end was catching up. With that I could take it up to -0dB on the radio and any static wasn't going to make you deaf but they def made a diff. Another thing which is impt too is the amp may distort if its not behind a line stabilizer / if you have stuff that are sending nosie through the line. I picked up mine as clearance and it helped a lot since my house is older and not sure how the circuits are wired up.
  12. Ok so now that I have my RF-7s, RC-7 - what to do with my leftover RF-3s / RC-3. I was thinking move the RF-3s to surround B and the RC-3 to surround back center. Anyone tried something like this before?
  13. No disagreements there - and FiOS today offers tv service via RF not IP (which allows for multiple HD channels same as many cable-cos). In terms of footprints - Verizon is definitely sticking to major metropolitian areas. I'm not sure if you follow Telco - but the FairPoint / Verizon deal gives Verizon a lot of cash to be able to invest in more fiber. Companies like FairPoint specialize in rural DSL, ADSL2+ has helped them a ton by allowing farther DSL quals. I think the Satellite highspeed option is helping to bring high-speed to ultra rural area. Cable fiber is another option too -most providers are switching to it since with the increase in demand they need bigger pipes to support it. I think in 10 yrs either Wi-Max will become a new defacto standard or Fiber will be pulled to most areas.
  14. The thing about streaming HD is they are doing it now with ATT Lightspeed/U-verse IPTV. People think it is so far away, when in fact it's here just not on the large scale that it would need to be. I am on the waiting list for ATT U-verse when it is available in my area so I can dump my cable co, but the only thing I've read is that you can only watch HD on one tv at a time w U-verse (they provision enuf video bandwidth vs your data bandwidth). Too bad I'm not on the Verizon footprint with FiOS you can get 30/15 which is nicer than what ATT can offer in terms of data but no IPTV / downloading anything wouldn't be so bad.
  15. Check out Amazon - they already have many on 50% off - TF 2 disc I think is 20 bucks now.
  16. The whole room is carpeted - but I have since this played with it some more and turned the gain down / re-eqed it and Transformers is much better :-) Now I gotta redo it for the RF-7s.
  17. I'd have to say that at the end of the day, the HD-DVD player will still play HD-DVDs. Regardless of who won -you own the media and if you got a HD-DVD drive - rip it to your PC and reburn on Blu-Ray as your fair use. I'm not bothered at all since I can get HD movies of ones I want right now for 15 dollars which is competetive to a new DVD. I'll buy a PS3 for BR once the 120 GB comes out. If we took this issue to the computer world people would be upset every week when new hardware / chipsets are released. As many have stated, early adopters take this risk. I can't wait for the new movies actually recorded in HD instead of "upscaled" to HD and burned and watch on BR at home w/o dealing w the trouble of theatres. And general consumers are too cheap to spend the extra bucks anyways - they will spend 2k on a tv but not more than 5 on DVDs or 20 on cords to get the best picture. This is why the cable co's do so well on HD since they "hook" it up "correctly".
  18. Mas, Ok obviously my last post you had to throw in your 2 cents to bash me when I tried to be civil - no where did I mention air or anything else. I agree to disagree and trying to not bash but DISCUSS speaker wire recommendations. And energy is neither created nor destroyed hence in AC why you have a common return line. Hot and common. No where have I said anything you have said about electronics being EM fields - one is created due to the flow of electrons which is the fundamentals of electromagnetism. They flow which is what the return is on the common. Why do you have a ground wire and a grounding rod? I'm well aware of electromigration - and it sucks since one of my old PCs is on its way out. Please list out your additional 3 degrees that you have on me since you threw it in - IEEE in college was what you wanted to make of it - in my case primarily Intel or AMD. I have taken a class in quantum mechanics and solid state (required for my degree). I designed several processors where all this needs to be taken into account - 80 hr projects. Well Ohm's law is broken with electromigration. Speaker wire isn't nanometers thick. My final point - you keep referring to this guys website. Sorry because some guy says it doesn't mean its true. Can I make a website saying mas didn't pay his IEEE dues last year does that make it true. Case in Point.
  19. Mas, No offense - but how many Electronmagnetic classes have you taken and how recently just wondering where you are getting your info from. My degree is in Computer Engineering specializing in chip design. Unless concepts have changed within the 2 years since I graduated and the accredited professors completely full of crap I will have to respectfully agree to disagree. Additionally some website which you sent that claims to know all about electricity I don't hold so much weight for - unless its IEEE or another organization which is recognized in the community. I'm sure I can find IEEE stuff to refute that site. Anyone can make a so-called know all website.
  20. Well I know Amazon is currently selling HD-DVDs at 50% off. I'm suprised they won't firesale it since its just excess stock. My guess is I'll just keep eye out and pick up what I want as they go on sale.
  21. Agreed copper is copper - but the purity can make a difference in terms of corrosion. Copper has gone up in price lately since it is a great conductor which is why I wonder if to help reduce the price increases purity could be dropped - not sure if this is true or not. Magnetic fields? LOL the electrons flow on the surface of the conductor. The EMF is the cause of the flowing current. Right hand rule. I think I'm gonna try the Blue Jeans cable 12gauge - it's not clear and the grey will match the carpet well. And at the end of the day my 200' will cost less than the 10' of Monster ultra magnus super wire.
  22. Yea 10 bil is a bit steep esp when the players still cost so much and profile/ updating issues. I for one will still wait, but for now stock up on cheap HD-DVDs possibly cheaper than DVDs. Just because a format is dead doesn't mean my player won't keep playing the movies I'd actually want to buy.
  23. I think people took the "white van" jokes a bit too seriously. Now if they would post higher end stuff for reasonable prices (they seems to sell laptops) I'd def be game for 5 dollar shipping.
  24. I picked up a Sub-12 for 300 bucks off craigslist. I had previously been considering the Velodyne DD-12 (which if u know is a LOT more expensive). I listed to the RW12d and then the dual subs. I honestly think the port distorts the bass a bit (very boomy) but if you play w the gain and crossover you will be happy. And at this price range it will def shake the room and not bottom out.
  25. Well I think the issue is more than the green is the oxidation which would lead to impurities in the copper making it not as conductive as possible. Agreed they should have taken a VOM and measured the resistance over the course of the 2 wires to see if it makes a difference, but the green insulation isn't as worrysome as on the wire itself (which my monster cable does isn't that sacrilegous to them?). However if the cable has a solid colored insulator you would be unable to tell unless you cut into the wire / redid the ends. But again there is more conductor to transmit the electrical current on (in the 12 gauge) so that will affect the wire (plus heat). I need to crack out my audio engineering book lol.
